Crap like this is why Wicca is looked down upon and even laughed at by most of society. Guess the "ritual" didn't help extend her lucky streak! What a got damn idiot... http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/25803777/?GT1=43001
All Pagans are not Wiccans, Paganism is more of an umbrella term for many religions. Wicca is just one of those Pagan religions, such as Baptist is to Christianity.
Let's keep in mind that we have Wiccan members here and I for one do not appreciate disrespecting a religion based on the action of one of its members. This was an accident and not because of the ritual itself.
Before everybody wants to jump on me, I'm saying that most people out there in our country (christians, mostly) think of wicca as a joke, and this doesn't help things. I am niether a christian or someone who cares one way or the other about ANY religion. In my experience, people who are wiccans are looked down upon and even laughed at by a good % of who don't believe in wicca.
I don't see anything in that story that justifies "idiot status". Just an accident. Now the comment on the irony of this happening to give thanks for a "lucky streak" IS a valid and humorous observation to make. Damn humorous actually. As for Wicca being looked down upon. I don't think it really is these days. I would say on a list of "religions" I'd have them pretty high on mine for respect level. Above MANY others I could mention that do real damage with their teachings and pompous beliefs.
I got news for you bro. MOST religions look down upon ANYONE who simply dosen't follow their mantra. Everyone thinks they are the chosen ones and everyone else is chopped liver.
I have a good friend that is Wiccan and I must say, he is extremely intelligent. don't judge all by what one stupid person does. heck, we all do dumb things once awhile.
I don't even think it was dumb. It was just an accident. It's not like she was doing something silly like swallow a sword, she was just thrusting it into the ground and her aim veered. A little carelessness maybe.
I'm not Wiccan, but that doesn't sound all bad. Perhaps practicing Wicca should be a pre-requisite for appointment to the EPA (rather than being a oil executive). Seriously, any religion with swords is awesome. Ok super seriously, stabbing oneself in the foot while celebrating a streak of good luck is ironic and hilarious. But you can't use an accident as evidence that a religion or its followers are idiotic and somehow beneath the rest of us. Bad form bro. I know you know better.
I have to disagree with that... In my experience those who are laughing at any religion they don't understand or subsrcibe to, are much less intelligent than the woman in the story. I would call those who are "laughing at Wicca" the stupid ones.
have to disagree with that. i laugh at a lot of religious happenings and am fully aware of what a lot of these religions stand for and their history. In addition to being raised in a specific faith i also have taken several theology classes. I don't subscribe to any religion but love to study it. as far as laughing at it.... just depends on what actually happened and the context.
