http://blogs.palmbeachpost.com/thed...3/fins-ship-samson-satele-to-oakland-raiders/ No terms of the deal have been made public but hopefully we received fair value in return.
Heard a 6th rounder...but just been reading a 6th. I have no link or anything like that. Don't really like the move. Not sure Grove is much of an upgrade. Maybe slight, but not much. Hope I'm wrong.
we used a 2nd rounder on this guy, and, for what he's done, he is surely worth more than a 6th rounder. sure, he may not fit into our system as well, but he can surely be a very good center somewhere else (in this case oakland). we better have gotten more than a 6
Again, I don't know if it's a 6th or not. I just been reading and that's what's been mentioned more than anything. Hope it's not true
Where did you read it? Some sites have decent posters the others especially with the Raiders are garbage.
no problem, I'm not mad at the messenger of course this may add C to our list of draft needs now though. I'm not sure I'm comfortable with only mr. new guy
There would be no point to it. A sixth rounder for Satele? I seriously doubt it. I mean shoot if I can get a Samson Satele for a sixth I sign up anywhere. Damn man at least a third what the heck? If it's a third we can at least go into the year with Berger the backup C, Murphy a backup G and then maybe sign a veteran to be the backup swing tackle.
all I know is that I was assuming Grove would be our starting C this year anyway, so i'm just salivating at the idea that we may have another 2nd or 3rd rounder in this draft for our brain trust to get us another starter
Keep in mind that it will be a high pick in the round it is. The raiders draft 7th in the rounds this year.
sadly i agree with you. no way we'd get a high 2nd for him, when we used a low 2nd in the first place. I would HOPE we get their 3rd.. but you're right, it's more likely we caved for a 4. but since it's a high 4 it should still get us a quality player if that's what it is.
The writing has been on the wall for a while. i knew it was coming...John beck could be next. The thing about it thats interesting to me is that nobody really knows how unjustly high satele was drafted by that Cam Ram..who knows where ireland and parcells had him on their board 2 years ago.Iam hopin for a fifth but whatta ya gonna do. Winning in the NFL for this regime is about being a better and smarter drafting team then the rest, its the reason we dont sell our souls to free agency, eventually their expertise will start to rear its head, and field the team thats championship caliber.
It is for a guy who played like crap last season coming off injury also. So it wouldn't surprise me if it's only a 6th.
I think perhaps were adding picks to trade up at some point in the draft. The Duke at 25 seems like areal possibility now.
Oakland has the following picks: 1st round (7 overall) 2nd round (8 overall) 3rd round (7 overall) 4th round (8 overall) 6th round (8 overall) 7th round (7 overall) I'm guessing it'll be a 4th round pick; I'm hoping it'll be a 3rd round pick however.
And I'll call it right now and say you'll be heavily disappointed. Lorenzo Booker....young, showed promise...traded for a 4th. Satele...young, showed promise but then fully flamed out last season and had surgery. Also traded after management already acquired his replacement. I'm thinking that 6th is probably right on the money.
Can't say it surprises me that he fell out of favor. But I figured that he would be a great depth piece if nothing else. Perhaps the front office knows something that we are not privy too yet.
Booker was not starter material... The Raiders lost their starting center to us, they're much more desperate than the Eagles.
So what if he wasn't a starter? He was still productive at the time of the trade which Satele was clearly not last season and is now injured goods on top of that. Considering it's a center heavy draft there's a chance Satele might not even start there cause I doubt it stops the Raiders from still drafting a center.
I'm not denying that it won't be a 6th round pick, it very well could be. I just don't believe that he would be traded for a 6th round pick.
For a 6th rounder why the **** don't you keep the guy? Stupid move, IMO. Harvey from the Sun-Sentinel is also reporting a "late round pick"
Because Miami wants to run a power run blocking scheme which Satele clearly wasn't good for and couldn't match up against the NT's. That's why.
how to trade with the raiders: me - "hi al, this is gish. do you want Samson Satele?" Al Davis - "who is he?" me - "he will be an allpro in your offense at center, but not in ours." Al Davis - "what do you want?" me - "a first round pick" Al Davis - " isnt that steep for a center?" me - "hes a damn good player, GET OVER IT!!!!" Al Davis - "ok, we'll do it." apparantely the dolphins did not use this method.
Guys, Guys relax.... We did draft Donald Thomas in the 6th round last year, who know who we could get with this pick! I can say that I have a lot of faith in the new FO and after the results we have seen after just one year, more of us should.
I agree. But that doesn't mean other teams should be allowed to rip us off, just because we rule at drafting.
I saw on the Raiders message board that one of the posters there said that he has a source saying that it is a 6th. Just to add to the rumour.
Hm. A sixth is less value than Satle is worth in absolute terms, unless the regime is impatient to get a pick in THIS draft. Personally, I would have waited until training camp when teams realized they needed a center (either because a draft pick did not look ready, or because they had an injury), then trade him for a higher 2010 pick, like a 3rd or 4th.
And we know just how good Thomas is, he played all of a half for us before being lost for the season. Guys before dubbing Thomas an All-Pro, I think his being a starter as a rookie said a lot more and was an indictment about how bad our OLine was more than how good Thomas is/can be. In reality we have no idea how good Thomas is, because we haven't seen him play yet. So take off the orange & aqua glasses, and see that this OLine is still a bigtime work in progress.
