I had an interesting discussion with a fellow employee recently. He played for ECU and has family who plays for Florida State. I asked him for his sleeper picks and he said Torey Smith out of Maryland, but he also said Jeff Maehl, the white WR #23 from Oregon. Well, I just finished watching highlights of Maehl and he looks like Hartline. He did, however, talk me out of being such a Hankerson fan. I told him I liked the Mathews kid as a sleeper from Oregon, but I guess that's kind of an easy one. So what say you! Gimme your sleeper picks or opinions about James and Maehl...
Interesting...Because I myself liked Noel Devine, but my friend thought otherwise. He thought it would be too hard to get him out in space, alligator arms, etc. However, he's so strong and fast that if the alligator arms red flag is somehow resolved, I'd still take him.
Dion Lewis, Byron Stingily, Owen Marecic, Greg Little. (Yeah, Little counts as a sleeper considering popular opinion about him.)
Another guy I like is DeAndre McDaniel, I drafted these guys in the GML because I liked what I saw out of them. McDaniel can really get after it look for him to provide a lil Jaruis Byrd for some team. If he is there in RD 4 I will be begging to take him, he is a playmaker.
Dion Lewis as well the issue imho is how tough they are ala Sproiles there are enough of those types of running backs to make a Meggett like move on one if they are tough enough to withstand the punishment the NFL deals to running backs.
So...if the issue that makes you skeptical of him is resolved, you'd be more receptive to drafting him? Well...if you're that easily swayed
Dude, I didn't even know Grigsby was coming out this year. I saw him play as a freshman at Arizona; he was fun to watch.
How about some positional sleepers? DT: Jarvis Jenkins clemson: looks like one of those late rd Dlinman Irish likes Sione Fua: brainy NT prospect from Stanford DE/OLB: Bruce Miller DE/OLB from Central Florida ILB: Mario Harvey Marshall Weak ilb class this yr DB: Tyler Sash Iowa, plays ST and has the toughness they like at Safety Davon House NM State OG: Andrew Jackson Fresno State Stepehn Schilling MI they like Big Ten players, or is that Big 12..err..15...? Zane Taylor UT 40 starts under his belt with good athleticism he could easily be a late rd steal Te: Andre Smith, a blocker but with a shuttle time they would like of 4.19 best among Te's. Qb: Josh Portis, this one is a straight up hunch that Ireland: A) has GM envy over Brad Smith B) wants to continue to run the Wildcat C) wants some payback over the Pat White fiasco, a Qb who CAN do what they thought White could do, but in the 7th rd would not surprise me at all. Rb Anthony Sherman a FB but with Deon Anderson's release and Lou Polite having a down 2010 it would not surprise me if he wound up in Miami
Woody: Sheesh, I was so high for that shot that Dianne Keaton had to keep me awake by geshtooping my coffee with Amphetamines Mia brought back from India... Pffsh...
Damn, you just made me realize how I really don't have a clue how Ireland will run his first tuna-free draft. It should be very entertaining and revealing...
I thought Terrence Newman was Tuna's first pick as a Cowboy!?! Let me check...Yup, Parcells no doubt had a hand in that draft. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Terence_Newman
Parcells wanted Kevin Williams that year and was overruled by Jerry Jones. Larry Lacewell wanted Newman, and Jones sided with Lacewell. Ireland was only a national scout back then. He had no say in who the Cowboys took. That didn't come till 2005, when he didn't have final say but he had more input than he previously had.
Allen Bradford - RB, USC Keith Darbut - DE/OLB, Baldwin-Wallace Eugene Clifford - S, Tennessee State - former Gatorade Player of the Year and Ohio State recruit. Kicked out for drugs. Cortez Allen - CB, Citadel Jason Kelce - C, Cincinnati - won't be "Miami nice", but a solid player from what I've seen of him at UC. Very undersized though. Brandon Fusco - C, Slippery Rock (don't think this one counts as a sleeper). Monte Simmons - DE/OLB - Kent State Cobrani Mixon - ILB - Kent State - teammates with Eugene Clifford at Colerain HS here in Cincinnati. Chris L. Rucker - CB - Michigan State Greg McElroy - QB, Alabama That's my sleeper list.
Sleepers: Chris Dieker, QB, Southern Illinois - Big kid with a very strong arm.....bad senior season....has a lot of raw talent.....throws the ball down the field with zip.....draft him late, work on his foot work, and you may have something. Johnny White, RB, North Carolina - Solidly built guy with a low center of gravity.....quick to and through the hole.....great vision......ability to make first tackler miss.....some injury issues and inexperience.....was a cornerback prior to moving to running back. Aldrick Robinson, WR, SMU - Run and shoot wide receiver.....understands how to find openings, read coverages, and make sight adjustments from the receiver position....very similar to Emmanuel Sanders....171 receptions, 3148 yards, and 30 touchdowns over past three years. Greg Salas, WR, Hawaii - Run and shoot wide receiver.....great at getting open and catching the ball.....like Robinson, makes sight adjustments on his routes.....282 receptions, 4310 yards, and 25 touchdowns last three years. Kealoha Pilares, WR, Hawaii - Another run and shoot receiver.....more productive around the endzone than his teammates.....gets open.....catches the ball cleanly....has some run after catch ability.....154 receptions, 1996 yards, 19 touchdowns over past two years.
Yes, Aldrick Robinson please. Along with those two Hawaii WRs, there's a S on their team who tested off the charts (Silva) who I'd throw a 7th at if I had the chance.
QB Ricky Stanzi - not really a sleeper per se but I dont see him being drafted before the 4th and for a QB that's a sleeper. Borderline starter and excellent backup prospect IMO. Will outperform half the QB prospects drafted ahead of him who are overrated IMO RB Johnny White - nORTH cAROLINA -Runs very hard, almost too hard since he broke his shoulder. Might be a steal in the 5th or later rounds. Maybe even a UDFA RB Da'Rell Scott - Maryland - Injury prone but explosive. Roll of the dice if he can stay healthy but another guy that can probably be gotten in the 6th or later. If he can stay healthy he will be very good WR - Dwayne Harris - East Carolina - Think Devonne Bess but with more playmaking ability. Fantastic slot prospect and will probably be around in the 4th or later WR - Owen Spencer - NC State - Might go undrafted but he makes plays. Definitely worth a shot in the 7th or UDFA. Great rotational WR propsect IMO. OT - Jah Reid - UCF - Interesting ROT prospect. OG - Byron Bell - New Mexico - Mammoth tackle 6'5" 340 who should be moved inside. Another one that is a 5th or later prospect DT Cedric Thornton - Southern Arkansas. Nice burst and first move. Might be an UDFA 3-4 OLB Bruce Miller - UCF - Pass rusher that may be had in the 5th or later. 3-4 OLB Mario Addison -Troy - 6th round or later? Are you kidding me. Watch his burst. Whoever gets him gets a steal 3-4 ILB Greg Jones - Michigan State - Since he's being slotted for 3rd or 4th round, I would put him in the steal category. Think he'll be a damn good ILB if drafted by a 3-4 team CB Ras I Dowling - Virginia - 1st round talent that can be had in the 2nd or 3rd round due to injuries suffered his senior year. Maybe not a sleeper but a steal CB Brandon Hogan - West Virginia - Bit of a thug apparently but has 1st or 2nd round talent and will fall to the 4th or 5th round SS Jerron Johnson - Boise State - Starter material that can be had with a 5th or later pick
since it allows me to only post ten videos per post here are the others left off
I third the Johnny White opinions. Seems his projection is UDFA according to some mocks, I would definitely spend a 7th on him with our RB situation and see what happens. He was really running hard before the injury and wears 34/has dreads, can't go wrong.
I like those Wr's that KB named "but" I also think Marlon Moore and Roberto Wallace are better positioned to offer what we need more quickly and I think we need a stone cold speed rushing specialist ala Wake in 09 or old school Lorenzo Brommel as Misi has a good all around game and Q and Ike Francis do not offer very much as passrushers or special teams players. Dontay Moch would be perfect in a Adalius Thomas role in Mike Nolan's defense or even Fresno's Chris Carter.
Both Q and Ike were drafted solely because of their pass rushing skills. It never hurts to have too many, though... Speaking of Brommell, however, remember the game saving goal line tackle he made against Michael Vick. Vick's rookie season, one of the most entertaining games I have ever seen.
Didn't Brommell also break Peyton Manning's jaw? As for Moses, I believe he's an UFA once the lockout is over, so who knows if he'll be back.
I respectfully disagree. All three of the guys KB has mentioned have likely ran more routes and caught more passes in college than Moore and/or Wallace have between college and pros combined. I'm not trying to sell Wallace or Moore short, but I think all 3 guys (even Pilares who has only played 2 years at WR I believe) would have more awareness and better hands than either one of those two showed last season.
Which is fair, what I'm thinking is Hartline/Bess/Marshall are entrenched so the #4 and #5 Wr's have to be low cost and offer ST value which both Wallace and Moore showed they could do at least somewhat in 2010.
