And that's all he's capable of, imo. In our offense that's so devoid of playmakers, I don't see why they wouldn't give Fasano as much work as he could handle. Bennett is still growing as a player as well.
Last year Anthony Fasano was quite good as a tight end down the field. He did it unconventionally, with really good hands and body positioning rather than getting great separation, but I think he pretty clearly did it.
And last year Fasano averaged 2.5 yards per catch more than Bennett has this year. Fasano's 13.5 in 2010 was also almost 2 yards more than Bennett's ypr this year. The dip in Fasano's ypr is due to how he is being used, not because he lost so much speed and athleticism in the offseason. I think Fasano and Bennett are pretty comparable athletically.
Fasano is obviously capable of more, as he did more in 2010 and 2011. I think he should be used more, as I don't think this staff is getting as much out of its potential playmakers as it could. Lamar Miller is clearly capable of giving more than he is being asked for. Bush is capable of giving much more in the passing game. Clay is capable of giving more than he is being called on to give.
He caught 2 passes for 57 yards on passes over 20 yards last year. Both were TD's, so there is that. So 2 passes qualifies as "quite good" down field?
http://espn.go.com/nfl/player/splits/_/id/9639/year/2011/anthony-fasano I doctored his stat page too I guess.
I don't remember Fasano ever having great hands. Yes I know what he just did last week but I can't remember ever seeing something like that out of him. Bennett is a better target, imo. Especially for a young QB.
Clay is def capable if he can be consistent. I disagree though I think if Fasano had the capability to be more of a threat in the passing game then we'd give him the work. Why wouldn't Philbin want another guy to do what Finley did/attempted to do in GB? Fasano just doesn't have that kind of game.
No, but you can't help what the problem is so what's the deal? Did you watch last year? PFF has him 5 of 7 for the 3rd highest catch rate on long passes among tight ends, with only those 5 being catchable. ESPN has him with 12 catches of 20+ yards, unless he's amazing after the catch that doesn't make sense. Or you can go to NFL.com and see videos of multiple 20+ yard catches published in 2011. Hell, you can find a video of JP Losman throwing one. http://search.nfl.com/search?&query...61&mc_Video=1144&mc_Image=532&mediatype=Video
Who cares about last year,I only care about this year and going forward if you want to live in the past good luck
It's tough to say, simply because people have their own grades. Fauria is probably worthy of a top-60 selection, but is Lutzenkirchen? Debatable.
Keller would be a great pickup. It would finally be a threat for Tannehill. I'm also kind puts partial to Purdue players.
More than getting a different player is improving on the way we attack. Why go out and get a corvette if you're going to drive 5 mph on the beach? IMO, Clay could be a better downfield threat with more aggressive offensive play calling.
If we do sign a TE, then my money is on Martellus Bennett. If nothing else because he is a former Cowboy.
You don;t have to sell me on Fasano as a good TE. I already think he is. My main point is that I think if we can make him the 2nd best backup tight end in the NFL, that it would relieve our WR issues. Evidently, ESPN's stats are wrong. There is enough video to refute that 2 for 57 stat.
