I have a job interview at 1:00 pm today. The job I am currently doing has become a real nightmare. To date, these guys owe me over 8k in back commissions and rebates and to quote them they 'don't have to money at the moment' to pay me. I'm not alone in the situation, there are a total of 5 of us that are feeling the burn right now and we are a very unhappy lot on the verge of a mutiny. So I've been actively job hunting, and have a shot at a decent job that could turn into a good one. If this works out today could very well be the last day they see me until I appear in small claims court with them.
Nothing but good thoughts coming your way brother. If/When you get this new job, are still gonna see you on here 24/7....;ust askin
Who knows? I hope I can still keep in touch during the day. It will depend on my intelligence level vs the intelligence level of the IT guy there.
Good luck Ope, you're one of the best people on here so here's to some of that good karma coming back your way.
Aw shucks. Thanks. I need some good karma right about now. This job has got me so pissed off I end up with a nosebleed once a week from my blood pressure rocketing.
These clowns have no idea how bad of a cake I would make if they don't pony up my $$$. I'm the unofficial cakemaker here and no-one else here has a clue about how much sugar and flour goes into a cake and bad it would taste if I made it wrong. Not that I'd ever even think about that, mind you. Edit: Good lookin' out Marty.
Prayers and good luck wishes coming to you from the family Jimmy. Hope you did well. Sorry I missed this thread earlier.
Thanks for the well wishes and good vibes and prayers. The initial interview was very successful IMO. The guy that interviewed me and I hit it off as soon as I saw his NY Giants helmet on his desk. I commended him on being a Giants fan as opposed to a Jets fan and he started to laugh. Then he asked me what I would have said had the helmet been a Jets one. I told him "Nothing, I would have just turned around and left." In any case, the interview was an hour+ of just jawing back and forth, this is a big insurance broker company, one of the top 5 in the State. I admitted to having no insurance background whatsoever, but that didn't seem to matter to him. He said that I seem smart enough to learn the product, charismatic enough to sell it, and he told me he could see I have the 'killer instinct' to close the deals. After 40 minutes or so he brought the owner of the company in and we all talked some more. I would need to draw a salary for a year as an apprentice before I could draw commission. Or I could take an intense 5 week, 200 hour course to get my certification right off the bat and jump in with both feet. I honestly don't think I could afford 5 weeks of no paycheck (in fact I know I can't) so it looks like I'll have to take the first approach, but he stated that there are bonuses to be had in addition to the salary. To make a long story short, they told me to mull it over during the weekend, and come up with a salary that I could live off of until I am certified, then contact them Monday and we'll see what program they have that will fit my needs. I will sleep well tonight and keep you folks posted on what transpires. Thanks all Jimmy.
1.5 million a year.......and an extra 40k because you know you will have to bite your tounge with the "eli manning is a queer" jokes the entire year....im sure he'll bite thanks for the update jimmy sincerly, chris
Don't mention it, I'm just trying to get in your pants (with flattery). Seriously though and all joking aside, congrats on the good interview.
watch out bro. it usually takes a year or two selling insurance before you really start making money. what kind of insurance is it?
Yeah they told me that it takes a while to build up a fat income. It's homeowners and auto insurance. They claim they can't be beat because they rep all the major carriers, I just need to know where to go for each situation. The first year I expect to make a 'living' the second year I should pull commissions just fine (I can sell ****) but the third year and beyond is when you start making decent $$ on renewals as well as new policies. It's a process, but I want to find a company that I can grow with and see myself working for in 10 years +, these guys gave me a good feeling.
honestly....i have a fantastic personality.....and i sell like a mofo....i have that "killer instinct" as well.....how do i get into this ****? i can work phones, work deals.....iam blowing up numbers at suntrust right now....but their commission is bull****.....i just opened a 300k money market account and got 15 bucks......thats bull****....i can pull better....any advice? sorry for hacking opie
Opie, On the one day you sent out a special request, I was out of pocket with the computer. I sure hope everything worked out well. I have faith in you selling yourself first. You'll get the job you are looking for. Sounds like they really liked you. Anytime they introduce you to the boss is a good sign. When I interviewed here at UCF, they were asking me if I could wait for a few minutes so I could meet the boss. Before I met him, they were ntroducing me to all the other employees there and saying "If you accept this, this would be your office". I knew I was in. I'm confident you're in if you want to be. Continued luck my friend. And get those other hacks to pay you.
I too was away yesterday but that does not diminsh my prayers and support for your cause! Sounds like a solid oppurtunity. Best wishes to you and the gift of discernment as you make up your mind.
Thanks everyone. I slept like a baby last night, felt really good for the first time in a long time. I'm crunching numbers today to come up with a livable salary to present to them next week. My wife and I are both excited, I've been a bit of a 'bear' lately moodwise and she's tickled to see me relaxed and confident again.
Way late to this thread but glad to hear all is going well so far anytime you need prayers of any kind you know you've got some of mine. You know how I feel about your (current/old) job. Time to GTFO of there.
Just got off the phone with these guys and told them that I put some numbers together. They are going to set up some time tomorrow to get together and we'll see if they afford me for a year till I get certified. God I hope so.
Thats great news opie, hope they can work it so they can take you on - its a sh*tty time for anyone to be looking for work so fingers crossed for you bro
Yeah it is. I've been hunting for months and this is the first thing that feels like it could be the right move.
Looks like the meeting is postponed until tomorrow. What a crappy morning at the job today. I am currently owed approx 8k in commissions and rebate money, we were told, as a team this morning, that we will no longer be part of the rebate program. On top of that we will no longer draw our measly $400/week that we've gotten from the get-go (for those of you who don't know commissions and draws, a draw is good faith money that you receive weekly and it is deducted from the money you earn when you get your commission check) now this isn't the end of the world, but to do this going into the slowest time of the year is a real kick in the nuts, we all easily make the draw every week, but there are slow times where you may not make it for a short period of time and this is that time of the year! Now to top off the whole **** sundae, one of the guys here, a real sleazy salesman, has been taken off the books and will be operating a used equipment warehouse right next door! This guy has had several run ins with me, as well as the other salesmen from the shop and we are all furious that he is being set up as a competitor right next door. He is very underhanded with his selling techniques, I've seen him move equipment I wouldn't sell to a Jets fan, and he would have no qualms about undercutting our price to steal a sale. We are supposed to have some sort of symbiotic relationship where we can buy used equipment from him and he'll run all the new stuff through us, but I would bet my life that this will not be the case. Sorry for the rant and rave, just had to spew a little frustration out. Peace everyone, I hope I'll be posting some excellent news tomorrow. Jimmy.
No, he didn't. He's going to work 'with' us according to the owners, and not undercut us or go behind our backs. Riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight. He's already undercut his fellow salesmen working in the same building, I cannot imagine how much of a scumbag he's going to be on his own.
