Henne hasn't shown me to be the moping kind. He's said all along that he has to earn the job and he'll still have that opportunity.

Only takes one good injury to Orton to bring Henne back to the limelight with one more chance to prove himself. Outside of that, agree with you.

    This isn't even a response.
It's an aversion to the topic at hand.

Fact is that in both QB's first starting experiences Henne had better success than Orton and you stated that Orton had a good rookie campaign while at the same time willing to throw out Henne altogether who had a better campaign with more pressure on him to perform.

Yes he did because he couldn't beat out Rex Grossman for the staring job.
What you just wrote is not an endorsement for Orton.

Fact remains that the expecattions for Orton's future in the NFL looked worse than Hennes do at the same juncture YET here we are talking about giving up a 2nd round pick for Orton who was given time to develop and throwing away a young prospect that hasn't. It's assinine to me.

Honestly being a purdue fan I'm excited about orton. The guy can toss the ball. Everybody wants al new quarterback I think orton is a good option. At least gives us an option if henne doesn't work out.

I do wonder a little bit if Chad Henne might be part of these discussions. I wouldn't assume so but I mean if the Broncos ditch Orton, the QBs on their roster would be Tim Tebow, Brady Quinn and Adam Weber. Is that really going to be enough insurance in case Tebow isn't all there?

Well we really can't compare 2nd year starts since Orton couldn't beat out Rex friggin Grossman for the job.

Also I would agree that there is some difference in comparing a true rookie versus one that sat a year but the main comparison here is actual starting game time regardless of whether it comes in year 1 or 2. That's an equalizer you can't completely ignore and it makes comparisons of some value.

We keep arguing back and forth. Very simple folks: at this moment in time, Orton is a upgrade over Henne. Not by a huge margin, but enough where it could mean 1 or 2 extra wins and allow this regime to keep their jobs. Nothing else really matters to these guys, they see a way to improve the offense, even if it means giving up Henne, they are going to do it.

    LOL!

Driscoll says that Randy Starks is in the talks for Orton.

What Bull****. they trade Starks and a 3rd for Orton, this franchise is trash.

That is known as "facts" CR, it is exactly what happened in 2005 in Chicago.

Grossman was a #1 pick, did you expect him to sit behind Orton who had 1 season under his belt?

This is bizarre, what happened with Orton in 05 is NOTHING like what the situation is with Henne, you are entitled to your opinion CR, you are not entitled to your own facts.

Orton played his rook season, Henne did not, Orton sat the next 2 yrs behind a #1 pick, Henne did not, Orton showed he had improved, Henne has not.

Having Starks in the deal is ridiculous. Not only is he a better D-lineman than Orton is a QB, but who is the backup NT if Soliai gets hurt or eats himself into oblivion? McDaniel? Good luck with that.

Maybe we'd get another DE or LB in return.

That and we don't know where they'd value Starks. I don't think we'd throw in Starks if we were already giving a 3rd.

Makes sense, there is Tebow's #2 Qb.

Sorry Brady Qunn, the NFL would be sending you a message.

It's not really that difficult to see why. If there've been 100 guys that have started out their careers in dire straits (Chad Henne and Kyle Orton being two of them), and of those guys only (let's say) 10 of them have managed to pull themselves up (Kyle Orton being one of them) while the rest flamed out. Well, in that case you'd have a 90 percent chance that Henne, from where he is right now, flames out. Therefore, you're paying for Kyle Orton because you already know he was part of that unlikely 10 percent that managed to turn things around, rather than take a low odds bet that Chad Henne does it.

Starks is a top five 3-4 DE in this league. the guy is a player. Should have made a pro bowl for us already.

This would piss me off to no end.

    Yep.

Starks is not going anywhere simply because he produces so much at such a low cost, he really is a bargain.

Exactly Ck, why people do not "get" that is beyond me, you acquire Orton because he made it out of the "he sucks" zone and into "competent starter" category, Henne, for better or worse, is in the "he sucks zone" and it is an utter unknown whether he makes it out of there and risking an entire season on that proposition is simply foolhardy and poor GMing.

Then again, maybe he plagiarized someone with genuine insight ... with the McDaniel signing, I wouldn't put it beyond them to include Starks in a deal.

I agree for the most part. I think that Kyle Orton ranked among starters would consistently rank in the #15 to #20 range. The problem is, I don't think that's good enough. It's good enough for now, but you must always keep striving for better than that, and if THIS regime gets that...I certainly don't see them continuing to strive for better. I think they'd be happy with Orton's performance for years, and stop trying to find a quarterback that the franchise can truly be built around.

So if Henne is going back n forth with Orton in TC....will the lockeroom side with Henne? (familiarity, offseason workouts etc) Whatcha guys think? Is there a chance the locker room gets split?

Starks is also a 1-gap defender in a base 2-gap defense. I'm not one for taking rumors from Driscoll or Sideshow Bob or whatever the ****, but if you can get a good value for Starks it's not unreasonable.

This. I agree 100%, even though I'd like to see Henne turn the corner and be good, it's just impossible to not have a solid safety net. Orton is that guy, and in my opinion, if we don't get Orton, then nobody else out there, right now, would be comparable. Orton has the experience, he's only 28, and he doesn't suck.

Good value for Starks is a 2nd round pick on its own. Not trading him plus a 2nd or 3rd rounder for Kyle Freaking Orton
