of a teams QB????
Just ask the Jets and Bears!!
Please don't turn this into a Henne bashing thread
I don't really have any point to make except watching these Championship games have left me nervous and very very concerned.
If we have football next year
If we are able to complete trades
If we are able to draft
How much could this lack of a labor deal set our Fins back if we actually have no football next year????
2 years, 3........4????????
circumstances being what they may....we potentially could not even remotely think about being good enough to compete for a super bowl for many years if this labor deal is not worked out!!
Thoughts gentlemen???

I don't post a lot like I would because of that reason. Same crap over and over. Just trying to start something different to talk about:up:

what i learned was just how good Rapistberger is at escaping the pocket and extending the play. he's in a class of his own there that's what beat the jets this evening. The jets shut down manning and brady because they could gameplan for them to always stay in the pocket. With the rapist, you can't do that. He destroys everything you try to do on defense because he can just run it on 3rd down when youve got everyone covered.
Hes the best in the league, if not the best all time, at moving in the pocket and extending plays/drives.
What im saying is, no matter what we do this offseason, we're not going to end up with him at QB, so all we could have possibly learned from these playoffs was that hes a damn good QB and their very lucky to have him.
on the other side, Rodgers is a great QB with a very good QB developing coach, with great WRs and fantastic playcalling. this scenario is a little more plausible for us. The packers are perfect example of what happens when you bring in the right talent, the right coaches, and call the right plays.dolfan7171 likes this. -
Those are the same QB's that got those teams to the Championship games. I mean Rodgers was 17 for 30 with 2 INT's not TD's, its not like exactly tore it up today.
-
Big Ben and Aaron Rogers both killed teams by extending the play with their feet.
Cam Newton in the draft. Sign a vet. Let vet and henne battle to start. Let Newton learn from bench for several years.MikeHoncho likes this. -
Any team with a high enough pick to take Cam Newton, cannot afford to have a 1st rounder riding pine for 2-3 years.
Brett Favre may have solidified Green Bays future by indecisively staying longer then he should have and allowing Rodgers to learn. Really, that's the only reason he wasn't thrown to the wolves so quickly.Bpk likes this. -
What was reemphasized today was that while you need an above average QB to win consistently, you also need a strong team around them for those days when they don't play all that well.

Defense does make a difference :lol:dolfan7171, adamprez2003 and MarinePhinFan like this. -
Passing is important but its about both sides of the ball. You have to be able to pass more efficiently than your opponent. So that means you have to pass and stop the pass. You'll hear many people saying "its all about the QB" and many saying "its all about the defense". But there have been exceptions to both of those claims. IMO any argument that claims only one side of the ball is important is completely absurd. But its also absurd to claim that every area of the team is important. There have been champions that run poorly and champions that stop the run poorly. There have been champions with poor STs. There have been champions with non-elite QBs and even champions with poor overall defenses. But since 1940 there has not been a single NFL champion that has failed to pass more efficiently than their opponents (using offensive and defensive pass ratings as a measure of efficiency).

what these 2 games proved to me was not the offense per se .... it is that we need to find the special someone to bring our DEFENSE to the 'special' level ..... I didn't think ANY of these 4 OFFENSES were special -- it was the DEFENSES that made the difference ... without a doubt!!
we are very close on D .... we just need that special LB or S to put us on par with a championship D -- THAT is what is going to win us a championship ! Not Henne or the OFFENSE.dolfan7171 and MarinePhinFan like this. -
The Packers won despite Rodgers 55 QBR.
Defense wins championships.
Steelers #1 defense
Packers #2 defense -
The steelers defense wasn't very impressive at all in the 2nd half. They avg only giving up 63 yards rushing in a game and they gave up 70 in the 2nd half alone. Plus two TDs from sanchez. Even Polomalu said after the game that their biggest defensive play was Big Ben converting on 3rd down to keep the Jets offense off the field. -

The Jests defense was not able to stop the run whether it was by either Ben or Mendenhall and that's why they lost. Well, that and the Steelers defense scoring 7 points and holding the Jests to 17 points.
The scrambling ability of Ben is definitely a huge help for this team. He can move around and either take off or give his WR's time to get open. However, Ben did not have a good game and he sure as hell didn't "do everything right". :pointlol:dolfan7171 likes this. -
Defense won both the NFC and AFC Championship games yesterday. Defense will most likely win the Super Bowl again as it has in 40 out of the last 44 Super Bowls.dolfan7171 likes this. -
QB play isn't important. You can have a top 5 defense and Duante Culpepper and win it all.
-
Does this magical QB come with an elite defense and competent OC?
-
His two Ints were silly. One was on Mendenhall not catching it, the other was just a deep ball attempt on 3rd down that put the jets on their 20 just like a punt would have.
All game long Ben made decisions and plays that only the great ones make. The scrambles on 3rd down, the efficiency on the final drive to keep the jets O off the field, the deep passes to sanders and Miller. the stats lie in this one. He was fantastic, and this is coming from someone who honestly hates the guy.
Adversely, my opinion on Sanchez was this and only this, He's OK. Santonio Holmes is awesome, Braylon is a good #2, and Cotchery is a GREAT #3. And Kellers pretty decent too. Sanchez has everything he could ever ask for and he still doesn't wow me. He's young and all, but we know how the nfl works. This very well could be the most talent Sanchez ever gets to work with. I still don't see greatness in him.MarinePhinFan likes this. -
His 2nd INT was on 2nd down and the Jests had just cut the lead to 14 (24-10) If the Steelers score at least a FG there then the game is most likely out of reach no matter what. His INT allowed the Jests to have another chance. -
You could argue they should have played for the FG, but isn't that mentality kind of OUR problem? -

Look at what happens when bad coaching meets young talent. You go from this video, to the 2010 Miami Dolphins!
Notice the escapability. The Play fakes. The athleticism. The lack of batted passes. The extending of plays. The reading of defenses. Call it a sophomore slump. Call it regression. But you can't say he always sucked. That so called "emotion" BS, he had that too. He played with fire. Look at that kid run around that field. Looks almost veteran like. I almost see a little Favre in him.
Notice RB's that can actually run. Play fakes when they help. Motion on offense. Those things help.Colorado Dolfan, Striking, 2socks and 1 other person like this. -
There is a time to play for AT LEAST a FG. I'm not saying you don't take shots, as Ben did there, but the throw was bad and it was intercepted. -

yes, 2010 was a wasted year for Henne .... and the blame - if you want to call it that is 100% on the coaching staff threatening him all offseason and CP hanging over his head. at the point CP came in - Henne wasn't going to change over the rest of the season. give the kid a GOOD - PRODUCTIVE offseason this year ... i believe we will be surprised at the result. He was a beaten man this year.
-
To me, that makes me think the QB needs to be accurate above all else, and that defensively, your Defensive Co-ordinators coverage and pressure schemes will be key. -
There's still Henne supporters out there? Damn, talk about infinite patience...
