Hank Steinbrenner had a message yesterday for his Yankees: Gentlemen, it's time to get your act together. "We've got to forget about all the injuries and start playing our butts off," Steinbrenner told The New York Post. The Yankees were buried by the Rays on Monday. These are difficult days for Joe Girardi's club. "The bottom line is that the team is not playing the way it is capable of playing," Steinbrenner said. "These players are being paid a lot of money and they had better decide for themselves to earn that money." http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/...am-not-playing-up-to-its-paycheck?FSO2&ATT=MA Sounds a lot like his dad!
sounds like a good owner.....those guys get paid RIDICULOUS amounts of green, they DO need to step it up imo.....
The gross national product of Guam couldnt live up to that paycheck. Its what happens when you overpay for every injury-prone free agent on the market.
baby Steinbrenner is just a little annoying. Just a little. by 2012...he might be worthy of getting hit in the face with a brick.
Member what George W. did to the Texas Rangers some years ago? Think maybe this guy should be a little more 'hands off' and let the people who KNOW about baseball handle things.
G-dub actually is responsible for the only playoff appearance in the last 400 years for that franchise.
Hank also said his team needs to start playing like the Rays. Never thought we'd hear that one. Tampa has taken two straight from them are will trot out the their two aces the next two games.
There's something to be learned about spending for the sake of spending, but it's too obvious to point out even for me.
Injuries are a factor, but not an excuse. What he needs to remember is that they stuck with their young pitchers instead of upgrading the rotation via trade/FA. Hughes is the youngest SP in the league and he (along with Joba and Kennedy) isn't going to be a top of the rotation starter overnight. They knew this was going to be a tough year, I'm not sure why he feels the need to make public statements like that.
LOL they made the playoffs a few times in the mid 90's with Juan Gon and those guys. I dont think Dubya was runnin the show then.
