What do you mean "why"? any argument to fire Philbin is just as strong as one for keeping him. I don't see any obvious, clear and convincing reason why Philbin should not be fired... Im not saying he should be. but I can certainly understand if he was...
it seems you consider this a completely absurd notion and entirely and convincingly wrong. sorry I don't see it as airtight as you seem to see it. -

This is a game Miami had to win for the playoffs. They were skunked, from beginning to end. Teams that play up-to or down-to their competition reveal an issue with coaching.

absolutely. shut out. patethic.

I've been saying this for months, including during our hot streak, but we are not a well coached team. Philbin made a lot of statements when he was hired about what kind of team we would be...and after 2 years none of those are true.
Imo he is not the answer. -

Out coached again.
Failed to make adjustments prior to and during the game
put Tannehill in unnecessary position of being hurt when game was obviously out of reach
failed to adjust defense to tee up on buffalo when their receivers went down.....just about every play should have been a blitz
and the biggest and most telling (in his own words) "Obviously swagger, doesn't fit us, what so ever"
Couldn't have said it better

I've been saying it for weeks now.
Anyone find it odd our 2 min offense runs so well, but our opening, scripted offensive plays are so bad?
Sherman is a mega hurdle for this offense to clear. And because Philbin loves him and his stubborness refuses to see that, he should receive blame too.Phins_Fan_87 likes this. -
This all feels a lot like the Wanny game in Minnesota, he never really recovered after that loss.
-
So just so I'm caught up, we should fire everyone after every loss, right? That's the way it works around here?

Jeff Ireland likely one more year...who knows. This team makes me numb -

I'm not sure if Philbin will pan out or not but I think you need to give a HC 3-4 years before making a change. After 5 years, amazingly, some people don't see the problem with Ireland. It's actually a pretty crazy standard. -
I don't know why I even bother with these knee-jerk threads.
Don't get me wrong, abysmal display today, but we've won impressive games too.GMJohnson likes this. -
Hostile stadium, bad weather, division rival. We shat the bed. Not the fist team to do that, won't be the last.
2nd year coach, 2nd year QB, piecemeal OL. Never thought we turned the corner, love our guys, love out coach. Continuity builds dynasty's, Philbin needs 2 more years to accurately judge. I'd say this year was "OK" for any coach. Better teams have done worse.mlb1399 likes this. -
hey say what you want about Wanny but at least he had our guys ready to play , we had good running game we had better olinemen , we had way better tightends in fact we had three good ones if you include Ed Perry . we had bad games with every coach so this isn't new . what is bad is the fact we are giving up 24 points a game and we were lucky not good in the wins.
Philbin needs to make changes or we will be worse next year. if Phlbin doesn't make changes then I would fire him . -
I think coaches get too much credit when a team wins and far too much blame when the team losses.
Today the players on the field for the Dolphins were simply outplayed by a team who wanted it more than they did. No one on the offense or defense played effective throughout the game. Coaches can only call the plays and it is then up to the players to make a play on the field.
Today, the players didn't step up and make any plays to keep the Dolphins in the game. They missed tackles and let the Bills offense off the hook, time after time. The Dolphins offense did absolutely nothing all day long. Tannehill was under constant pressure throughout the game and even when he was able to throw the ball, the receivers didn't make the catches or Tannehill was off on his throws.
The OL and the RB's could just have stayed in Miami and watched the game on TV and they would have been about as effective as they were in the game itself.
So while I remain iffy on Philbin as the Dolphins HC, as I have been since he first got the job. I certainly don't blame him or any of the other coaches for the pathetic game this football team played today. That was 100% the fault of the players on the field, IMO. -
