The Seattle Seahawks have claimed defensive end Clifton Geathers off waivers from the Miami Dolphins.
Rookie tight end Anthony McCoy (knee) has been placed on injured reserve.
Geathers (6-7, 300) was a sixth-round pick (186th overall) in the 2010 NFL Draft by the Cleveland Browns. Claimed off waivers by the Dolphins in Week 1, Geathers was waived and re-signed to Miami's practice squad the following week.
Miami added Geathers to the active roster in Week 7, with the rookie dressing for the team's 23-22 loss to the Pittsburgh Steelers. Geathers was waived on Wednesday when the Dolphins signed nose tackle Chris Baker to the active roster.
Geathers is signed through the 2011 season.
During his 37-game college career at the University of South Carolina, Geathers totaled 72 tackles, with 12 coming behind the line of scrimmage, and 6 quarterback sacks. Geathers did not become a starter until last season, where he posted 41 tackles (8.5 for a loss) and 3.5 sacks.
