A few thoughts shared by Dolphins general manager
Jeff Ireland at a team charity event this weekend:
On finding a veteran running back to pair with
Daniel Thomas: “We’ve talked about getting a speed back, but I can’t rule out having another big back either.”
On rookie center
Mike Pouncey: “That was something [coach
Tony Sparano] and I talked about for a long time — when you don’t have a great center, it can hold you hostage.”
Ireland — obviously intent on adding another quarterback — said he is “looking for really big things from linebacker
Koa Misi,”
whom he sees as starter-quality; called defensive line the team’s
strength; and said “one of the reasons we went to this new [offensive]
scheme is to get more athletes on the field.”
Ireland has been
studying players — including from “Florida and Ohio State” who could be
available in the July supplemental draft (meaning UF safety
Janoris Jenkins, who might go to North Alabama instead, and the Buckeyes’
Terrelle Pryor).
Whether Ireland adds a safety will “depend on what acorn falls off the tree.
Reshad Jones has shown he has ball-hawking ability, but I thought
Chris Clemons did a nice job there. Chris has got to get his hands on more balls.”
