Seems like a great program. Unfortunately it will be useless to me by the time I rack up my 10 years in public service and make the 120 payments to be eligible.

Something I was already aware of, just doing my 120 months. 9 down, 111 to go. One question I have is does "time served" count? Example: I got my BS and worked for 2 years before starting my MA. My MA took 3 years to complete. So if that can be included, I've done 69 (go ahead Nabo insert your joke here) months and have less. I'll have to call....
Edit: those 3 years were deferrment years, so I have less "time served" then I thought :cry: -
This is a great program. I applied to it successfully four times in the 90's.

that link says you have to start working off your 120 payments after 2007, i dunno if there is a different clause for back work.

From what I have read, there are State as well as this federal program. With the federal, your time starts when you move your student laons to Direct loans, the federal government loan system so they can track it.femalefinfan likes this.

My loan forgiveness was from the state of Florida, but they sound similar. I chose to take a teaching position in a critical shortage area for three years. (I stayed ;)) The paperwork seems overwhelming, but I encourage those applicable to take the time. They actually send the money to the lending service.
