Dolphins cornerback Sean Smith slights Braylon Edwards

Miami cornerback Sean Smith tossed another log onto the fire in the Jets-Dolphins never-ending war of words by taking credit for something that, well, never happened in his matchups against Braylon Edwards last season according to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News.
The Dolphins, of course, swept the season series with their AFC East rivals. But it had little to do with Smith’s play against Edwards, who had a pair of productive games against Miami.
``We had a couple of good battles,” Smith told the Miami Herald last week.
I took a quick look at the game tape and here's what happened: Edwards lined up wide left and beat Smith in man-to-man coverage on the play. Smith never turned his head and found the ball. Edwards cradled it with his left hand and fought off Smith and safety Chris Clemons into the endzone.

Well, you know what they say about corners ... you have to have a short memory to play cornerback. :pointlol:

lol, does this really count as "running yout mouth" or "trash talking." The guy just thinks that he won those battles. He acknowledged that there were some "good battles." He paid hommage. What do you want from the guy?

Did Smith not win the war though?
I honestly don't remember how many plays came against Smith.
Was that it? Just the one catch?
IIRC, Edwards got an assist into the endzone on that TD pass, as one of his teammates dove into that 'pile' and got him into the endzone. I might be thinking of another play though.
The Dolphin corners will only get better as they become veterans. They really don't have a choice though. -
I read the title and thought "Oh god someone tell him to shut up." Assuming he was running his mouth and going to give Edwards a reason to show up this year. But thats not that type of statement, and hardly "running his mouth." In his opinion he won the battle. I'm sure Edwards will tell you differently. It's not like he said he shut him down or anything.

No story here.
All it does is counter the "Wildcat is nothing but a gimmick" comments from last year.

the jests lost both games,
Miami swept them
& will do it again this year.
Fire? fire will not be the problem,
they will have to contend

EDIT: Don't do that again. -Muck
**** THE JETS!
That's fine, but you gotta do better than that. With all the crap the Jets players and head coach have said about the Dolphins since October, Sean Smith's comment is nothing.

there will be blood!
I actually remembered Edwards stomping smith... Wait, who got the BS pass interference call?

I've heard worse, but Smith didn't have the greatest season ever either. Not much of a story in any event.
Wasn't that one against Will Allen though?
the PA call? Can't remember
That was Will Allen who got the bad flag.
Braylon's TD in the first game came when he was covered by no one.
The 2nd game I think there was even some debate as to whether or not Sean Smith actually ripped the ball out just before it crossed the goal line.
And Braylon made a nice circus catch against Vontae down to the 1 yard line in the 1st game.

Well, Smith had a good year, better than expected but he does have a little mirage in his memory banks about his games against Edwards... Not that Edwards set the world on fire against Smith, but he got his licks in. As I recall, I'd have called it a draw at best, perhaps a slight edge to Edwards...
As Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News observes, Smith's memory has some gaps. Edwards caught nine passes for 138 yards and two touchdowns in two games against the Dolphins, including a one-handed, 19-yard score that came at Smith's expense.
Who knows exactly how many yards came and when, but just shut up and and play football....how about get your first INT brother....

I don't think Smith really has anything to be crowing about, but he didn't really have an issue with him either.

5 throws, 3 catches, 56 yards, 1 TD, 1 PD. In a two game span, that's not bad. When Braylon went against guys that were not named Sean Smith, it was more like 10 throws, 7 catches, 82 yards, 1 TD, 1 PD. I guess what we don't know is how many routes Braylon ran specifically against Sean Smith.
I'd have to hear Smith's comments to know whether he was really running his mouth unnecessarily. The first thing that he said was that they had some good battles, and to me that implies that Braylon won some and Sean won some. Was the next answer about him winning overall simply an answer to a reporter's followup saying who won overall? Because if so, what do you want the guy to say, that he lost? I'd be more concerned if Sean Smith thought he lost. I wouldn't want him ever facing Braylon again if Sean thought that.

First off this is such a good quote I'm going to quote it again!
Secondly We all know he beat smith on that play. I didn't read anywhere where smith said he had shut Edwards down completely. I just think the kid is reflecting back at some of the individual battles that had.
If we look at the charts that Disgustipate posted from Pro Football Focus you can see that he actually did play pretty well against him.
PS I think you guys may be reading a bit to much into his comments.
I know what your saying bro but there is such hatred between these two teams that one sweeping the other and gaining full bragging rights is pretty special as well.

this has to be one of the dumbest threads ever started here... Smith didn't say anything that was out of order much less a challenge to B Edwards.
god the off season sucks

I'm having trouble giving any attention to the words in your posts for some reason.

Not in my opinion. It's glaringly obvious that the Jets didn't earn their position in the playoffs, however, I'd also say that both SD and Cincinnati handed their game over to the Jets. Cincinnati played like total garbage, and how many field goals did Kaeding miss? In a 3-point game? C'mon... that guy is normally money in the bank.
I think claiming the Jets made an honest-to-goodness run to the AFC Championship game last season... well, let's just say I would disagree.
which they then stole and used the rest of the season

thats not the point though bro, the point is what was the bottom line, they got in, and went to the AFC Championship...I hate couldas and wouldas....you coulda said if it was anybody BUT Peyton Manning, the Jets are in the Super Bowl, as it took the best QB in the game 2.5 qtrs to figure out that defense.......thank GOD that didnt happen...
Ultimately I am glad for this year only not to have been in their position, because of the Marshall deal, but yeah I'd take a trip to the SB anyway I can get it.....would you feel like Miami didnt accomplish a Championship if say the opposing QB goes down on the first drive, and the back up blows it?
Same principle as with the offensive/defensive line. An offensive tackle can shut down a defensive end 49 of 50 plays and the defensive lineman will bark all day about that 1 play. A corner can shut down a WR 9 out of 10 times and the WR will bark all day about the one he caught. That's just how it works.
And? As I said, Sean Smith has never lost to the Jets...ever.
This attempt at creating "bulletin board" material is just like the Jets' regular season record last year...fake.
You'd think getting their *** whopped by a hated division rival, twice in one year, would be enough for the Jets to be motivated. Guess not.
