Wallace isn’t the only Dolphins receiver who angered the coaches in the final weeks. Rishard Matthews told me he was de-activated against Minnesota for disciplinary reasons. He declined to elaborate beyond saying it had nothing to do with tardiness, an issue that resulted in him being fined in previous years.

Matthews said he wasn’t given a reason for why he wasn’t active against the Jets.

Matthews said during the offseason that he and Joe Philbin had settled their issues and were on the same page. Might those issues have returned now? “It might have caused some things,” Matthews said, without elaborating.

But Matthews said his de-activation “wasn’t unfair. It was the right decision.”

Does he want to return here? “I’m up for anything.”

I think Hickey won't cut bait because Matthews is inexpensive. If he doesn't get playing time, he probably won't be re-signed. That's a shame though because he's going to go to Green Bay and tear up the NFC North.

Rishard Matthews gets the back-up treatment. He's far from perfect and we'd be wanting to upgrade if he was one of our starters, but I'd still like to have seen more of the guy.

I just don't understand how guys like Brandon Gibson and Rishard Matthews are on the roster but aren't more a part of the action. Same thing on defense. We have guys like Tripp and Fede who rarely see playing time.

    Ugh...frustrating.

It's not like he's a rookie though. He's had a lot of time and multiple coaches who he could've impressed enough to get playing time.

I get what you're saying but you're not thinking about the bone-headed drops that pop up here and there.

I like his size but I don't think he's proven to be anything special. I would've like to have seen him more though. He should have been an asset to us this season I think. Gibson and Hartline both should've been bigger threats for this offense.

I don't think Bill Lazor is as good as people make out. Wallace had 10 TDs for example, but that was the result of getting a lot of attention. Hartline and Gibson both got less attention as a result and they're both probably better fit to this offense, as if Matthews.

I'm actually starting to think we should get rid of Wallace despite the costs involved.
