I'm stealing GISH's idea. Steve Smith, WR $7,000,000 Yes, Smith is getting older and yes, Smith brings a hefty contract with him...but he is still a productive receiver when he has a QB with the skill set greater than a 7 year old throwing to him. It's kind of hard to do much when you have Matt Moore and Jimmy Clausen running your offense throughout the year. Yes, there is a reserve price. I won't announce it, but it's reasonable because I factor in his age and salary. If the reserve is not met, then I'm going to have to hold onto him, because he still has value to this franchise. What am I looking for in return? Draft picks. I will listen to all offers though. Other than draft picks, I am looking for a backup RB, a starting TE, and receivers. But, mainly...I am in need of draft picks and I value picks more than players usually. Best offer that lasts 24 hours wins. (If reserve is met) gogogo
he said he wants draft picks and you make him an offer where he loses draft picks and takes on more salary than he's losing? wtf?
For me, it isn't. Freeney has never played in a 3-4 before (I'm converting to a 3-4) and right now my needs are draft picks, WR, TE, and a backup RB as stated. And...Freeney will cost me $4mil more than Smith.
How much would your scheme be dropping Freeney in coverage? If you do what Denver did, you're looking at about 5 snaps in coverage over the course of an entire season. Not every 3-4 is the same.
I don't want Freeney. He costs 11+ mil, aging, and he's a true 4-3 DE. I am not really gameplanning or thinking about how I am going to scheme my 3-4 defense...I'm just trying to bring in guys that would naturally fit a 3-4.
Chill, I wasn't forcing him on him. I was simply asking a question. I'll keep in mind that there is a hall monitor the next time I ask a question.
You were pushing Freeney on him like he was YOUR player, he set u straight so I have no further comments.
Relax people, its not that serious. Knowing Alen, I dont think he meant anything by it, he just enjoys finding ways to utilize players within a given scheme.
Whatever, were going to the mattresses.....he was trying to cheat and I now need a valium to channel my anger.
I wasn't pushing him on anyone. I asked the guy what he was running and I told him that he could find a way to use Freeney. Whatever though, I don't really care.
? I said in the original post that there is a reserve price. If I hadn't, then I would have dealt Smith for the 5th. But I am smart enough to know that he is worth something, regardless of age and salary, so I put a min reserve. If you guys still want to go after Smith, then we can negotiate via PM. But, I'm fine with keeping him if I don't get enough back for him. He is still one of the more productive receivers in the league when he has a QB with any ability to throw him the ball.
why keep the reserve price a secret though? i think auction trades are dumb as **** and nothing like them happens in real life. but at least if your going to have one, and you have a reserve price. announce it so people dont waste their time.
So then dont call it an auction...call it a way to up the price for smith. I wouldnt move more then a 5th for him anyway given that salary and apparently no one else would either but I think its silly whether its you or anyone else to have an auction with a reserve. Either you have an auction or you dont. In a true auction you start the minimum bid at the minimum required to win the bid. Thats how the auctions should be conducted if we are going to have them.
I doubt anyone really wasted any time, taking 5 seconds to post "5th rounder." I don't announce the reserve price, because I could get better value than it. Say I set the reserve price to a 6th round and announced it. I can assure you Boik would not have bid a 5th round pick. My plan is to get the best value out of a player and trade him for the most I can get...not the least I would trade for him. I actually got a late 4th round pick for him in an offer and a couple other offers that are valued more than a 5th. Still not worth it. Not necessarily. Many auctions have private reserves. Someone that flips cars wouldn't throw a lambo up without a reserve price, with the risk of it going for 35 cents. There are private reserve prices in a lot of auctions. I also don't know why you guys are getting all pissy about this. It didn't waste anyone's time, I said in the OP that there was a reserve price before the whole auction started, and we all know damn well Steve Smith is worth more than the 150th pick of the draft, whether you guys admit it or not.
Then you announce your reserve price...as the least you would take for him...and just like any other auction, as people bid, the higher the value for him goes. If you dont want an auction trade...then you simply should have make a thread saying. "I will trade Steve Smith for ____"
I don't think you understand it. Again...why announce my reserve price when I could potentially get more in return than my reserve price? Think about it this way....Say, you would trade OJ Atogwe for a 2nd round pick as the minimum offer. But, the Bills offer you the number 3 pick of the draft (or wherever they are drafting). Are you going to say, "Nah, I just want a 2nd round pick, since that's my minimum I'd take for him."? Btw, my reserve price was 140 points on the ESPN draft pick value chart. Meaning I would trade him for a 3rd round pick (#88) or better. (Or, equal value to 140 points on the chart)
At that salary hes really not worth much more. Its not a question of "getting pissy" at you per se, I hate the auction format of this league to begin with. In an auction you announce the minimum required which is the same announcing your reserve. People can still bid upwards from there. No one is telling you or anyone else not to hold auctions.
Well one, I wouldnt conduct an auction trade...two, I would set let everyone know Im looking for a 1st round pick for OJ, and if no one offers a 1st, I would then announce Im looking for a 2nd round pick for him. I dont think you understand the concept of an auction...obviously there isnt much of a market for him. If you wanted atleast a 4th rounder for him. you should of set your reserve at 4, and if there was a market for him, in an auction setting, a bid for him would rise above the value of a 4th...and so on and so on..
I understand auctions, since I flip websites. Again, I bring up the point again...I could potentially get more value than I would normally have if I don't announce the reserve price. It's evident that noone was going to bid higher than the 150th pick of the draft in this auction, because noone did. So, if I announce the reserve is set to a 3rd round pick (#88), then what good does that do? It just makes no sense. Hypothetically speaking...Say the Chargers (idk) valued Smith a ton. And say they wanted to outbid Boik, so they placed a 2nd rounder as their bid. If I had announced my reserve price, then they obviously wouldn't have placed a 2nd round bid on him, because they could have gotten him cheaper...so they would have bid their 3rd round instead. Again, just hypothetically speaking. If I don't announce the reserve, then I could get better value than if I do announce it. Like I said, I'm fine with keeping Smith if I don't get good enough value for him, but I've had better offers than a 5th round pick so far. I can assure you, if I do end up trading Smith, it will be for good value. If I don't, then oh well...I still keep a great receiver and pay him a little more.
I motion to have auctions banned from the the GM League from here on out.....stupid and lazy IMO, anyway. Commish...?
