Offensive Philosophy - West Coast Offense
Base offense will feature a 2 TE set.
OL philosophy is a Zone Blocking Scheme with a strong interior and players who can get to the second level.
Versatility was very important.
Depth Chart Offense:
QB
QB1: Russell Wilson - Accurate Qb whose mobility is a great fit for the West Coast Offense.
QB2: Chad Henne - Less mobile and accurate but can manage a game.
In this case, just turn and hand off.
RB
RB1: Trent Richardson - Clear starter.
Good between tackles with good speed. Ace in pass game.
RB2: Shonn Greene - He got 1000 yards for the Jets.
With Mark Sanchez as his QB and 8 man fronts.
RB3: Moreno - Finally came to life late last year.
Talent has always been there.
RB4: Bryce Brown - Change of pace back with bg play ability.
RB5: Marcus Lattimore - Could eventually start but hes getting a redshirt year unless pressed in to duty.
Will eventually be the best back from this draft imo.
WR
WR Z: Mike Wallace - Laurent Robinson - Split Ends who stretch the field.
Smith fits as well.
WR X: Steve Smith - Lestar Jean - Flankers who can make plays short or deep.
Tate fits as well.
Slot: Golden Tate - Ace Sanders - Short area speed was a priority here.
Can use Jean or Robinson's height since Robinson excelled there with Dallas in 2011.
OL
LT: Roger Saffold - Kyle Long - Light but agile.
Saffold has done well 2 of the last 3 years.
Long is insurance and a great LT prospect. Long can play guard as well.
LG: Matt Slauson - Paul McQuistan - Joe Berger - Slauson is one of the more underrated guards around.
McQuistan started for Seattle in 2011.
C:
Max Unger - Joe Berger - Unger is elite but dominant as a run blocker.
Berger is there because he can play all 3 interior OL positions.
RG: John Moffitt - Joe Berger - Paul McQuistan - Osemele - Lots of depth and good run blockers.
Osemele played well there in 2012....
RT: Kelechi Osemele - Sean Locklear - But Osemele was even better in the playoffs as a RT.
Locklear is insurance in case Osemele has to be kicked inside to RG.
Defense depth charts...Primary defense is a 3-3-5 but we will feature 3-4 and 4-3 looks as well because we have the personnel to do so and to keep QB's guessing.
Smart football players were a priority.
In the 3-3-5 we will use press man coverage with over the top safety help (cover 2 press man).
3-3-5 Base Defense:
Closed End (LDE) - Lines up over outside shoulder of RG as a 3 technique - Justin Smith/Justin Bannan - Powerful DE played closed end with SF and will have similar responsibility here
Nose Tackle - Lines up in 0 technique directly over C - Terrence Cody/Abrayo Franklin/Torell Troup - All these player anchor well and while they wont get a lot of QB pressure they are stout vs the run and have played this spot before.
Open End (RDE) - Lines up in 3 technique with the idea to have him matched up on the LG - Derrick Morgan/Austen Lane - Morgan had a tremendous sophomore season after a poor rookie year.
Lane can sub in.
Leo LB (LOLB) - Bruce Irvin/Akeem Ayers - Irvin is an absolute beast as a rusher and his speed is what makes this hybrid D possible.
Ayers shifts from Joker LB when Irvin is rested.
MLB - Bobby Wagner/Leroy Hill/Manti Te'o - This position needs a player that can run, call out assignments and cover.
Joker LB (ROLB) - Akeem Ayers/Manti Te'o - Ayers had a great year last year in this role for Tennesee.
The only difference was that it came out of a 4-3 front.
Te'o is a downhill player so he can also assume this role.
CB1 - Richard Sherman - Best CB last year.
PFF's best rating score wise since Revis in 2010.
CB2 - Champ Bailey - Older but had a solid year last year matching up vs teams #1's.
Slot - Brandon Boykin - 2nd year player with a high upside
Dime - Richard Marshall - Does his best work inside and now he will stay there.
Will play FS in case of injury
5th CB - Logan Ryan/Jerron Johnson - 2 developmental guys with nice upsides.
FS - Earl Thomas - One of the games best safeties will lend over the top help on Bailey's side at all times.
SS - Kerry Rhodes - Solid player who causes turnovers.
Better in the box safety at this point.
3-4 Defense - Traditional 3-4 base D look with the same coverage techniques.
For that reason I'm only listing the front 7 here.
Closed End (LDE) - Lines up on the outside shoulder of RG as a 3 technique - Justin Smith/Justin Bannan - Powerful DE played closed end with SF and will have similar responsibility here
Nose Tackle - Lines up in 0 technique directly over C - Terrence Cody/Abrayo Franklin/Torell Troup - All these player anchor well and while they wont get a lot of QB pressure they are stout vs the run and have played this spot before.
Open End (RDE) - Lines up in 3 technique with the idea to have him matched up on the LG - Derrick Morgan/Austen Lane - Morgan had a tremendous sophomore season after a poor rookie year.
Lane can sub in.
LOLB - Bruce Irvin/Keith Rivers - Again, just get after the QB and play downhill.
LILB - Bobby Wagner/ Thomas Davis - Aligning him here behind a 3 technique in Smith will keep linemen off him. Guard on Smith, RT on Irvin, C on RILB allows Wagner/Davis to run free and make plays.
RILB - Manti Te'o/Keith Brooking - Defeat the C and play as kind of a robber in the passing game.
Can also be used as a shadow in pass D.
ROLB - Akeem Ayers/Keith Rivers - 7 sacks/4 hits/10 hurries in just 133 pass rushing snaps last year for Tennessee.
Had 45 stops so he can definitely make plays at or around the LOS.
4-3 Defensive Alignment - Like 3-4, Im only listing the front 7 since the secondary coverages will remain the same.
Will primarily use this in instances where we want to pressure the QB.
Isolating Justin Smith inside is a big part of why this works as we like him in the "Justin Tuck role" staying in a 3 technique and isolated on a guard.
LDE - Bruce Irvin/Austen Lane
LDT - Justin Smith - Under Tackle, 3 technique
RDT - Terrence Cody/Abrayo Franklin - Over Tackle, 1 technique
RDE - Derrick Morgan/Austen Lane
WOLB - Thomas Davis/Leroy Hill - Cover flats
MLB - Bobby Wagner/Manti Te'o
SOLB - Akeem Ayers/Keith Rivers - Cover flats, will blitz.
Special Teams
K: Rian Lindell
P: Mike Scifres
LOS: Max Unger
KR: Ace Sanders/Bryce Brown
PR: Ace Sanders/Bryce Brown
