Anyone watching? It was terrific. And man, LeBatard nails it in the end on his firing: "I think he found it hurtful. I think that he looked around and felt that there wasn't enough appreciation for how hard it was to win in that league, and how good he was at his job, and in retrospect, he's right. The Dolphins have never been as good as they were under Don Shula."
Sort of, until the wheels fell off of the Wanny train, we were as good as we once were under Shula in the regular season anyway.
Csonka's speech at Shula's house at the end gave me goosebumps and a lump in my throat. When he said something along the lines of honoring those who weren't there anymore, and that by the time the next reunion is held some of those in attendance might not be there....but the record will always be there. **** the haters who call them "bitter old men." With the uttering of that one sentence, I've never been more proud of being a Dolphin fan. Class act all the way Zonk.
Bingo. Why younger Dolfans choose to hate on the perfect season is beyond me. Sure I wasn't alive when it happened. I also wasn't alive when we won World War II but I'm pretty ****ing glad that happened too.
It's because for some reason, these younger "dolfans" don't embrace their own history, and love it like most teams fans do. It's why so many of them abandon the team when its going through tough times - they have little to no sense of loyalty. I *****, complain and downright loathe some of the things the team does, but I feel I have that right because I've shown my loyalty and love for the Dolphins logo time and again. I've sweated through 95ยบ Sept Sunday at 1 games, I've sat through a tropical storm just to watch a training camp practice one day - I've put my money where my heart lies in 32 years of season tickets (1978-2010) and spent well over $150,000, then probably another $ 50,000 on memoriabilia, t-shirts, caps, etc. I wish the carpet bagger fans would get a sense of our history and finally embrace it.
