Seriously all this for a guy who has thrown two NFL passes? And he was a marginal starter at best while at Clemson...

    Per Rotoworld:
Seahawks acquired QB Charlie Whitehurst from the Chargers in exchange for a swap of 2010 swap of second-round picks and a third-round pick in 2011.
The move will pay off for Seattle if Whitehurst becomes Matt Hasselbeck's eventual successor, but the Bolts got quite a haul. They move up 20 spots in round two and get a premium 2011 pick for a player with two pass attempts in four seasons, who couldn't beat out Billy Volek. Whitehurst, 27, posted an underwhelming 49:46 TD-to-INT ratio and 59.7 completion rate as a four-year starter at Clemson in the early- to mid-2000s. He has ideal size (6'4/227), good tools and athleticism, and outplayed Jay Cutler at the 2006 Senior Bowl. Pete Carroll and GM John Schneider have been watching a lot of old tape.

Seahawks signed QB Charlie Whitehurst to a two-year contract.
The contract is believed to be worth $5M annually. The shortness of the deal, combined with the compensation it took to get Whitehurst, indicates that he has a chance to play right away. The Seahawks will want to see what they have sooner than later. Matt Hasselbeck, in a contract year going on age 35, is clearly on the hot seat and could be pulled early in the season if he isn't exceptional out of the gate. Whitehurst is worth keeping close tabs on in dynasty leagues.

This ontop of Jake Delhomme signing for 7 million per, and Derek Anderson signing for 2yrs and 8 million or so..the league is hungry for Qb's.

And there must be a really poor opinion of Brady Quinn circulating around NFL front offices? The Brownies virtually gave him away while Whitehurst is worth a 20 position pick swap plus a #3 pick.

Also it says a lot about the QB's in the draft after Claussen and Bradford. Im not surprised its only a two year extension...just in time for Carroll to possibly draft Matt Barkley when he completes his junior year. Maybe he knows something... :shifty:

Have to wonder about Thigpen's trade value as this year I doubt we could have gotten him for a 5th rd pick, Qb's are just to expensive this offseason.

This is almost as bad as trading a number two for AJ Feely.

You do have to wonder why you'd pay so much when you're basically bidding against yourself for a 3rd string Qb. I liked Whitehurst coming out of college but I haven't seen him play in years, who knows maybe they have some insight to the guy and know something we don't.

Whitehurst is held in very high regard by alot of teams...not justifying the amount given up but I knew it wasnt going to be peanuts
