Hot on the heels of its consideration of an all-female
Ghostbusters reboot,
Deadline says Sony is now also considering a female-centric spinoff of its
Spider-Man franchise.
The company’s previously announced plans for Spidey, which included a
carefully mapped-out lineup of sequels and spinoffs for villains like
Venom and the Sinister Six, has been
thrown into chaos by a variety of factors including
The Amazing Spider-Man 2’s lackluster box-office performance and the dissolution of the partnership between
Amazing 2 writers (and Spideyverse architects) Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci.
The Sinister Six is
still coming in November 2016, but Deadline reports that Sony is
otherwise entering a “top-to-bottom revamp” of the material, including a
previously unannounced spinoff that would star a female character from
the Spider-Man mythos:
