What is happening with todays youth? They need safe spaces when they don't get an outcome they like. They cry about how everything isn't fair. And then Mrs. Biles. She can't handle "the pressure". You've been to the Olympics before. You knew what it was going to be like. But you screwed your team and left when the going got tough.

She quite on her team at the most crucial time. Walked out on them when they needed her most. You disgraced yourself, your team and your country.

I don't see it the same way. The judges decided that since Biles was so far ahead of others, they stopped giving her extra points for degree of difficulty and technicality so other athletes wouldn't attempt the stuff she does. So the stuff she's prepared to do...the stuff nobody else in the world can do...is now worth less than a standard, much easier routine. They literally penalized her for being the best in the world.

Why should Biles have to perform much harder tricks to get awarded the same points as other athletes? So unless she's literally perfect on the hardest tricks in the world, she loses to much easier stuff.

It's completely rigged against her and USA was given zero notice that they were changing the grading scale. She could have been perfecting the easier tricks for the last four years instead of pushing herself to new heights...I honestly think the entire USA gymnastics should have walked away after the Olympics cheated them. The new scoring system should have been introduced years ago...not the day of competition.

Imagine that in football- they suddenly make a rule that any TD on a pass of over 50 yards only counts for 4 points instead of 6. But in this situation, there's only one QB throwing bombs...and he's now the least valuable player on the team since that's what he specializes in. It is complete BS.

She didn't say any of that. She just quit because her "headspace isn't right".

It's like Tiger quitting on the back 9 of the Masters because he couldn't deal with the pressure. Or Tom Brady not coming out for the 2nd half of the Superbowl because it was just too hard.

And now they are praising her for it and falling down at her feet for quitting on her teammates and herself.

She was sexually assaulted for her sport. She trained 6 days a week for years, spent the majority of her life doing it. Then they changed the rules as detailed above. She has performed as the worlds best for years. It would have been far easier for her to run through the motions and not preform to her best. If she was done, then she was done. I've dealt with people that were over stressed and going through the motions with my work. I always wished that they had just quit and got their minds right. And, I'm no where near her level in my profession. She wasn't in the military. She wasn't performing life or death services. Her mental heath is more important than a medal. If Tiger or Tom ever find themselves at the crossroads she did, hopefully they have the courage to chose like she did.

Especially, Tom Brady. He should probably quit now. Be brave Tom!

All those excuses were there before when she won previously. They change rules all the time. In every sport.

She was sucking and didn't want to look bad so she came up with an reason so she would get headlines. She saw what happened to the tennis player that couldn't deal with the media. That playbook was already written and she followed it to the tee. She got all that love and $$$$$. And now she is too. She knew if she sucked that she wouldn't keep getting paid. Now those bengi's will still be rollin in.

She is supposed to be the GOAT. Can't name one GOAT that quit on their team or themselves when it mattered most.

I obviously don't know SB personally but it's highly irregular for someone to drop out of the Olympics, which obviously only happens every 4 years. One would assume that the Olympics would literally be one of the most prominent events around which you'd build your whole life. There would be no walking away as it were once all the training and prep-work had been done. So it's all very fishy. Definitely not normal.

In this case, we're considering an athlete that dropped out after keeping her reasons somewhat vague citing "mental health." Nobody knows what that really means. For the average person that might entail stress from family or work or a general sense of being overworked. But when you're talking about someone who's job it is to prepare for the Olympics, it's probably different.

Moreover, SB is incredibly rich and famous and wields a ton of power. She's a brand. She's on the Wheaties box, right? God only knows who's in her ear trying to influence her. It's safe to say she probably hates her existence. If it's so great then why aren't a million other people all signing up to take her spot? I'd love to spend Tiger Woods' money, but you don't get it without basically selling your entire life to whatever it is you do. Most people are not willing to make that sacrifice. However, this still looks weird. Dropping out of the Olympics at the last second means all the prep-work was a waste. Most athletes would rather compete and lose having put in all that work. Look at Tiger Woods' competing in the 2008 US Open. He was hurt but he still gave it a shot. And he actually won it.

So, there's definitely more to the story. But we'll probably never know what it is. Unless of course SB just up and decided she all of a sudden didn't care. But that of course doesn't jive with the fact that she prepared for the last several years for this moment. So something is clearly screwy.

Yes - I don't know but @DolphinGreg put it down pretty well above. She's all way too smiley, jovial and happy to be tormented by all these devils she says she has. I've know many people with mental issues and they sure didn't act like it's pretty much nothing when their whole existence comes crashing down. Maybe it's true and she's just a good actor. But something doesn't smell right. To me.

Also that's what these forums are all about. Many don't know about the motivations of Dolphins players, front office or team but they still comment on it. But I appreciate your opinion. I could be wrong. It's happened one time before.

Why don't you ask Anthony Bourdain's friends how easily someone with mental issues can hide it. From the outside looking in, it seems like he's living a life many people would die for. Yet he ended up committing suicide.

One persons' ice cold is another persons' seeing things clearly and not just emotionally.

Good on Suni Lee for stepping up and representing. She's the hero. We should just be talking about her fighting through adversity and let Simone walk off with the $$$$ that's waiting for her. Cuss guess what? She's not turning one red cent of it down even though she quit on her team.

Nope. But quitting is quitting. And it is a failure of epic proportions. The largest stage and the biggest moments are what pro athletes. Strive for. Crave.

2 outs bottom of the 9th...they need a hit here to win the world series...wait...what... Reggie Jackson just went back to the dugout...says it's too much pressure. It's too hard.

Michael Jordan is at the free throw line. Everything is one the line for the title. All he needs is this one shot to win the game...Wait...what...he's leaving the court...Says it's too much pressure.

She should have been sent home. At least back to the dorms and watched it on the tv like everyone else.

So I read up on this a little today. She has a case of the yips, only instead of missing the muscle memory for hitting or pitching, she is losing track of her body as she is diving towards the ground. Not uncommon in gymnastic sports, they call it the "twisties". Sometimes you have to retrain entirely to work through it. Anyone advocating for her to go break her neck needs to examine themselves.

Call it the twisties. Yips. Whatever. All it means is she choked under pressure. Instead of just saying the truth that she just couldn't handle the pressure, she pulled out the blame card...it's her mental illness that caused it. Or Larry Nasser. Or the Gymnastics Federation schedule. Or whatever new thing she comes up with next. Maybe the tooth fairy didn't come.

She should have said "I just couldn't get it done today, the other competitors were better then me on this day and I realized it" instead of blaming it on (insert reason to continue to get paid here). Step up and own it. Instead of blaming everyone and everything else.

And how does choking at the most critical time makes her a great American hero? Very GOAT like. Yeah. Ok. That's how GOATs perform at crucial times. Sure. Harsh - Yes - but she's a professional athlete that get's paid to perform. Not make excuses. Whether real or imagined. That's the standard we hold ALL pros to. Especially so called GOATs.

I truly hope she gets her mental illness treated and she gets better and goes on with her career. Great talent and she seems like a really nice, likable person. No ill will to her but the media holding her up as some demigod because she quit on here team just doesn't sit well. You may buy into but I don't.

I've never heard Simone Biles personally say she was the greatest.

Besides, why are you this passionate about an athlete who's clearly done way more than anyone this side of Michael Phelps and Usain Bolt to actually get eyes on the Olympics? Like Usain Bolt and Michael Phelps before her, Simone Biles has done nothing but popularize a largely irrelevant thing (gymnastics) within a largely irrelevant production (the Olympics).

Good for any of these athletes who, in their prime, can dominate to the extent they make any of the Olympics a must-watch event. Without these figures, no one would even care.

Did you know they're playing Water Polo?

Like, before you criticize Simone Biles, maybe you should criticize those dorks who are so cowardly that they're willing to actually accept a real-life gold medal for something like Water Polo! Do you even understand how bad it looks that water polo is going on anywhere outside my local YMCA?

What's next, volleyball in the Olympics, too?

I know, let's have handball be a sport or golf or how about synchronized swimming?!

Yeah, right. That'll be the day.

Has she said she's the GOAT - don't know. She embroidered the GOAT on her uniform which to mean says she embraces it. The media also regularly calls her the GOAT.

Gymnastics is one of the primary draws in the Olympics with or without her.

Every Olympics we have the new darling.

Dude, you have no idea what it takes to play water polo. They are the most conditioned athletes on the planet. Bad example. Maybe skateboarding. Or Rhythmic water dance might ne a better comparison.

At least that its not subjective to a judge. BTW they have PRO Volleyball leagues. The top 75% of players are making $187k a year. And IT IS in the Olympics. So maybe another bad example.

Golf is skill based. And ask golfers about pressure puts.

Artistic swimming, golf and handball are all represented at the Olympics. I hope this is tongue in cheek stuff otherwise your cred is zero.

As I suspected. You got no answer.

If Tua in even a regular season game and not even a playoff game said - "I was out there and there was so much pressure I just couldn't complete a pass. It was a mental health issue. I was I was holding the ball too long and if I took a sack I might have gotten seriously injured. So I took myself out of the game for the betterment of the team." He would be crucified on this board. And you know it. Why is that any different????? Would the media all rally around him????

BTW - Simon's net worth is $6mill. so don't say she's not a pro athlete. She has a tour going on right after this - Gold Over America, The Simon Biles Tour - avg $ is about $400 and floor seats are $1500 a shot. Wonder if they give refunds if she yips. So don't tell me the money isn't a factor.

No answer to your silly straw man? If Tua was concussed he would be pulled from the game without a choice as it would be to dangerous. I get that your in your feelings about this, but consider every single person evolved with gymnastics has come out and said that it would be to dangerous. I hold their expertise much more valuable than your feelings. Sorry.

What straw man. I asked why I should feel bad as they posted I should.

To you I said he thought he might get injured. Same as her concerns for injury (she wasn't injured). Fine that she pulled herself out but she should stop blaming it on everything and everyone else and just own that she choked at the most crucial time. She snapped under pressure. Why is that so hard for everyone to swallow? It happens. But because she a sweet, nice, good looking girl she gets a free pass. I just don't agree.

True. It was the only reason I could think of that they weren't treating her the same way as every example I put forth. It was a question on IF - that was the reason I brought it up. I think everyone no matter color, sex ,whatever should be treated the same. It just seems like she's getting a free pass and I'm being told I should be feel bad. I asked why? Still haven't gotten a credible response. See the Tua example. I used the same exact words she did in an exact football context. You know what would happen if he said that. But somehow that's a strawman because their position isn't defendable. It's just a debate. That's what we do here. Right?

The problem is your argument literally ignores how serious the twisties is. It was already stated how her continuing on while going through the twisties would be extremely dangerous and ill-advised. A football equivalent argument, as Two Tacos pointed out, would be Tua (or any footbal player) continuing to play in a game after suffering a concussion.

Mental health is a real thing. So im not bashing her about that. She has ADHD and could not take the medication needed due to the rules placed upon the government in that country.

with that said… she should have simply just opted out and said listen, i dont hve it, my performance is bringing down the whole team, so i dropped out and had the rest of the girls carry the team so that they walk away with some medals.

Instead her ego because of her stardom had to make it about mental health. Its not a youth thing, its a generation thing. Ive seen Lebron, Brady, Mcgregor and others have their management leak injuries right after a devastating loss.

just take it in the chin and say, you didnt have it. Simone was past her prime. Yes, 24 is past your prime as a gymnast. A gymnast prime is around the 16-19 year old range.

i dont think this makes me feel different about her though. Shes still considered one of the greatest to represent her sport and she seems like a high character lady.
