Meet Kory Sheets
Now I just want to point out that although this guy ran something like a 4.47 at the combine, I still did not see his speed on tape. He is, IMO, "average" when it comes to his speed. Too much stock has been put into the 40 times at the combines, and, albeit, they are somewhat relevant, you really need to see how the guy looks on tape. With that, I thought the guy showed some really nice balance and good body control, a sentiment Sparano also shares....

Reminds me of well, Pat Cobbs of course. I imagine he'll be spending the bye week learning the Wildcat so he can fill in for Pat Cobbs their, and probably end up taking over KR duties as well.

Colmax, play that tape at regular speed and you'll see how fast he is...LOL

But seriously, IMO, I just do not see him being a burner. Is he fast? Sure. But I think most backs in the league have to have some element of speed in order to be productive. I just do not see the speed some on here have seen. I mean, do not get me wrong, the guy is fast (faster than probably any of us), but he has, IMO, average RB speed. -
Also, I think too much stock is put into the 40 time. Yes, he ran the 3rd fastest 40 with a 4.47, but in years past, that time would have been average. And also, do you not think that he practiced the hell out of his initial break to be his most efficient? Your start alone can cost you precious hundredths in the 40. And with places like API, a person can knock off a good third of a second off of their 40. Does that mean that player is that fast? No. It means he practiced enough to have a good 40 time. I looked at the tape and came away with my own conclusion; and that was that this guy lacked great speed. Of course the guy is fast, but that is almost expected given his position. He is not a speedster as some here have concluded. The guy has exceptional balance and body control, but lacks that extra gear. -
I will always remember Emmit Smith being called too slow and too small to play in the NFL.

His coach blackballed him and scared teams...it is amazing how much truth there is to this...there was also someone from the Houston camp in the draft room with ties to Purdue/Tiller who was cautioning prospective teams...and he doesn't even know Sheets...Colmax likes this. -

Well being a Purdue season ticket holder I'll givey you my observations on Sheets. IMO, I have to agree with what the one guy said, he's not a burner of a running back. On that note though, the guy has great hands, takes hits really well and falls forward on tackles. Has good vision finding holes. He was a good running back for Purdue, also his pass protection is pretty good obviously playing for Purdue. I'm not going to tell you he's the next great thing by any means, but the guy is a Solid player in all aspects of the game. Personally meeting him a few times, he seems like a real good guy as well. It was fun to watch him with Purdue, I'm excited to see what he can do with our Fins!
54Fins, the 23rd, Colmax and 1 other person like this. -
I did not know any of his hx with his coach, etc., and did not realize that it affected his draft status. I do know that, to me, he does not blow me away with his speed, but he does have good speed (not blazing). He has superb balance and body control, though. I mean, I'm excited to see this guy play, do not get me wrong.
But what does his combine time have to do with him not getting drafted? You'll have to elaborate on that one for me. -
Remember how most of us were afraid someone would steal Hilliard? That's what we did to the 49ers :hi5:
We have the best RB unit in the league. Nice to not have to replace Cobbs with a scrub. This kid looks versatile, which is what we were losing in PC. -
this is a good team to develop RB's
if he has any talent, he'll blossom here
look for him on the ReturnTeams
the word is he has excellent hands -
We'll know for sure when we see him on the NFL field, but if he does what his film makes me think he'll do, look out, we may have found a gem.
