Why not just fire him now instead of letting him coach 3 more games?

how the **** does ireland stay? ross is a clown if he fires sparano and keeps ireland. ireland is more responsible than sparano for our playoff drought. ross is clueless if he keeps ireland
-
After digesting this news, I don't think I'm happy.
I think Ireland needs to go as well. We need a fresh start. Plus it means Cowher can be crossed of the list. -
I think it is going to be very difficult hiring a big name coach if Ireland remains the GM. It has been reported that one of the main reasons Harbaugh did not want to come to Miami was because Ross wanted him to keep Ireland as the teams GM. First it was Parcells who quit when he realized that he couldn't succeed in rebuilding the Dolphins. Now Sparano is the next to go and Ross needs to get rid of the last of the Parcells failed regime by also ending the tenure of Ireland as the Dolphins GM.
-
Well this means it will have to be a HC that is willing to work with Ireland as the roster architect. Up and comer at HC? Pete Carmicheal or Chud? Mike Nolan?

If this is true, I smell another 1st round lineman, followed by another sub .500 season.
Yay for us! -

I don't think the article is accurate, this piece was run yesterday I believe when he was writing that even if they won out the chances were still slim..its just PFT printing a local reporters opinion..I don't see proof where Ross says on the record that Irish is back.

Mando has been wrong before. He flat out stated there was no way Brady Quinn would slide to the Phins when we drafted the Ginn family. But he has somebody feeding him info.inside the FO or he would look like an idiot for putting this out there if it wasn't true. (He did leave a little wiggle room)"barring some unexpected circumstance"

We all know Sparano's time was up here, especially how things have been this season. A little surprised that Ireland is going to be kept, but, whatever. Only time will tell I suppose.
-
I'm sure Armando Salguero is correct that this is Steve Ross' mindset right now.
However, predicting that Jeff Ireland will be here in 2012 is sort of like predicting the Dolphins would finish the season 8-8.
It's a prediction of the future based on what you're seeing right now. The big development is that it has been decided that Tony Sparano will not be retained beyond this season. I'm going to tell you right now, whoever the Head Coach is may want some say over who his personnel chief is and how the front office is structured. That doesn't mean the new Head Coach would demand final say, but I've heard it put forward a number of times that the Dolphins' organizational structure is not attractive to many coaches like Jim Harbaugh, Bill Belichick, Bill Cowher, etc. And Steve Ross must know already that the primary reason he didn't get Jim Harbaugh was because he insisted on keeping Ireland. He must also know that would probably be reason #1a that Bill Cowher is not interested, with the lack of quarterback being reason #1b.
It's easy to say that we're a talented football team when the team won 4 of 5 against a favorable schedule filled with slumping and injured opponents. This loss could be the tip of the iceberg though. We could finish the year with 5 straight losses, a 4-12 team...and then what? People going to keep talking about how talented the roster is?creasy likes this. -
It's absolutely the right decision to make. Jeff Ireland has done a lot better job than most people are willing to give him credit for.

Damn still stuck with Ireland.

Salgeuero is never wrong about anything.
-
I am as worried about Ireland as a GM as far as talent collection goes, as I am the fact that keeping him hamstrings the potential list of coaches that would have otherwise been attracted to the job.

Well, think about this...why say it now?
3 games left, the way the NFL works is now guys will have little reason to play as hard as they have been.
Which will improve draft slotting
But 3 games left, now is the time to think about such things, even a .500 season is off the table, 3 straight losing yrs with Sparano, pretty clear a change has to be made. -
well if ireland stays let him draft an offensive lineman. he does well with those in the first round (pouncey, long). dont trust him with qb. he'll pick landry jones
-
Ross would ideally fire Ireland before swiveling the chair in Sparano’s direction and firing him.
On a side note, I wonder what the players, who’ve been mounting a PR campaign on Sparano’s behalf, would feel about Ross firing the guy they want (Sparano) but retaining the guy they hate (Ireland).sws84, texanphinatic, djphinfan and 1 other person like this. -

If Cowher or Gruden or even Fisher tell Ross that he wants to bring in his own GM, Ireland is out like yesterday's garbage.
Besides, the source is Mando.
Finally, predicting that Sparano is gone after today's performance is about as risky as predicting that the sun will rise tomorrow. Sparano had one last chance to stay, and that was to win out. After today, Ross has to be thinking why he ever had any doubt about firing Sparano.djphinfan likes this. -

They need to fire Irelands butt right along with Sparano. Send the Dallas connection packing and let Marc Codumbo do their packing...

The people who said they wouldn't mind having coach fistpump for another year are probably the same ones who believe this report. Can you even imagine the millions ross would stand to lose if irish stays? Season tickets, merchandise, concessions, overall value of the franchise?

I have always wondered what level of narcissism it takes to believe that a player who has been plagued by injuries is going to come in, stay healthy, and be your mainstay in the positions where the most contact occurs.

Dolphins should have a draft pick between 5-7...maybe even 4th if they go 4-12. And odds are they can have a chance at Barkley/RG3...if Ireland IS still here and doesn't get a QB in the first round (or Peyton...) then they might as well move into the Marlins new stadium, because they won't sell 37,000 tickets per game, let alone 70,000.
I don't like Ireland or trust him...I hope this isn't true. I'd try and give the benefit of the doubt...but the excuse that he's found "some" talent, well he makes millions of dollars, I'd expect him to find some talent. But you need to find a QB and some talent that is above average. -
