Looking to add a sound bar to one of my TV's.

Samsung 6000 series with a couple available HDMI ports(of course)

I'm not a sound expert in the least or particularly a sound "snob" so not really looking for some high end audiophile upgrade.

    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I do but its ancient. I use it during the playoffs/Super Bowl and when watching some new DVD we may buy.

RCA. With all the various surround speakers. So probably what I have is already sufficient. It works just fine. I'm just sound bar curious.

How long have you been bar-curious? Since college?

(didn't take long to find the innuendo, did it.)

As an ex Klipsch owner, I'm guessing their soundbar delivers bigger performance than its size would suggest, especially with its wireless subwoofer. If I wanted a quality sound bar w/o going crazy in price, this is probably what I'd get for $499, as there's a big difference between this and the standard crap. The next step up for me would probably be KEF [which is the surround system I currently own] but that gets more pricey. If I wanted to go less expensive, Energy makes a great speaker for the money [$299]. Personally I wouldn't buy anything from the non speaker specialist companies like Sony, Samsung, Yamaha, Sharp, LG, Panasonic, or Onkyo...... or that mass marketed, overrated company- Bose.

Check out Amazon and read the reviews to fit your budget and intent... http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=sr_nr_n...in+tvs&ie=UTF8&qid=1388364676&rnid=2941120011

Personally, I'd be careful of the reviews b/c:

    A. the people who give glowing reviews for the cheaper stuff like Sony, Samsung, LG, Panasonic, Yamaha, Onkyo, etc have likely have done so w/o having owned or listened to something that actually sounds good. Kinda like the uncultured folk who think Corona is a good beer.

    B. a lot of the reviews for the less expensive stuff [like the Yamaha you mentioned] are likely based on expectations related to the price rather than the actual sound quality. If you look through some of those Yamaha reviews you see the consumers are basing it off comparisons with similar stuff like Sony, Onkyo, and Panasonic, mostly b/c they're more concerned with budget than quality. Now, if someone is looking to stay in that price range then the Yamaha seems like a decent buy, but I wouldn't compare a 4 star consumer-rated Yamaha to a 4 star Klipsch and think you're getting the same quality b/c if that same Yamaha held a $400 price tag it's consumer rating would probably drop to 1 star.

If I'm looking at a Yamaha for $300, I'd rather spend $80 more for the Energy Power Bar Elite [which is owned by Klipsch] and get something that's closer to audiophile quality and will sound good for music too, not just tv. Personally I just don't like buying speakers from electronics companies. I prefer my speakers from speaker companies.

No argument, but he isn't an audiophile like yourself and said he isn't looking for high end. Completely agree on point A... as for someone looking to simply boost the sound on a second or third tv for the bedroom or something, then yeah, I'm going cheap. Like your dates... :tongue2:

If I'm trying to go small, I'd rather do an in-the-box, 5.1 type deal and get this $1000 Martin Logan system for $280 that's significantly more of the audiophile level, evidenced by its use of gold plated posts. But you'd obviously need a separate 5.1 digital receiver to power it, which you could do used for 100-120 bucks. This 400 dollar combination kicks the sh-t out of any soundbar.

Currently I own this KEF 5.1 satellite system which absolutely rocks, even for the $1000 price tag. I turned it into 7.1 by adding a pair of KEF XQ10 bookshelfs for the front speakers b/c I have a 7.1 receiver, but even by themselves they sounded phenomenal. I have a 130watt/channel high-end Onkyo TX-SR806 receiver and they ate up every bit of it in a 15x22 living room [with an open kitchen attached]. I had the slightly smaller KHT 2005.3 satellites before it, and there's definitely a difference. Before that I had Energy's renown 5.1 Take Classic system that blows away everything in its price range, and the KEF's are still a serious upgrade.

I don't know if I'd consider it "audiophile" considering it's still under $400 for the whole shebang. To me, audiophile level stuff translates to higher end speakers [and receiver] that get into a heavier monetary investment. Klipsch is more like middle of the road, not the crap from the electronics companies but not the special stuff like Sonus Faber [which is a special experience if you ever get a chance to hear them].

Dont worry I'm at a different Waffle House.

I'm just outside of Pinehurst. Just over an hour from you. You ever go to High Park Bar & Grill to watch the games [I believe that's the place that caters to Miami fans]? Wanna get together and watch the season on NFL Rewind and get disappointed all over again? lol

Its legal to spy in the bathroom as long as you have a clear shower curtain.

There are a couple fin fans that go to the Brickhouse too. Decent folks. There is a bar for every team now. Brickhouse is ours, Steelers got Sammy tap house, jets have amedios and there's even a browns bar for what ever reason.
