For fun, just a post so that we can all throw darts at one another -- saw this article at SEC Chatter on al.com which references a Mark Bradley (from the Atlanta Journal Constitution) article, though it doesn't share its conclusions: http://blog.al.com/chatter/2008/08/who_has_most_obnoxious_fans.html Obviously, every team has their share of good and bad fans -- except Auburn, of course, which only has the best of the best , so again, like I said, all in good fun! This article just revolves around the SEC, and I can leave it at that, but if you want to go more national, that's fine, too. Who has the most obnoxious fans? Or, if you'd rather, share some of the cheers, fight songs, incidents, etc. that you find/found obnoxious, that'd be fine, too. {Example: I know Alabama fans hated when Peyton Manning went and led "Rocky Top" after Tennesse beat Bama... that would be considered: obnoxious.} Personally, from a national standpoint, the FSU Tomahawk Chop (also when I hear the ATL Braves use it) -- [no offense because some of my best friends are FSUers ] -- drives me up the wall. UGGGGGGGGGGGGH!!!!!!!!!!!! In the SEC, who has the worst fans? The Gators. Of course. Ducking. JUST KIDDING GATOR FANS!!!! maybe
Yeah, I'm going w/ Alabama or MSU. Honestly, I don't see UF as any worse than Tenn or your beloved Aub. Finrunner. Meatheads are everywhere...it's the quality and numerosity(?) of those 'select few' that separates those schools from the rest.
I don't think anyone can make an honest opinion on this until they have lived in a certain city for awhile. I have only lived in Knoxville and Vols fans are horrible. They are dumb and ignorant. However I don't know if they are the worst
LSU and UGA fans are pretty bad. They love making fun of Floridians and their Jean shorts. I was up in Gainesville for the homecoming game a couple years ago against LSU and I was walking around the UF campus before the game (Just left College Gameday) then an LSU fan started mouthing off and we went back and forth, he was drunk already, His friends around him started laughing at him as I kept hitting him with well rounded insults. He had no idea what to say but I guess he thought he was insulting me as I walked away by saying "Nice shorts" (I was wearing typical cargo Khaki Shorts...not jean shorts...I hate Jean shorts). I laughed and said, "Nice flannel, Cable Guy! Git-R-done!"
Yeah, I was kidding about the Gators because I know we have so many on the site. Living in Alabama as an Auburn fan, I think you can probably guess which fans I think are the worst. And I'd have to say the Rammer Jammer cheer bothers me just about as much or more than anything else in college football.
A lot of it has to do with which teams are playing. A heated rivalry is always going to bring out the "best" in people then throw in some tailgate beverages and the mouths start to open. GT and Clemson fans are great while VT is a cesspool of profanities and people wanting to start fights. FSU we had beer cans thrown at us on the walk in. All I ask is throw unopened ones so I can at least use them. OU last year the fans were great but I bet Texas fans don't feel the same way about them.
Living here in Jacksonville, all I deal with is Gator fans. They're easily the most annoying of all fans. While the girls are cute, the guys are usually d-bags.
Please you live in Ohio and don't like Ohio St of course their going to be bad. Every PROGRAM has obnoxious fans. You can't tell me otherwise.
They could be like michigan fans (who for the most part I have no problem with), but if Michigan did that too, I would find them as obnoxious as hell.
LSU has, by far, the most obnoxious fans in the SEC. I will never attend a game at LSU simply because of their fans. A close battle for second is between Alabama fans and Ole Miss fans. Ole Miss fans believe they are entitled to everything, and Alabama fans cannot live in the present.
Georgia fans have always had a bad reputation among South Carolina and Clemson fans here in my state, but i have never experienced it myself. i have heard several people say they have been spit on at games by UGA fans just for wearing Gamecock colors in Sanford Stadium. but that is better than what i have heard about LSU fans. Gamecock athletes have reported having urine poured on them upon coming out of the tunnel at games at LSU. if that is true, that pretty much seals the deal for me.
maybe this is just my experience, but it seems to me that the most obnoxious fans of just about any university are the ones that never went to the school they supposedly love so much!!!
Sorry man, that game was ****ed and everybody knows it. Convict Maurice Clarett had no business running into the endzone and ending his football career like that. We had that game, but it's done with now. A forgotten chapter in our never ending dynasty, to be continued in the next season.
I'm going to try and compose myself in a resonable manner. Like Ive told other U fans there could have been 3 ways it could have been called and all would have resulted in a FIRST DOWN. You should be blaming your team which was basically a NFL roster for CHOKING.
How did I know this thread would morph into a Buckeye bashing festival despite the fact that they have nothing to do with the SEC? THE Ohio State University is not a thing of the fans. The players adopted that one. It's no different than THE U. There is nothing wrong with it. It's no different than a boxer being introduced as - "The one, the only ..... {whatever his name is}". Get off it. In the SEC....hmmm. Living in central florida its tempting to says UF is the worst. But thats just because I had to watch them beat OSU twice in one season in the big one. Living near their headquarters only made things worse. But I'm gonna say Alabama. From the ones I've met, they are pretty stupid when it comes to football. Ignorance would be a good term, but that would imply that they are totally secluded from common knowledge. They are just plain idiotic. Being that Auburn is their #1 rival, I would expect them to have equally horrific fans. But quite the contrary. Auburn has a solid fan base, and is an amazing example of what a college town truly is. If anyone ever has the chance, I suggest you go check out Auburn, AL. The Tiger paws on the roads are totally sick. Also, check out a restaurant named Good Ol' Boys. You wont find better steak, catfish or southern cookin. Awesome town, and awesome fans. P.S. WAR EAGLE!!!!
Speaking of choking, are you going to go to the National Championship game again this year to lose again?
Thats fine I could careless if we lose in the national title game. Against Florida they flat outplayed Ohio St, We were favored so yeah we choked. Last year sorry but we didn't choke, we weren't the favorite going in. Hell I was hoping we could make Rose bowl that year but guess what WVU and OU both choked in their conference title game and allowed the Buckeyes in. I rather get there than play in the Minke Car bowl or some cheesey bowl like that.
EXACTLY!!! Well almost. You know, Auburn... where every single girl is otherworldly beautiful and has just a tinge of a slight, southern drawl. The streets, if not covered in orange and blue, are paved with bricks of gold. And Toomer's Corner always looks from afar like its draped in snow. It is... a slice of heaven. WAR EAGLE back atcha!!!
to follow up on my statement about LSU fans; i had a fantasy draft yesterday with a guy who has been to 3 games at LSU as an opposing fan, and the topic of obnoxious fans came up. he stated that he has never had a bad experience down there, and really looks forward to going back, they treated him just fine.
WTF Do we have a red flag icon? You live in Knoxville Tennessee and a Gator fan? Please tell me that I have lost the ability to read.
Born in Tampa and I moved to Tennessee right before I started High School. I lived up there for about 8 yrs But always a die hard Gators fan.
One thing that sort of makes up for Tennessee fans -- usually -- are UT cheerleaders. Year after year. Do they just regurgitate the same girls or what? Here in Huntsville, our sports radio is halfway between B-ham and Nashville. Nashville, it seems, has more Vols fans than Commodore fans. Anyway, in my experience, fwiw, Tennessee fans are a notch above Bama fans on the respectability-o-meter. Of course, I am biased, but I am being honest as I know how. Now, if one is a Florida Gator fan and sees Vols fans every year, it may be like being an AU fan and seeing and hearing Bama fans each year (except with Auburn and Bama, it's a 365 day a year spat, sometimes 366). Less is more and more is less type o' deals, there.
