So I got into Star Trek 5 or 6 months ago. l love the original cast, and the Next Generation as well. Im Tivoing all the old episodes. Im also trying to branch out into the other series'. Voyager seemed like the best between Deep Space Nine, and the Enterprise one with Quantum Leap man. But Voyager is pretty corny. There's a lot of unhackable characters Jar Jar binx style. Janeway rips it. That idiot chef thing rips it. The Dr. hologram dude rips it. The Vulcan is weak for a Vulcan. So...does it get better? Does it get less Mickey Mouse and more interesting when 7 of 9s joins? Does it improve after say, 2 or 3 seasons? Or should I Bag it all together, and watch one of the other spin-offs instead? I appreciate any and all input
I'm one to say that anything Star Trek is worth watching. However, like most shows it improves over time. I didn't like Neelix either and I also didn't like Chakotay but I thought that Tuvok was a pretty good Vulcan, completely passionless. I thought it was ridiculous that Neelix was made a senior officer. 7 of 9 is a fun character, sometimes humorous. What happens with Kes is also pretty interesting. Of course they have the Borg encounter. Kaplach!
I have watched star trek since I was a kid and I will say I think voyager was it's weakest one. However, the borg and the scorpions I believe they are called are fairly interesting episodes. I did like tuvok, Chakotay was kool till they made him into a big cry baby. All the rest I don't really care for.
I actually consider Voyager one of the better ST series. Voyager does get better as the series goes on, just like TNG goes from a corny Sci Fi Show season 1 to a masterpiece seasons 3-7.
i saw the one where he got tattoed, and it was okay, but the next week neelix and the sleezy pilot guy are giving birth to something that looks like a cross from enemy mine and the muppets
Well Voyager doesn't have as big of a "learning curve" as TNG since Rick Berman is already doing the series. I am not as familiar with the seasons as I am with TNG, but I like to say when Janeway lets down her hair. Overall though, the whole series is good, its just the crew gels much better. Plus the show gets interesting with their altercations with the borg. With the premise of the Voyager story you can take liberties since you are 75 years from home.
I have to disagree with you on this one. I think voyager had good episodes scattered throughout but never fully became what I would consider a "great" star trek series. Debating star trek in an online forum..........so this is rock bottom..........
Are you implying that Star Trek isn't real. Seth, something else I just remembered, have you encountered the Vidiians yet? IMO, they're one of the best enemy species in sci fi. I was really disappointed that they never had an scenes on their home world. That would have been so cool.
Voyager is my favorite of all the Star Trek series . . . likely because it was the first one I watched. I will tell you this though, outside the first season, everything improves drastically. You say you cant stand the Doctor right now, well I agree, but, he will become one of the best characters in the whole show . . . especially after Seven gets there. Tuvok and Neelix will also kind of pair up for buddy adventures, the logic vs. free spirit is really nice. Paris and Kim have some fun adventures . . . some in the holodeck . . . which are actually quite cool. As for races they encounter, things get better once the Kazon and Vadiens are out of the picture. You then have multiple episode villians like the Borg (who are the main villians in the show), the Hirogen (like Predator), and Species 8472 (which are far more powerful and malicious than the Borg). However there are some great one shot species/characters as well . . . most notably the Saurians (descendent from our Dinosaurs) and the Think Tank (a group of different species that solve problems for a price, led by Jason Alexander from Senfield). If you have any more specific questions, let me know, I will be back on tonight.
Voyager is definately not better than DS9. Switch to DS9, it has better characters, better acting, and better writing. Its different than the other Star Trek series, but once you get used to it, it much better than Voyager. Its darker, but way better...
Yeah, pretty much. It is all a matter of opinion though. Some people are going to say yay Voyager and some yay DS9. Personally I never could get into DS9, its the idea that Voyager is constantly working to get home that turns me on about that storyline.
I'm debating (to my wifes dismay) going to a convention is Secaucus in March. I mean, it must be a pretty crazy experience, and a pretty nice crowd. I'm just a ham and egger with the series, but think it could be quite interesting.
Two quick observations. 1. why isn't Picard the captain of the universe? if only the leaders in our actual gov't were such intellectual, cultured, and incorruptable men of his level of integrity! (and im still leaving out a bunch of other high compliments) 2. All officers north of captain are agenda hiding incompetents.
I liked Voyager, not as much as TNG but way more than Enterprise with QL Guy, that sucked big time, or I just couldn't get into it. I think it gets better as time goes on, but it wasn't and never got to the Next Generation's level.
I watched it off and on since season 1. I started paying attention after 7 of 9 came along. I really enjoyed the episodes that dealt with the Borg. I didn't enjoy it nearly as much as TNG & DS9, but more than Enterprise. I've never watched that one at all.
IMO, the first few seasons of DS9 were pretty bad, it only started getting good when they introduced the Dominion. One of the season finales or premieres with the Klingons attacking the station under the premise that there was a Changeling in hiding may be the single best episode in any of the series. All in all, TNG is the best. Enterprise was okay, what I didn't like was that the concept of technology design. The technology design in the original series is inferior to what we have today with touchscreens and the like. How could the prequel have technology that's not better than today's?
didnt see anyone mention chief o'brian.....didnt he go from NG to voyager? i thought that was phony, cuz you never see his wife or kid....kind of like they disappear lol
No he went to DS9 and his wife and kids (Yoshi was born on DS9, but that's another story) figured rather prominently.
