1. The team will try to acquire a second-round pick in April's draft after trading its original second-round choice (as well as a second-rounder in 2012) to Denver last year for receiver Brandon Marshall.
"You don't have it right now, but like you've seen in the past, there's ways to get it back," Ireland said.
2. If a new collective bargaining agreement isn't signed before the draft, the Dolphins' only option would be to trade down from the 15th pick in the first round to acquire more picks. With no CBA in place, teams are not be allowed to trade players.
3. Improving team speed will be a focus this off-season - "no doubt about it," Ireland said.
While he said he wants to improve speed in all areas, he said it will be important "obviously in the skill positions" on offense.
4. It's possible that one of Miami's free-agent running backs, Ronnie Brown and Ricky Williams, will return. "There's a chance we'd bring one of those guys back, for sure," Ireland said.
5. A new quarterbacks coach, as well as two more offensive assistants, will be hired "very soon," said Ireland, who said an announcement was possible late Tuesday.
The Dolphins also hired Dave Fipp, formerly the assistant special teams coach in San Francisco, to the same position in Miami, a league source confirmed.
6. While much of the front office's attention has been on improving the offense, which finished 30th in points scored, Ireland said, "I'm not just closing my eyes on this defense, either."
