Talent standpoint?.... Sure... Scheme? probably.... But that's not why vontae was traded. Same reasons we got rid of Marshall,Dansby,etc. Smith might have gotten us a 4th, & we'd be talkin about losing Davis this time next year anyway. I'm glad we took the 2nd and gave the player that isn't a head case a chance to develope and earn a new deal.

 

You do know the story though.... Ss... The star of training camps and preseason, was supposed to take the next step this year. Vontae was presumably a negative influence on him and so on. Any dolphin fan would have hoped for improvement, yet also been disappointed with the end result and hesitant to pay him good #1 cb $. Or as you put it with all your usual creative theatrics..... From love to garbage. Sounds like a typical divorce to me !

 

Think so? A zone team which we are becoming doesn't require top notch starters. It does require players who can be consistent and make plays on the ball. Both VD and SS struggled to show either. Just cause he started before has little bearing on whether he should now. Dansby and Burnett learned that in varying degrees too.

 

Let him crawl back.

And politely decline the requirement for his services.

The market is filled with corners. I hope Ireland knows what he wants and he is waiting because he knows he can.

 

I guess i'm one of the few that actually wants to keep Smith around on this team. He's not a number 1 shutdown corner but he's better than anything we have and he's probably in the top 3 of CB's on the market right now. Making all these great signings does nothing for me if we can't atleast retain "some" of our players that have been here. Smith dug his own hole by running his mouth about money but other than that I don't see a reason why we shouldn't re sign him at a reasonable quote.
