Get those skis and boards tuned up, ski season is approaching! Lets talk favorite places to ski. This is a local place yesterday. Bellayre New york (Mary will love this Pic! ) My favorite place I ever skied was Crested Butte Colorado. Favorite local places depend, with the kids I like Bellayre NY and Gore MTN in New York. I also really enjoy Loon, Wildcat and Cannon in New Hampshire. And Tuckerman's ravine for crazy back country skiing. Tell me where you go!
WOOOOOOOOOOOOO HOOOOOOOOOOO Maybe skiing sooner than I thought! picofday at Belleayre Mountain - New York's Winter Snow Park
My favorite place to ski would be Pomerelle. It offers night skiing which I prefer. Not as crowed at night. It is only 30 minutes drive from my house. All the snow we got two weeks ago is gone now.
Depends, several favorites. Colorado, Probably Durango (Formerly known as Purgatory) is very nice. Wolf Creek ALWAYS has tons of snow, but favorite is probably Copper Mountain. UTAH: Brighton, by far New Mexico: Toas is nice, Santa Fe is interesting, but back home at Pajarito is where its at. Nice "Small" mountain that not that many know about. All types of terrain, great great lodge, and the Snow always seems nice. Used to be a 25 minute drive from my front door to the secret chair where only Season Pass holders could get on Pajarito Mountain [ame=http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NtZWiHON64c]YouTube - A Day at Pajarito Ski Area[/ame] DISCLAIMER: No, none of this footage is me.
Just think Mary, you could hop into your car, pick me up, and we could be skiing in less than two hours right now!
I've been to several mountains in New England: Killington, Mt. Snow, Bretton Woods, Gunstock, Sunday River, Loon, etc... but I've heard the skiing out west trumps anything someone could possibly experience in New England. Is this true? Can someone explain what makes skiing out west vastly superior? I'm eager to plan a trip to Colorado in the next few years to experience it myself.
Heres the website for a Great bro I grew up with. He does Heli-skiing in Valdez Alaska now, for a living that is. I could keep up with him till about the time we were 12, then something happened to where he shifted into an ENTIRELY different gear. Used to marvel watching him POUND THE CRAP out of bumps. He actually made the Olympic team for bumps in like 88 I think. Blew out his knee and had to miss out. Great great guy. Anybody wanna go Heli-skiing in Alaska, I could probably hook you up for a pretty good deal Dean Cummings
I ski at Loon and Bretton Woods and Sunday River (Great place) all the time. Its a matter of choice, east coast skiing is more hard snow or icyer. West coast is more powder. My first day in Colorado skiing I could not do it, I kept falling until a local explained that I was using my edges to much being an east coast skier. Your really don't need to use your edges as much at west. Now saying that, I have had many powder days on the east coast also, but everday is a powder day out west.
I am still looking forward to my first East Coast Experience. I have always been more of a GS type of guy. Point em down hill and let em run. Another thing about powder is you actually have to transfer a bit of weight to your heels of course this kills you on icey or packed stuff. Powder is definately a totally different experience, and very very demanding on the Quads
Oh brother. You didn't see my post in the other thread? I said you jinxed us. Supposed to drop to the 30's and wet snow this afternoon, darn you! It's this time of the year that I go into hibernation. Hubby has to do everything - grocery shop, pick the kids up from school, whatever needs to be done outside is done by him until summer.
If I can get away from school and get some funds together, I'm going to go up north skiing and Kenny wants to meet up with me. You can come and keep the fires burning and have a beer waiting for us when we get back!
Wait if you BOTH go how will I be able to tell you apart? Idea: Greg, can you wear a big gold 1 necklace or something? Just askin......
You better stop Kenny - and Greg it's not snowing here so there. However, where Renee lives she has 8 inches on the ground already. She lives in Montague. Do you know where that is Greg? I think it's pretty north of me and, maybe, you.
Great site Marty! Look over a foot of snow an hour away!!!!! picofday at Belleayre Mountain - New York's Winter Snow Park
