I am so far out of the basketball loop, so I will defer to others, but would this kill the 2010 plan for the Heat?
-
enless stoudimire is part of those plans, and will help let wade know they are building a winner. -
Miami likes big guys that defend. He is not a good defender. IMO it makes no sense to have him and beas who both lack in the defense department.

MikeHoncho, SICK and Big E like this.

It would setup the Heat in a better position for the 2010 offseason.Samphin likes this. -
I think if Miami does this, then basically Beasley goes via sign-and-trade for another big target next summer. Probably a three or a point. -
HOLD UP!!!!!
Wouldn't Miami be able to sign a player to the max, then re-sign Wade and Amare to the max as well due to bird rights?
I think that works if renounced and the outside target is signed FIRST.
But are bird rights killed by renouncing a free agent?
I know for a fact that Micky Arison would commit to the luxury tax for three superstars. That is fact. -
He certainly will.
Might be the same or a bit less base salary for next season, but he cashes in long term without risking injury (which for him, that's why I'd call this decision a lock -- he's injury prone and his agent knows this as much as we do). He's going to get the max from someone so there's no risk. -
I genuinely believe that Phoenix fears Amare opting in, so that's why they'd settle for an expiring... whether it's Pat Riley who is the cause for this belief or not, lol, I get that type of signal. I mean, why else would they be so forceful in trying to get him out of there? Only a half of season left to play, and likely what you get doesn't amount to what Amare can give you.

Plus -- a lot of changes will be made to the cap after this summer, so that's another reason why pretty much every player in their prime or entering will opt out if possible. The time is now to cash in.
I think that along with the major injury history, Amare has too much to risk by opting in and taking the $17 million with an uncertain future ahead. -
AFAIK, hi injury issue was a knee that required micro fracture surgery, that was two years ago, hasn't he been healthy since then>? -
running the numbers......
The heat would hurt themselves in the 2010 bonanza (I mean hurt themselevs in the sense of adding a 3rd "star" to the MAX + Wade duo) if they DO NOT Trade James Jones.
James Jones MUST go in any Amare trade and the Heat must not add ANY 2011 salary, or they screw themselves. -

If the Heat are trading Jermaine, they would most likely be trading in the 2010 plan as well and going with Amare. Adding salary for next year would probably not matter
We would try to make a follow up trade using Q-Rich and their other expirings to improve the roster now. Target guys like C. Butler, Iguodala, Devin Harris, Hinrich, etc who are rumored to be on the block for expirings. Something like Q, Chalmers, 1st round pick for Caron?
Next summer, they would re-sign Wade and Amare, maintain Bird rights for Haslem, Wright, etc. Use the MLE/LLE to improve the roster, and let's not forget we also have a TPE for ~$4M to use before the deadline if we cash in our chips now (so long as Arison is willin to pay tax) -
This is case of taking a guaranteed prize that is avaliable to you or holding out for the mystery box that could contain the gift of a lifetime....or nothing.
I'm curious as to what Riley's thinking is. If you make the trade for Amare you can immediately make use of allt hose expiring contracts and improve the team rapidly. Maybe not to "dynasty" levels but a core of Wade, amare, Caron and hinrich would be an absolutel contender for years to come
Or do you roll the dice on the dream, knowing that if you come up snake eyes the party is over? It's a tough call, unless he knows something he's not suppose to know. -
As long as Beasley is on the roster 2010 is always alive via sign and trade.
