According to Casas9425 over on finheaven,
Adam Shefter just texted to Sid Rosenberg that Ross is currently meeting with Sparano, will attend the Orange Bowl tonight, and sleep on his decision.
I guess this is what Sid Rosenberg said...so...who knows...

He needs to "sleep on it?"
An entire season watching this assclown and his rodeo bull-fluffer Henning ruin the season isn't enough?MikeHoncho, Ronnie Bass and DolfanJake like this. -
IMO (and it is just that) Tony is gone. If he was going to keep him he would just come out and say it. BTW, maybe Ross is just buying time until he hears back from his feelers with regards to the guy he wants to coach the Fins?

I'm hoping (with very little optimism) that he's waiting until the Orange Bowl is over so he can announce the hiring of Jim Harbaugh.

Henning is already gone. But he's got a lot of things to weigh than just firing these guys. He's got to consider what they've told him, their plan for the future, financial ramifications, who stays, who goes, who wants out, etc. I'm under the assumption (my own, no one else's) that he's got his people working on a lot of things regarding this situation (who's available, who he's made contact with, etc.). I can't imagine he'll make a move without reasonable assurance from one or more candidates that they're highly interested.
He's less knowledgeable about the game than a lot of us here. So this will be doubly hard for him.Coral Reefer, SICK, first&goal and 2 others like this. -

We're not even on that guy's radar unfortunately.DolfanJake and Ducken like this. -
Gruden please. He'd come in with an awesome D and great DC, and this team could feed off his energy level. Bringing an offensive mind in would complement Nolan's attacking defense IMO. We need to put our d in a position to where they CAN attack more often, which requires our offense to put up points earlier, quicker, and with a greater threat of doing so throughout the game. Wake couldve had 20 sacks this year if this had happened.

Well, I'm glad Ross is being deliberate over this decision.

Great offensive mind, paired with great defensive mind. We've never tried that before...

Sparano got us to an 11-5 season, he's not a great HC, but he's not freaking Cam Cameron guys. The guy has passion, loves the organization, and has shown he's trying to fix his flaws. The big issues have been offense, and the OC is already gone.
Anyone who thinks firing Sparano and hiring joe blow off the street will fix our ills is just being knee jerk from the Patriots loss.mullingan, slickj101, Rocky Raccoon and 2 others like this. -
not to be a smart a$$ but I am pretty sure you (I should say we) have no idea what is on Jim's radar. -
I could see Sparano being fired and Ireland put in charge of finding a new HC, I could see Ross letting Sparano and Ireland finish out their contracts then deciding, which imho is what he should do.smahtaz likes this. -

IMO our current, boring, conservative offensive philosophy has prevented our defense from being able to smack offenses in the mouth like I feel we're capable of.

What you need is a good head coach, and I'm not sure Gruden is that. I'm on board with replacing Sparano with certain guys, but I couldn't support replacing Sparano with Gruden. The guy seems like a glorified OC, not a head coach. -
Edit: Let me add, that after countless failed regimes and over 15 starting QB's, it is time for THE BOLDEST POSSIBLE MOVE TO LAND THE RIGHT GUY. So here's to hoping Ross see's the same things we do and does whatever it takes to make the bold, brash, and well thought out steps to get this team over the hump at the QB position. A QB friendly coach, is a start in the right direction. -

Wonder if Ross approaches Harbaugh personally at the OB and offers him a blank check? JH turns Ross down, Sparano is announced as returning? -
Given all this, I think it makes sense to take some time before making a decision. What I find interesting is the whole Orange Bowl thing and the fact that Ireland was at Stanford's practice. It wouldn't surprise me at all if there was a lot of wooing of Jim Harbaugh going on in Miami over the last few days and heading into tomorrow.
Then, there's also the Jeff Fisher situation, which we are probably monitoring closely. -

I have my concerns about Gruden.
Things got progressively worse behind the scenes in Tampa. There were coaches and players who left and vowed publicly never to come back. And they had trouble attracting free agents as time passed because players talk. He just rubbed people raw.
And despite his reputation, his offenses in Tampa weren't that good. Nothing like the juggernauts he ran in Oakland with Rich Gannon. Never better than 18th in points scored in Tampa. They weren't that great in yards either. Guys like Jeff Garcia complained publicly about the offense being unnecessarily complex and it didn't take enough shots down the field. They also complained -- anonymously -- that Gruden would 'highlight' certain guys on gameday at the expense of others.
And Gruden never had success with a young quarterback. Just didn't deal with them. It was always a veteran. Old veterans. Rich Gannon, Brad Johnson, Brian Griese, Jeff Garcia, traded for Jake Plummer despite retirement. He couldn't do anything with Bruce Gradkowski, whose turned out to be a pretty decent player in Oakland. The way he treated Chris Simms after Simms almost died and lost his spleen in that 2006 game, Simms says he'll never forgive Gruden for it.
I love the guy on TV. But it didn't end very well in Tampa.
OT: For those that worry about his personnel decisions, that wasn't his deal. Bruce Allen was the GM in Tampa. He had final say over the roster, not Gruden.
One plus for Gruden is that, indeed, he's going to leave a good defense alone. He's totally offense.Stringer Bell and MarinePhinFan like this. -

And to add BTW, not much is being mentioned about Harbaugh being the youngest and freshest of these so called candidates, which is a HUGE plus IMO. God forbid if he works out and sticks around for 10-15 years. Wouldn't it be nice to have some stability again? Man I hope Ross knows what he is doing on this one. -
