I was playing GTAIV and it just went to a gray screen. Powered it off and back on and now it doesn't play games anymore. Per discussion with Playstation help line, it is ruined. Unlike Microsoft, PS3 makes you send in a receipt for service. Now I have to find a receipt and it was a gift. What a pain in the ***. So for those of you who think the PS3 is immune to the type of problems Xbox has, think again.
I think they said that would work if you can't find the receipt, so you might want to hang on to that.
****, I don't hav emy online statement anymore (at least the original one), because when my wallet got stolen I had to get new cards, and they just transferred the account to a new #, but all the old statements didn't come with it.
Most larger stores keep track of transactions like that, so you should be able to call them and ask for a new receipt.
Sounds like an isolated incident bro. That sucks and Im sorry. Theres no way Id be able to provide a receipt either (****ty policy by Sony) I havent heard of too many PS3's having this problem in a non GTAIV situation. Hope you get it taken care of in time for the release of Resistance 2.
If that dept. is anything like the TV dept. then unless you have it under warranty or an extended warranty then no way dude....the bills on you.
I know when I first got the 360 I got quite a few problems. Once it started eating my discs I sent it out and got a new one, not one problem.
what horse crap. why would you need a receipt? you have a friggin system...it be broke...fix the ***** ***-wipes! that sucks man.
Not sure if anybody cares, but I guess I'll continue to keep everyone posted on this. So the box comes yesterday for me to ship the PS3 back to the company. Earlier Sony had sent me an email. It had the list of items to send back. The email list said ship back the Console, wires and controller, and proof of purchase. Then I open up the shipping box and the instructions there say to send back just the console, no wires or controllers, and proof of purchase. So two different conflicting sets of instructions. So what to do. Do I follow email instructions and send it with the wires and controller and risk not getting them back? Or, do I follow box instructions and send just the console and risk them not fixing it because there are no wires? I went with the box instructions because it clearly had a big picture of wires and controllers with a circle and line through them. If Sony tries to screw with me on this, I'll never buy another PS3 game again.
Me too. And I would have photo copied the boxes instructions as proof of what the instructions told me.
oooo, very good idea. Never would have thought of that. In other news, my 360 has been repaired and should be here thursday (though might not get it til friday do to having to sign and such). Anyways, that means it took 16 days from the day I shipped it (the 8th) to get it back (the 24th). I had heard of people with much faster turnaround, so that kind of stinks, but at least it only took about a week (5 business days at least) for them to actually fix it. Most of the time has been spent in-transit or in-limbo (ie the weekend).
I actually thought about that. But I needed to get it sent out today and didn't have access to a copier. But I did keep the instructions so if they screw with me I still have the evidence.
I have it under warranty with best buy so i'm not too worried. When 30 or 40 percent of Sony's consoles start failing then I might worry. Anyway, I'm sorry for your bad luck. I've owned all three gens of playstation and they've all been rock solid.
