Ok so maybe Im jumping the gun a little here on the new Slipknot album. They've released 1 track thus far, "All Hope is Gone" (title track) while "Psychosocial" is set to hit Itunes tomorrow. Both tunes sound just as hard as the old stuff. Unfortunately it doesnt come out till August 26th, so we'll have to make due with these 2 tracks. Anyone else a huge Slipknot fan? http://www.slipknot1.com/
You didnt mind them on our honeymoon, or did you lie about that too! They are also set to unveil their new so-called "Purgatory Masks". Spinner.com will have them on their main page tomorrow for 24 hours. The mask worn by frontman Corey Taylor is said to have "the stiches of Dr. Kavorkian" .
Ok, Maybe when I said "Anyone else a huge Slipknot fan?", I should have said "Anyone who wants to bash Slipknot can go to hell"
Honestly I could care less about the masks. It is pretty gimmicky although they say they wear them because they dont want fans to focus on their looks but their music. Ive always thought Corey Taylor had the best pipes of any Nu-Metal/Harcore singer out there. Not many guys could pull off his vocal style the way the chorus of a typical Slipknot song seems to fade from hallowed screams into melodic sing.
No Opie we're talking about the band Slipknot, not the crappy song by Grateful Dead of the same name... silly 4 year old
Heres the link to the new "Purgatory Masks" on Spinner.com Some pretty cool ones. http://www.spinner.com/2008/07/01/new-slipknot-masks-exclusive/
The day has arrived. Listened to most of it already and it sounds awesome. Corey's best vocal performance to date.
I picked this album up last week. Not bad, but I'm not completely sure I like it. Couple songs are a little to light for me, something I didn't think would be possible on a Slipknot album. You're right in that it's Corey's best vocal performance to date. I owe this album a few more listens before I come to a complete decision on it.
Its def "experimental" metal. I was a little surprised at the lightness as well, but the songs have started to grow on me much in the way Subliminal verses did. Its been criticized for sounding too much like 'Stonesour', but personally it sounds like a mix between the two (if thats possible) A band like Slipknot is in a lose/lose IMO. If they put out the same old **** people say "Its horrible! It sounds exactly like the old Slipknot". Then they try something new and people are pissed because it doesnt sound like the old Slipknot.
