It's a good trade for you if the pick is involved. You can get a stud RB likely with that spot.

I would say that straight up, Ronnie for Slaton is a HUGE deal..but the fact that the gamble card is thrown in makes it tough.

I would wait and see who is going to be kept before i do anything. But I think I would rather have Slaton in a PPR league week to week.

 

I would only trade for Ronnie if you really feel as though he will have a huge year because of his contract and/or he should be back to 100% health. If you throw out his first game against the Pats he really wasn't a good RB to own. Otherwise, I'd keep Slaton, who has no one else taking carries from him and should get 25 touches a game. Plus the passing game to take people out of the box.

 

Dont know how the points work in your league, but I am thinking that with the huge OLINE Ronnie is going to get an incredible amount of carries this year. I really think he is gonna be the cash cow and the staff is gonna see exactly what he can do.
Does that mean he scores you tons of points? That depends on if he is carrying from our own 20 or the opposition 20 IMO.

 

Keep Slaton. He may not get the goal line carries, but he gets everything else and is a threat to score from anywhere on the field. He offers more potential receiving then Ronnie does anyway. Also, if Ronnie isn't running the Wildcat this year, that's a loss of his production. Not to mention he's going to share carries with Ricky anyway. Last year with Ronnie was hit and miss for my fantasy team.

 

I'd rather have Slaton over Brown.

 

Im not sure how good Ward will be without the Giants great run blocking OL so Id forget him for now. Too risky for a first rounder and he'll still time share with Cadillac and Ernest Graham.

The problem with your swap is that its going to leave you need two RB's since you wouldnt have kept any. So do you think you can get two good ones?

I think I would rather have Ronnie over Slaton even in a PPR league. Our OL should be significantly better next season and could be one of the top 2 or 3 in all of the NFL. Plus he doesnt lose those goalline carries like Slaton.

 

Ward may do ok but I try and stay away from those guys who could be in a serious timeshare and while Ward got some big bucks in the offseason keep in mind that NYG OL was the best in the league last year. About 225 of his yards came in one game vs Carolina and he collected about half his yards in 3 games.

As far as your team I'm assuming you will need two good RB's since you dont have one as a keeper if you deal Slaton. If the first guy takes Brown youre probably screwed as far as that goes but I like the deal. I dont think Slaton will repeat that and will end up in some kind of timeshare.

 

Depending on points for TD's and who will be available but I would tell you to keep Slaton. However if I knew who wouldbe available it would be a easier choice. Ronnie Brown will share carries with Polite, Cobbs, and Ricky. Also his wildcat carries will be trimmed and teams prepared with a whole off-season

 

That makes it kind of a no brainer knowing you can get either LT or Ronnie @ 2. And knowing you may have the option for the other one at 10 or get a young back like Wells or Moreno, though id be more inclined to take Wells I think. :up:

 

Moreno may be more talented but Denver just signed like 7 FA running backs and still has Ryan Torrain who is pretty talented.

Wells on the other hand only has Tim Hightower to compete with who I feel is only a change of pace back, a true 5-7 carry a game backup where as Wells could very easily be good for 20-25 touches. I also wouldnt be so quick to jump to the conclusion that Denver has a better OL. Lastly, I expect Denver to be picking in the top 3 next year even in that division so they may not even get a chance to give Moreno a lot of carries if they're playing from behind as often as I expect them to be losing. :wink2:

 

I want to make sure I understand this right, because the rules will definitely impact how you should go forward. In trading a keeper, you're allowed to keep a different player with that spot, right? Because if that's the case, you aren't really trading Slaton for Brown (or Tomlinson, or whoever). You're trading Slaton for Brown AND the guy you'd be keeping instead of Slaton. And that's a no-brainer for you.

However, if you lose a keeper slot by dealing Slaton, then I wouldn't do it. Slaton is a better fantasy RB than Brown, and I'd take him over Tomlinson, too.

 

Then you shouldn't make the trade. Slaton will be a better fantasy player than Brown this year.

Even without getting goalline carries. But you're really going to buy Chris Brown as a major impediment to Slaton's value? The dude gets a hangnail and misses a month. Slaton got 9 TD last year, just one less than Ronnie did. And for what it's worth, he didn't have a 1 game explosion that inflated his stats.

Look, I love Ronnie as much as anyone, but giving up Slaton for him is a move that only a serious homer would make. And homerism has no place on your fantasy team.

i'd take slaton any day.. i had him last year as a rookie... i took major crap for it ....

they had the same amount of td's last year 10... slaton is only a 2nd year back .. ronnie will have a good year but slaton beat him in every possible category last year except td's which they tied

 

Most people dont realize this, but Steve Slaton produced more rushing yards, more receptions, more receiving yards, and equal TDs to Chris Johnson last year.

Id take Slaton over Ronnie in FFB.
