From the Dallas game: Passing snaps in shotgun: 9 Net Yards gained (including sacks): 2 yards Passing snaps under center: 33 Net Yards gained (including sacks): 263 yards Yards per passing snap in shotgun: 0.22 Yards per passing snap under center: 7.97 All 9 of the snaps in shotgun were in the first half. In the second half, the net yards gained per passing snap was 10.21. Why were we so bad out of shotgun? Was it a smart adjustment at halftime to abandon it completely?
With the difficulty Moore was having handling the shotgun snaps they decided to scrap it. However, the damage was already done.
The interior pass blocking is stronger than that the exterior as well. More of an arc gives pass rushers far too much room to hammer Matt Moore.
But it is not why we lost the game. We had the opportunity but just couldn't finish it. We are who we thought we are.
Moore is also a better quarterback out of standard I formation. That was a known fact even before the game, not sure why Miami wanted to make it easier for Ware and Spencer to get to Moore. But hey it's Tony Sparano, he's a moron.
Moore could have handled the snap that was fumbled before the half but it was a bad snap. Pouncy has to work on his shotgun snaps and it was a knock on him at the draft. Regardless it wasn't the fumble, bad snaps or missed fieldgoal that lost the game. It was the lack of getting 7 in the redzone.
As I recall (and I'd have to look it up), one of the criticisms of Mike Pouncey was his ability to snap the ball out of the shotgun. He apparently was struggling with some of the snaps, resulting in Dallas' first touchdown so the call to abandon the shotgun was probably a good call.
