This weekends version touches on several Dolphin topics.
To begin with Marino thinks Chad Henne has too much ability to give up on.There is also some skepticism about the new coaching hires
There is more about the possible signings of Logan Mankins and Brad Smith .Read more: http://www.miamiherald.com/2011/01/29/2041415_p2/florida-marlins-hanley-ramirez.html#ixzz1CU3qvJ00

Tuff to argue with "Dan The Man" about a QB. I did not know that Brad Smith was a FA. I think he would be a good fit in adding a real threat on kicks, and would add some teeth to the wild cat.
-
Dan has a twitter account now http://twitter.com/DanMarino

Wouldn't mind either signing at the right price.
I wouldn't mind Smith lining up in a traditional QB type role with the run option but I'm kind of tired of the wildcat to be honest. It's not because I don't like the concept of an unbalanced line or anything it's just that teams have figured it out. Even if he were to pull QB duties from it and a WC play was called it would have to be effective. Essentially last season and maybe even the season before a bit it was just a loss of down. -
Uh oh, Dan. You just signed up for HenneHomer.com, too.... where you can join the rest of us strokers. Massive amount of sarcasm. :glare:

I haven't had much time to visit the Heat forum but, things will ease up in the next week. -

If we picked up Mankins, that would be crucial!
-
not sure about henne. mankins tho would be huge for any team. if the dolphins get him they could have the best o line in the nfl

So Marino reinforces the same things I've been saying all along
“He has the potential to be a starter and win in this league, and he showed that already."
“The kid’s worked hard, he’s had to deal with a lot, and he’s going to grow from that,’’
Henning and Lee were on a path of destruction with our young QB. He has been through a lot indeed.
I would love for the impatient whiny Henne haters to dispute that. :lol:ToddsPhins and Coral Reefer like this. -
What did you expect him to say ? Dan will not create such drama by being critical at this time. He's not dumb and knows the last thing this organization needs, with all the embarrassment of the coaching searches this offseason, is to create drama with headlines that the greatest Dolphin QB of all time doesn't think Henne is the answer.
He's not going to create yet another black eye to this organization after yet another a dismal season, 1-7 at home , with a possibility of low attendance in the stands next year as people are already up in arms why sparano was retained and with all the inexperienced position coaches.gunn34 likes this. -
If we added Mankins, Smith, and a Safety? Draft an RB and lets rock and roll.
-
Mankins next to Long would seriously be an awesome pairing. Talk about shifting the majority of your running game behind those 2.
-
These are 2 different issues.
He played in the league and mastered the position.
I think he's got a good feel of what to look for in a QB.
Not saying he could or could be a scout or anything but to assume he can't watch another QB and look at crucial aspects of his game to project whether they have certain skills or not that show promise is just unfounded completely.
Secondly, as much as Marino went "on instincts" he also had full ability to change plays at the line of scrimmage to whatever he wanted.
You think a QB gets that ability if he can't read defenses or coverages? It's always puzzled the hell out of me how some claim Marino did nothing but "go on instinct" and supposedly had little ability to read defenses. It's silly.
Thirdly, what Marino has said of Henne really dosen't require any special "scouting" skills.
A number of us have seen the same things in Henne while adding those positives to how much actual experience he's had the conclusion Marino came to is a pretty simple deduction anyway.54Fins likes this. -

Mankins has to be top priority. If the Dolphins were looking to trade for him, you have to believe they'll make a hard run at him.
-
i'm actually not that huge a fan of Mankins. I think he'll be too expensive relative to his worth. This is a guy that really gets exposed in the playoffs. Is he good yeah but he is not elite by any stretch. i would personally be more in favor of going after Pouncey in the draft or a player of similar ability in free agency who comes at half or a third of the price. Keeping us in a disciplined cap philosophy is going to be critical as we go forward the next few years and our young players start coming up for new contracts. I dont want to start panicking and overpaying for players

They were his backup QB's
:loser: -
Dan sure didn't sound like a Henne supporter at the half of each CBS game, and he never disagreed when the other studio guys were hammering Henne.

Michael Jordan, the best basketball player of all time, was an abject failure when it came to scouting talent and putting a team together.
Marino = great QB =/= great QB evaluator. I agree with Raf on this one.
Henne has skills, but hes been in the league for long enough to see him and he hasn't really showed anything special imo. Queue the Henne Homers claiming I'm a Henne Hater.Fin D likes this. -
So where are all the Henne haters at? Cat got your tongue.

I don't see him improving at all...I'm over him. I never thought he would be good coming out. Gave him the benefit of the doubt and 3 years later...I'm done.... -

Unlike you apparently, some of us other fans can come to a conclusion and opinion on our own.
Are you still backing the Pat White pick? After all, he was selected by people that know a lot more about football then you or I.
Marino is an all-time great. But ive already formed my opinion. Had I not had an opinion one way or the other, it may help me form one. But...I have...gunn34 likes this. -
i think its quite funny, and childish that this forum seems to be split into henne haters and homers. gotta have something to argue about and call each other names at the same time.

You know I think its amazing how Henne gets thrown under the bus. Anybody want to tell me what player on offense this year looked good?? Who actually looked good on offense this year. I really can't think of one player. Ronnie and Ricky looks like crap. The offensive line wasn't very good. Marshall had an ok year with 1000 yards but not many TD's. The rest of the recievers looked average.
Now were not calling for the heads of the rest of these players, I just think you have to look at the offensive system that was just set up for failure. Henning's system made some good players look average this year.
Thats over now, lets see what we can do this year, with hopefully a new real system. -
The same Henne lover keeps doing whatever he can to convince himself that he's right. Pathetic really. We all have our opinions but it's started to look like you are Chad himself.
-
never a good thing to get drawn
into a discussion about a Dolphin Icon
or his opinions
just think about it... -
-
Dan isn't that great as far and analysis goes...He's not really that great a host either.
I don't blame him, per sey.....It's like...When you have X much of god given, just...*it*
you may be the least qualified to judge others. -
Friend HardKoreXXX:
well spoken, simple & right on the money -
would never question his ability to play the position
as a matter of fact
I'm not questioning anything he says or does as a retired dolphin icon.
just, think about it
you're capable of coming to your own conclusions
end of thread for me -

Bottom line is Marino knows Henne deserves and will get another shot after all that went down with Henning and Lee.
I know it makes the irrational Henne haters pissed off to hear but it will happen.
We still have to find out if he can be salvaged after the damage that was caused from those two.
At least now we have a hands on OC who will work on his development. -
