Sports Buzz draft notes 3/27/13

I know a lot of people here have been clamoring for Marquess Wilson. I don't think the drafting of a receiver would automatically mean trouble for Davone Bess.

Glad they're doing their homework on these guys, especially Marquess Wilson. They're good players.

I know I'm obviously a huge Austin fan first and foremost but I'd be ecstatic to see us draft Patterson to groom opposite Wallace and transition Hartline to the slot as Patterson settles into the position.

..... or trade back into the first for Austin. Wallace-Austin-Patterson looks like a bright future. :shifty:

Jftr..Wilson displayed the most punkish disrespectful behavior I've seen from a player on a football field..it was disgusting...there is a reason why the dude has dropped like a bad habit, just like I thought he would.

Yet, you support the idea of not only drafting a dope smoking, potential drug dealer that openly admits he can't stay out of trouble unless he has someone to baby sit him, but spending a relatively high pick on the guy.

IMO, Omar Kelly's article on what Joe Philbin is looking for in a player pretty much means there is a zero percent chance that either Wilson or Mathieu are Miami Dolphins come the end of April.

Irelands comments today did nothing to diffuse the rabid speculation on the boards that he might go WR at 12.

So much fun this time of year.

I guess Marquess Wilson needed to have an ESPN segment or two done on him where he could shed some crocodile tears and talk about how many lessons he's learned. Then that would make everything OK.

I wonder if the difference was Wilson toiling for unheralded Washington State out on the high plains of Eastern Washington, sort of out of the limelight of major sports media...as opposed to Mathieu playing for one of the most high profile major college football programs?

Mike Williams quit Syracuse. He seems to be doing just fine.

You know how many professional athletes there are that at one point decided to quit their program and transfer to another one?

Not so much, one was an impact player in the toughest conference in the semi pro league, the other was a Wr who put up numbers and they are not that hard to find.

Still, there is -0- chance imo, that either wind up on Philbin's roster..which imo is a mistake, a coach who won't take chances on players with talent is a limited coach who lacks a broad skillset in motivating players imo.

Interesting that Greg Cosell rates Barkley as a 4th rd talent.

Because he was one their best players, Leach singled him out and made an example out of him. There is no call for that. Leach is just a jerk with a massive ego. A good coach treats all the players equally.

1. From what we've heard about Philbin, I agree there is about a 0% chance either Mathieu or Wilson gets drafted by Miami.
2. That has to be one of the most ridiculous things I've ever heard. IMO, Barkley is the best QB in this draft without a doubt.

I really doubt the Dolphins are going to grab either Marquess Wilson or Tyrann Mathieu. Joe Philbin seems like he's taking a greater hand in the personnel doings (he's literally stated this, I'm not just pulling it out of thin air), and so you could see the issue of character go from like a 7 in importance to like a 9.

I know it's an expression but I have to think you're way over reacting to his Barkley ranking. It's not as if he predicted Barkley would go in the 4th round, just that he has him rated in that range. Barkley's rankings have been all over the map. He may be the best QB (I don't agree) in this draft but that's like arguing over who's the skinniest kid at fat camp. If he made that comment last year about Luck it would be "the most ridiculous statement" I've ever heard

It's a pretty ridiculous statement. You say Barkley's grades are all over the map but that's not really true. Many believe Matt Barkley is worth a 1st round pick and the ones that don't pretty much think he's worth a 2nd round pick.

A better comparison would be if someone a year ago was saying that Ryan Tannehill is worth only a 4th round pick. That year pretty clearly you had some people who thought Tannehill worth a 1st round pick, and some people saying he's really a 2nd round pick that will get pushed into the 1st round based on needs and reaching.
