Of the four rookie linebackers, it wouldn’t be surprising if one or two make the final 53. “We were very lucky to get all four,” said Duffner, who cultivated relationships with all four before the draft.
Vigil made several good plays in pass coverage during the team’s offseason program. Luc, once a five-star recruit out of high school who transferred from FSU to Cincinnati, “has physicality, really good movement skills,” Duffner said.
Christion Jones, Alabama. The three undrafted rookie receivers --- Jones, Kansas’ Nigel King and Maine’s Damarr Aultman --- are all long shots for the 53-man roster, but Jones might have the best chance because of his return skills.
Linemen. All seven are major long shots to make the 53, but a couple could end up on the practice squad. On defense, that group includes Georgia defensive end Ray Drew, Bowling Green defensive end Kendall Montgomery and UCLA defensive tackle Ellis McCarthy.

I think that Ray Drew is flying under the radar, solid player who can help us as a physical 4/3 DE with pass rushing ability. I think that he's got a good shot to make the final 53, at the least he'll be on the PS I would think.

Give me Vigil and Hull, I'd be ecstatic!
Seriously reading about Hull, if you take out his name and "undrafted" it is EXACTLY all the same stuff said about Zach Thomas.dolfan7171 likes this. -
For like the 8th straight year, it won't be Juan Huron.

IMO, I think Vigil and Christion Jones probably have the best shots to make the 53 man roster. Should be interesting to watch as Miami kept 5 UDFAs on the opening roster last year - Darkwa, Williams, Hoskins, Johnson, and McCain. Obviously 3 of them are still here and one, McCain, is a projected starter. Williams was a nice receiver out of the backfield and I think Anthony Johnson warrants keeping around in some capacity as a developmental guy.

i don´t know, i still don´t get the hype about these Linebackers we picked up after the draft....probably tough to shine in shorts as a LB , but they have to start to flash soon after camp opens

When preseason starts I wouldn't at all be surprised to see LB Jeff Luc making noise on the field. He can produce the kind of hits that get you noticed. He would probably be my choice above Hewitt, Mike Hull or Zach Vigil.
At the WR position I think it would have to be between Christion Jones and Damarr Aultman. I've seen them both on tape and Aultman reminds me a lot of Troy Brown. But Jones probably has a background that translates better and more quickly into immediate production in the NFL preseason. Jones is pure short striding agility, quintessential returner type.
The other guy to watch out for, one of my favorite UDFAs overall, is DL Ray Drew. I'm curious how they're going to use him but he can really excel as an interior rusher. Good size/strength/explosiveness combination. If he gets playing time in preseason situations where the other team has to start passing to try and come back on the scoreboard, and the Dolphins have Ray Drew rushing the interior in those situation, fair chance you see him make some splash plays.
There have been posters on here that like OL Michael Liedtke a lot. I have no opinion. -
I'm pulling for Tim Semisch to unseat Arthur Lynch at 3rd TE, we already know Cameron and Sims are locks at 1 and 2.
-
Tim Semisch has good body control and movement but ultimately he's slow as molasses. I'm not a fan of Arthur Lynch but at least he brings some really good wing blocking to the table. I'm not sure what to expect out of Semisch.

I'm not a big fan of four-star and three-star recruiting as an indicator of future pro potential, but five-star recruiting is different. I pay attention to those, and that's what kind of prospect Jeff Luc was coming out of high school. He got caught up in a Florida State linebacking unit that was stacked with legitimate pro linebackers, guys like Nigel Bradham, Christian Jones, Vince Williams and Telvin Smith. All of them are pros and some of them are already standouts (Nigel Bradham and Telvin Smith). Luc went off to Cincinnati because things weren't working out at Florida State, took a year getting into the rotation and getting used to the new defense, and became one of the most productive linebackers in the country in his second year playing there.
That's really not a terrible track to be coming from. Pros come from that background. He's a 6'1" & 256 lbs wrecking ball and that's what Coyle loves at that MLB position. And Luc is definitely a run-and-hit guy. He's got legit 4.6 speed. He can chase plays from his spot in the middle all the way to the sideline. So I think like I said there is a good chance that during the preseason he produces some memorable hits. I don't know if he's Mark Duffner's favorite but it wouldn't be a far stretch of the imagination to project Luc as the guy Kevin Coyle will take a shine toward.Wyvern_Bob, Ohio Fanatic, Fin4Ever and 4 others like this. -

Then broken them again all subsequent years...

The UDFA LB's are my biggest watch priority this pre-season. Even if only one of the three show promise, that's still a big win.

I am impressed however, that he actually managed to steal Bolt's girlfriend shortly after the race.Silverphin and Colorado Dolfan like this. -
Luc, at his very best, will become another Tim Dobbins. Dobbins played several years in the NFL and made a few bucks but was never really effective..
He was fast and destructive like a train, but when it has to go off it's tracks it just wrecks. He won't be capable of making open field tackles against RB's or slot receivers, not without help. He might make some highlight type plays on ST's when someone else forces the returner onto his train tracks. -
-
I'd like to see him lighter and more agile.
I went to the tape kind of expecting a Zach Thomas kind of nose for the ball, but he's just that little bit slower in diagnosing the offense and that little bit slower in getting there. -
-
No.. That's Juan Valdez! -
Lol..you are right of course...well I don't remember a Juan Huron and since lmeister said it...I can't tell if it is in a joking manner, or serious..lol

For those wondering rather a 6'0 230lb Linebacker can make a difference in the middle besides Zach, who was even shorter than that......anyone remember a player named Mike Singletary? Also, I am hoping that most of you do not sleep on Jeff Luc.....First saw him at 14....playing linebacker....this kid is going to make it in the NFL...We will have to wait and see...I know Duffner likes him a lot and it will have merit with Coyle, who besides knowing DB's really well, I think he needs to depend on position coaches regarding the other defensive positions....hopefully. I also like Hull and Vigil and I am hoping that all 3 of them earn a spot.

It goes way back to the Finheaven days. It was this kid who used to post over there who posted a thread asking if we think he had a legit chance to play WR for the Dolphins. He was serious too, giving us his 40 yd dash times and how he was the best player in his little league. It made for some good laughs.
That and the notion of moving Zach Thomas to Strong Safety.

[EDIT] on top of that, guy looks like a sure tackler, certainly way better than Koa Misi. -
I haven't watched much of Luc or any of the LBs, but philosophically I would think that a smaller, fast and instinctive MLB would thrive behind our DL. You generally want the size so he can shed blocks and work through the trash. But if the DL is eating up double teams and there isn't much trash to work through then what you want is somebody who gets there fast. To me that means instincts (above all) and then speed and obviously tackling ability. Big hits will get the fans excited but great instincts is what I want to see.
I also imagine that teams will attack us with quick passes to the outside so a LB that can play sideline to sideline would help defend against that. -
