@DarrenSproles
Thank you New Orleans for your support over the past 3 years! I will always be forever grateful. #WhoDat

Philbin refused to use Reggie anywhere close to what he could have. What makes anyone think that he'd use Sproles?

No thanks. Old and expensive and doesn't fill some of the RB roles we need like short yardage.

Philbin used Reggie as well as any of his coaches.Larryfinfan, unluckyluciano, Ohio Fanatic and 2 others like this. -
I'll pass.
Past his prime. More of a pass catcher than a runner. Not the physical back we need.
Could be a great pickup for another team, but not really what Miami needs right now.ASOT likes this. -
And with Lazor on board I would assume with the way McCoy was used last year that he would want a playmaking running back like Reggie Bush. I think I rather target Dexter McCluster.Fin-Omenal likes this. -
With our luck, he ends up in New England along with Jimmy Graham.

Why do I think it's different this year? Because while I don't think Philbin is a good coach, I don't think he's stupid either. What's the point in firing Sherman, bringing in Lazor and keeping the exact same offense.steveincolorado likes this. -

Bush isn't a comparable receiver to Sproles. Bush does a couple things well, but again, there's a reason why he lost his job as a 3rd down back in NO, MIA, and he's being outproduced in the passing game in Detroit.
-
Sproles would really help lift some of the burden off the revamped offensive line. He's the ideal safety valve.
-
To all the regular folks on the board, Sherman was Philbin's first OC choice. Ever. Sherman hired him for his first NFL job. What Philbin told Sherman to do, or how to implement, didn't work. We don't know if Philbin was forced to fire Sherman but we know he wasn't fired the day after the season ended.
Ehateve offense we have next year, will be different than the one we have this past year. Hence, I'm excited to see what Lazor brings to the table. -
He was his first hire because he was a former successful NFL HC and a longtime friend. Basically, he hired the guy whose been there before so a guy who hasn't, would have someone to lean on.
Regardless, none of what I said or you said has anything to do with the inane and ignorant "Sherman= Philbin = Sherman" that you claim to be "logic".
They are not the same people, they don't have the same philosophies and they don't run the same kind of offenses.
Let's also be clear here, regardless of why Sherman was fired, Philbin chose Lazor just like he did with Sherman, so for your ridiculous notion to be true, then Lazor = Sherman= Philbin. -
Unless you're suggesting he was forced to fire Sherman by Ross ...
Lazor has his own wrinkles in WCO plus anything he may have learned from Kelly, and actually coached Reeves and Gibbs (here with Coryell variations). I'm more excited to see what he does with Tannehill with his QB experience actually.
-
Yeah, Philbin didn't purposely choose a guy with similar offensive philosophies as him. Makes PERFECT sense. I'm a west coast guy, lets hire an Air Coryell guy. Because my system sucks.
Or do you find a guy who is going to execute YOUR vision? Your first HC job in the NFL and you're not looking to execute your vision?
Actually, you might be right. Philbin may be more of a puppet than we originally thought. -
I'm fearing Sproles signing with the Patriots now too. Combine the way that he destroyed us last season with how the Pats usually gouge us with draws and screens, and its a painful thought.

Looking at GB during years under Philbin they don't throw it to RBs much. Average of 20-30 for the top pass catching RB, high of 45 with Brandon Jackson.
Last year Sproles and Thomas caught over 140 by themselves, and the saints threw it more but not a ton more. 650 vs 594.
People were clamoring for us to do the same with Thigpen after Sproles thrashed us.
Think Philbin will want Sproles? If we do, I'd have to assume it's the influence of Hickey + LazorNaboCane likes this. -
Who cares if he is 30 years old, we are not talking about a running back who has averaged over 300 carries a year like Ray Rice, Sproles should have plenty left in his tank.

I'm not seeing Sproles as a great fit at this point. We don't have a guy who can tote it between the tackles with much consistency/toughness, so I'm hoping the FO uses the backfield roster spots on finding THAT guy. Sproles is a part-time role player who isn't going to help a ton in the every-down run game. If we're going to spend veteran FA money on the backfield, I'd rather be a true RB. For a young QB, I just think a legit RB is so important...and we don't have one.

According to NFL Network, the Vikings are a possible landing spot for Darren Sproles.
Sproles hasn't officially been cut by the Saints yet as they try to trade him. But if that doesn't work, we can easily connect the dots to Minnesota. New Vikings OC Norv Turner coached Sproles in San Diego from 2007-10 and Adrian Peterson has never excelled in the pass game. -
I like Sproles on a 1-2 yr deal. He's still the best receiving back in the league. Last year, he led all RBs in yards per pass route run and didn't drop a pass all year. If my image of what Lazor will try to do is accurate, Sproles would be a great addition.
