It's official. The most spoiled, brat-ish, fat-baby, knee-jerk, jerk-faced, obnoxious fans in all of sports are no longer New York Yankees followers. They've been usurped. And that's saying something. Spoiling for a fight? Pats fans are now most obnoxious - CBSSports.com Live Scores, Stats, Schedules
bandwagoners. that's what they do. they're just mad that they spent all that $$ on merchandise on a team that they can no longer root for since the pats don't dominate anymore. Look for Giant merchandise sales to pick up a bit now.
I loved it when I saw all those "fans" filing out of the stadium early last Sunday. They finally showed their true colors. & booing when your team is losing it's first regular season game in 21 tries???? NO CLASS.
I think we should acknowledge a point of clarification there are old time Pats, Jets, Bills fans that have been with the teams through thick & thin like many of us Dolphin fans. To a degree those guys have have followed the Pats through the 70's on to today don't deserve to be lumped with those prick holes that jumped on the bandwagon in the last decade.
I agree, however, grouping them with Yankee or Jet fans is uncalled for. They are the epitomy of classless only topped by Eagle fans IMO. I just can't buy that they are worse than NY fans. I visited NE 2 years ago for a game and had very little problems with their fans being aggressive. There were some but you'll find that everywhere. On the contrary you'll find obnoxious Jet fans mouthing off and trying to start fights in Miami at the games. Also while attending a NY Yankee/Boston game in NY 2 Yankee fans simply spit on my friends Boston shirt as we were simply standing in line talking to each other. As for booing their own players, they'll boo anyone at any moment. Almost no one compares to classless NY fans.
I agree with this. I know 1 guy who is a Pats fan who grew up in Conn. & has been a fan all of his life. Even back when they sucked. I give him credit for sticking with his team. But most of the people I know who have Pats hats & jerseys will admit that they started paying attention when the team started winning. I guess there will always be bandwagon jumpers. Like Texas said, Giants merch will probably start selling now.
I enjoyed reading that! One of the highlights of sundays game was seeing their fans' faces stunned in the crowd, listening to them boo at halftime, then boo again when cassell threw an incomplete pass... then the icing on the cake... watching them fleeing the stadium just after the start of the 4th quarter. Priceless... just Priceless. Its like i said to my dad during the game... it looks good on them. Id be willing to bet half of the people in that stadium have only been pats "fans" since 2001. The pats loose one game and they turn on their team... we loose 15 last year, and were all still here. and were there sunday cheering our team on as we whooped them!!!
Never really had any experience with Yankee fans, but I agree that Jet fans are probably the absolute worse when it comes to being obnoxious (apologies to any un-obnoxious Jet fans out there). And, the fans in Philly did boo Santa.
I take total offense to that statement. I`m a NYer born and raised and while I love the Yankees and despise the Jets I must say I`ve been to many other stadiums (Raiders,Eagles,Patriots many times),and the fan base here by comparison is rough but fair. Other teams fans are far worse than NY fans in many regards. I`ve witnessed it first hand. We`re not angels here by no means but it`s worse elsewhere.
One thing i can say about our fans is that we dont boo to that level, you will hear a smattering of them from time to time, but not once last year did we boo our team off the field. we have never been like that...and considering the state of this franchise the past decade one would think we'd have every right too. I think we have stayed pretty patient. LETS ROCK OUR STADIUM FOR THAT CHARGER GAME YA'LL
while the philadelphia fans maybe be 'classless' they are some of the truest fans i've seen. these disgruntled a-holes you see are still going to the games after all these years of no title in ANY sport. (though i think the Soul might have won recently). every team has its classless fans, every team has bandwagon fans. we can say we're better than pats fans bc we have no bandwagoners, but just watch what'll happen in 3 years when we're at the top of the division, we'll have plenty of bandwagoners. this article was a bit over the top. i mean, yes, it was a crude move to boo and leave early, but i've seen a lot of that already this year, the pats aren't the only ones. and, honestly, just because they have been great, doesn't mean the fanbase shouldn't be allowed to criticize a piss poor performance. wouldn't we get upset if an opposing team was running the same formation over and over again with no good defensive changes to compensate for it? bah, i absolutely hate standing up for pats fans, but cut them a little slack, their season is tanking and you know it, i know it, and they know it. let them boo.
Well I guess you are too young to remember the times that Marino was booed. I remember them, there weren't a whole lot, but he got it but good a few times from the fans. David Woodley got it a number of times that I remember as well. DolFans, well we've had our moments too. As for last Sunday, that was so satisfying, especially after the blowout in Miami last year. To turn around and embarass them in front of their own fans, was very, very gratifying indeed.
sorry but it is what it is. I'm not making this up, it comes from personal experience. Living in S. FL. you get plenty of opportunity to witness the antics of NYers. I'm not saying all of you are that way but I'm telling you now from personal experience, Jet fans are the worst I've seen at our stadium by far second only to the Philly fans. Also the most obnoxious people you'll come across in S. FL. are transplants from NY.
The booing happens everywhere. It's just a reaction to fans that want their team to do well. It's why I have to laugh a little when I see these threads pop up about us supposedly having the worst fans in the league because some people leave early or because they hear some boos. We have definitely had our moments as a fan base but this is just another example of how it does happen everywhere. You always will have that element. Some fan bases though will do it more often and at any opportunity. Hence the Pats fan example in this article where their fans are booing a perenial powerhouse team that just lost it's first game in quite awhile. It's a bit too early for boos to be ringing down. As to the game beeing satisfying, embarrassing them at home...... you couldn't be more on the money. I've been able to crack a smile everyday since thinking about it.
The problem is that the Pats were humiliated by a 1 - 15 team, not just beaten but humiliated. The fans probably feel humiliation too now that their darlings of the NFL have been brought back to earth and given some of their own medicine from last year. They have also found out their coach is not so fantastic and can be outcoached and embarrassed in the regular season, not just in the superbowl.
How many of you know a Patriots fan that's been a fan longer than 5 years or so? Anyone? Sure they exist. But ask the majority of Patriots fans if they know who Steve Grogan is and they'll return your query with a blank stare. And one devastating loss is all it takes to shake the loyalty of a bandwagon fan. They are already seeing if they can get store credit at Dick's to trade in their Brady jersey for a Romo jersey. I sat there after the game with my cellphone in hand trying to think of any real Patriots fans I could talk some smack to. I came up empty. For those of you who contend we are the worse fan base in the NFL, I give you Patriots fans.
As I said before, I only know one true Pats fan. He's lifelong. I gave him hell on Monday. The rest that I know are come-latelies who wouldn't know Grogan from Horace Ivory. I used to hate seeing Grogan thread his way downfield. Way bad memories.
i lived in boston for 4 years. i know PLENTY of lifer pats fans. i also know plenty of bandwagoners. i'm not gonna rehash the points i already made though. every team that does well has bandwagon fans, how hard is it for people to come to grips with that? we wouldn't be any different
It's not hard to come to grips with. It's true it happens with every team. Doesn't change the fact that they are terrible fans and deserve to be ridiculed no matter which team they cheer for. How hard is that for you to come to grips with? When these teams come down to earth and the bandwagon fans disperse, it's time for real fans like us who struggle through good and bad times to point and laugh. Because next week they'll have Cowboy jerseys on and they'll be proud again.
I think pride comes from seeing something through to completion. They will be cocky & arrogant & full of themselves, but if they're proud of themselves, they are truly dissillusioned douchebags.
thats fine just so long as you realize that there are true pats fans as well. i feel like a lot of people are just lumping them all together, which isn't really fair, that's all. believe me i had plenty of fun giving the bandwagon pats fans all that crap back this week that i just took from them the past couple years.
Bandwagoners are great. Back in the day, in my early phins years down here, if anyone was wearing an nfl jersey odds are it would be either an Emmit Smith, Jerry Rice or a Dan Marino. The phins were pretty popular down here when he was around. (That's not why I chose them though, I was 7 and I liked dolphins – the rest is history ) Now to see a phins jersey is nigh impossible even at our local gridiron games. For the record never saw anyone in a pats jersey. During the greatest show on turf era I asked a guy who was wearing an Isaac Bruce jersey if he was a Rams fan and he stared at me blankly, I'm not sure he knew what he was wearing lol. Imo the whole blow out win is made so much better by them booing and walking out. Filing out en mass, I haven't laughed so hard in years, and our phins did that . But you can't blame them for not wanting to be seen on television supporting a team who was just blown out in a game where the score line, by all rights, should have been reversed. Here's to fickle pats fans and their entertainment value
I will NEVER forget that immortal chant after one CERTAIN game......................SAMMY SUKS.........SAMMY SUKS.........SAMMY SUKS
I think the opponent the Pats were playing clearly enhanced the annoyance of Sunday's loss. As I was walking out of Foxboro (yes, I was there) I heard NUMEROUS people say "I can't believe we lost to the worst team in the NFL" That quote in itself is the reason why they were so upset. Nevermind that we were the worst team in the NFL LAST year and not this year, but we crushed them on their own field. So the "worst team" logic doesn't fly. The writer of the article was right when he said the fans there dont know as much as they think. The analysis from the fans sitting next to me would have made many on this board cringe (or laugh).
what a glorious day.. the only thing that could have been better would for me to be at the game with you.. well done bro.
True, one of the most embarassing moments in DolFan history. It was true, but no need to embarass the guy
Reefer I nearly threw the remote at the TV on Monday when some putz on an ESPN talk show, was bemoaning the fact that the NE fans were booing, that "I thought they had the most sophisticated football fans up there in Boston". I was like Are you joking ? Just because you live in "Baaaaaaastan" it makes you a better fan ? Why is that ? Something in the effing water ? I was apoplectic NFL fans are basically the same everywhere, except in NY and Philly were the fans have well deserved reputations, won by years of odious and abhorrent behavior. That accent that NY's have alone is just detestable sounding
one word came to mind when i was watching belicheat on the sidelines...KARMA. same thing when i was watching the patsies fans leaving with 14 minutes left. you just KNOW they were some of the folks last year taking up for belicheat when he was running up scores on teams. sweet...so sweet!
Classic. But I live up here now. These fans are no where near as classless as Jets or Yankees or Eagles fans. ANyone who thinks so hasn't really seen them. Having said that, they are still northeastern sports fans. You go into the stadium with a Miami jersey on and you take your chances. THere is definitely a gradient of sports fans in this country. West coast fans (outside of dumbass raiders fans) are more laid back, not very abrasive. Midwesterners are passionate about their football (pittsburgh, cleveland and cincinnati (not Indy, those fans suck)) but they won't do anything except throw ice cubes and popcorn at you. NE coast fans will actually get pissed off seeing you wear the other teams jersey in there stadium And yes, I've been to stadiums in every part of the country, not just talking out my arse.
The PATS fans should have STAYED at the DOLPHINS game and gave their TEAM a STANDING CHEER until every player left the game. They rocked the NFL for 21 straight games and what do their fans do...? LEAVE IN THE 3rd QTR!!! That is just plain sad for a team that has dominated the NFL for a VERY LONG time. Even if they did not win the last 10 in a row SUPERBOWLS...damn well everybody thought they might win it all every year.
