How nice was that? Never mind Jon Beason was missing, never mind Chris Gamble was missing (although, living in Charlotte NC I can tell you Gamble is a shell of his former self), Never mind the Panthers were the worst team in the NFL last year.....The Miami Dolphins starters came out last night, at home, and completely dominated from the opening whistle, till half time.
The thing that popped out to me was the way the offense was utterly unpredictable. Different formations, shot-gun, motion, different sets, routes etc. Passing on first down, passing on 2nd down, passing on 3rd down. Wow. How about that?
One thing I wanted to see this year with Henning leaving, and Daboll coming in was motion. Ask In_Flames what happened on the Reggie Bush crossing route......we are sitting on the couch, I see Reggie motion to the right side of the formation, I see a linebacker shuffle out covering him, I grab Jasons shirt and yell "omg, linebacker on reggie, Henne better friggin see this"
The ball snaps, Henne sets, lets Reggie get separation.....boom.....big gain.
Reggie Bush not only looked explosive last night, but he looked strong, fresh, fast, shifty, and like someone with a HUGE chip on his shoulder. Any dolfan that's been paying attention since off season started....knows Reggie has been acting like it. Staying after practice, hitting the dummies, running extra gassers. And by the look of him last night, guy looked like someone who bulked up and is ready to take on more of a load in the offense. Good. Feed Reggie the rock!!!
Our defense was great, Burrnett was all over the place, sure tackles, and lots of speed. Oh our corners? Vontae Davis and Sean Smith haven't had ONE PASS COMPLETED against them all preseason. Good god.
Yes it was the Panthers, yes it was preseason....but seeing Chad Henne mobile, running, and even escaping from the pocket and instead of tucking and running, he looked back downfield and hit Fasano 38 yards down......was refreshing. If Chad Henne continues playing this well, while getting chemistry with Gates, and timing on the deep routes (he hit them in college).....we will be a nice surprise to most in the NFL this year!
Oh and how about Henne hitting Marshall in stride on that slant? Wait did I say slant? Yes! Slant routes, crossing routes, deep routes, motions......it's a new offense. And one thing is for sure, this is Hennes last opportunity to show he belongs as our starting QB. Because after this season, the excuses hold NO WATER.
Till next week....

I also love the fact that imo, Daboll, has Henne running more, Chad H looks like a much better athlete then he had the last two yrs. -
IMO, Gates and Hartline are getting open deep, and it's just a matter of time to connect.

What I was most excited about.....
Is that we didnt game plan. At all. Imagine when Daboll starts game planning against specific defenses......
But...like Marshall said...the real explosiveness of this offense wont happen until late in the season. What I would love to see....is the O make a dramatic improvement this season. Henne clearly show he can lead this team with this offense....then have another off season to fill in any holes....and really learn the nuances of this offense.
Next season is then I think Miami is gonna have an offense that once again scares teams....SICK likes this. -

Remember...these guys were locked out. Any work on agility....speed...lower body strength....Henne did completely on his own. I think he knew Sparano wanted a QB that could extend plays with his legs....take some yardage if its there....and really took it to heart.djphinfan likes this. -

Daboll should stay on the field. I always feel it's much better for the coordinators to stay on the field because it's much easier to communicate with the players and get a better feel of what's going on.

Hartline: Coach what's the name of this route?
Daboll: that's a fly route
Marshall: I remember this route from Denver but I forgot the name
Daboll: that's a slant route
Bess: wait a minute this is a curl route but is more than 3 yards????
Daboll: yes you can run curl routes more than 3 yards.
Daboll: *facepalm* I've work to do.ToddsPhins, Larry Little, SICK and 4 others like this. -
I always thought that having the OC and DC downstairs is more beneficial to an offense because he can actually have hands on time with the players.
-
i rather have the OC on the sidelines too, DC i don´t care so much

Henne looked real good last night and he should thrive in this offense. OL looked real good too. I did see Jerry whiff on a block that caused Sheets to be tackled in the backfield. Other than some false starts they played well. One thing I did see that concerns me is Henne locking in on his receivers, good defensive secondary's will pick up on that and it may cause turnovers. That is correctable and will make Henne a more effective QB.
I will be glad when the Marlins move to their new stadium and they can get rid of that dirt infield.SICK likes this. -
I'm just happy to not see any wildcrap or playaction on third down.
