CrunchTimeretired_adminOPAs the Dolphins prepare for another major offseason transition, four bright football minds were asked to evaluate Miami’s roster beyond quarterback (where everyone knows an upgrade is needed).
Here’s some of the feedback from Lombardi; Williamson; Ken Herock, a former longtime executive with the Packers, Saints and Falcons; and ESPN’s Jaworski:
• Receiver: Two issues were raised — Brandon Marshall’s falloff and the belief, expressed by Lombardi and Williamson, that the Dolphins need another starting receiver better than Brian Hartline.
“Everyone starts with the premise that Marshall is an elite receiver,” Herock said. “But he’s not because he’s not consistent.”
The group is “just average,” Jaworski said. “Marshall and Davone Bess are better than they’re playing.”

“They want Reggie Bush to be their big playmaker, but he’s not,” Lombardi said.
• Offensive line: “Right tackle is a massive need — Marc Colombo is a terrible player,” Williamson said. “I don’t understand why Vernon Carey seems to be going backward. You can win with Richie Incognito at left guard. Jake Long doesn’t look like the dominant player he was when he entered the league, but you’re set for years there and at center” with Mike Pouncey.
For me the following two statements say it all
Said ESPN’s Ron Jaworski: “I’ve studied this team and there is some good talent there. My opinion is they’re underperforming. There’s enough talent to be a very competitive team.”
Last word to Herock: “They don’t have a clue how to build a team. What does it take to win? A quarterback. Until you get one and start drafting key players, you’re a ways away.”

I'm sure that a qualified football exec. could seperate the the real talent from the fakers for paychecks at the posts they occupy. I'm quite sure many of the people listed blow...have'nt a clue and are below football...IQ...to eveluate anthything above "pop warner".

AquafinNew MemberI completely agree with Williamson our receivers are just average. the sad thing is that many fin fans thought Bess would be just as good of a wr as Welker was and I have to say if that was true then Bess would be a pro bowl wr . Hartline seems faster but I dont feel all that good about him either. If I could have three things it would be this for the offense.
#1 qb Luck tightend ? need 2 tightends imo , Blackmon , Broyles and Hartline and one more wr, Ronnie brown caliber back and a right tackle similar to Richmond Webb.

How do you think it would pan out if Welker and Bess switched teams? I think Bess would be really productive in that NE offense. I think he would be less productive than Welker but not by too much.

well mbmonk thats a good question but I will say that Bess might put up better numbers their but since we run a run first offense I would be interested in seeing what these guys could do if roles where reversed or if both guys were on the same team.
To be honest Welker is from my area and we all love the guy so I be a little biased . it would be great to have Bess and Welker on the near side and Marshall and Blackmon on the oposite and then have a big full back in the backfield to block .
they had a discusion on who's offense in the nfl scares defenses and our offense hasnt scared anyone since the 80's or early 90's

In a little over 3 games with Henne, Hartline had 13 catches, 200 yards, and 0 drops. In almost 4 games with Moore, he has 5 catches for 56 yards, and 3 drops (all in the Jets game).
Many disagree but I like Hartline.

Put him back at RT, have his fat ass get on a serious diet and see what it does for him. Honestly I think it could do wonders and he could turn it around.
Carey doesn't seem to care anymore when he moved to RG.
Bring this man back into the fold if you want some real leadership on this team.
NFL Golden Rule - Unless and until you have a top 10 QB, the #1 priority of the organization should be to obtain a top 10 QB.
That has not been the priority of the Dolphins organization since Marino.
Therefore we have sucked since Marino.

JajNew MemberI'll tell you what's interesting about Reggie Bush. If you were to compile his stats out of I-Formation both in college and in the NFL his stats would very likely look much better than they are in the spread. It's a simple thing. In the spread you need a quick power move, running against the interior of the DL which has been emptied out. That's not Reggie Bush. What made Bush so dangerous as a runner was his ability to beat slow personnel to the boundaries with USC's WRs providing him strong blocking. He needs that FB to give him the time to beat players to protect him. He had for the first time on Sunday and he was excellent. He had solid second-level blocking and he was excellent.
I wouldn't toss Bush in the trash-bin just yet. In fact I'd go get him a better full back.

OnehondosubscriberI think Bush is not used effectively to suit his abilities. Hartline would probably be another story like Welker if he went somewhere like New England. And definitely, YES, we need a 1st round QB to give us the best chance for a "franchise" quarterback.

In fact there were a number of us saying these exact things before the season started and were getting ribbed pretty hard I might add for "thinking we knew more than professionals paid to build a team". LMAO.
This stuff all falls on the GM.
The disaster of an OL and bringing in a sub par OT in order to move an aging and slow OT to Guard to fix the Guard position.
Bringing in Reggie Bush and expecting him to be an every down back.
Cutting both Brown, Williams and not going after another FA back.
Refusing to even consider possible upgrades at either TE or 2nd WR.
Not addressing one of the glaring needs on Defense at pass rusher and safety.
This offseason was a cluster.... and it didn't take being a professional personnel man to see it.
That's the sad part.
