Miami was missing a defensive leader last year. I think we now have one.

“It’s very disrespectful for a team to ever run the ball very heavily on you,” he said. “This is a passing league, so for anybody to really run the ball heavily on you, that’s really embarrassing.”

We gave up over twice as much on the ground as the lions...

What a pathetic bunch... Hear that your embarrassing and disrespectful lol.... Good, I'm glad someone called their asses out... And I'm glad Starks and odrick are off this team, yeah I said it... Their asses tanked

I agree Odrick and Starks really faded down the stretch, but so did Coyle. Particularly in the first Jets game, the fact we consistently played 7 in the box against a team geared to pound the rock, was really poor game planning and in game adjustments imo. The whole coaching staff really needs to step it up this year as well.

Heading into free agency when we were discussing the DT's I said we need to blow it up, and Tannenbaum sure did...Odrick and Starks out, Suh, Jordan Phillips and CJ Mosley in.

Yet, when we played them the "wrong" way they only scored 13 points and Geno had a 36 passer rating. And when we played them the way you're supposed to play a running team they scored 37 points and Geno had the only perfect passer rating in the NFL last season. We were the team that ran for close to 200 yards that game and we got killed.

And even in the Denver game we came closer to beating them in their house than any other team, we just needed a good drive at the end instead of an interception.

Say it again for all the arm chair coaches out there lol. Why didn't Coyle load the box @ NY? Heeeellllooo. Anyone remember who was playing CB that week? Or who replaced Jamar Taylor vs Denver a week earlier? No disrespect to anyone but I shudder reading some of these posts. Guys patting themselves on the back, celebrating how divorced from reality they are.

Cmon man. If Coyle loaded up to stop the run and Peyton threw for 400 yards and 4 TDs the same fans would be killing him for not playing pass vs one of the all time great QBs. Bottom line, it's win or get second guessed, I get that. But some of this second guessing it's completely ridiculous.

Totally disregarding the fact that 36 SHOULD be enough to win pretty much ANY game in the NFL...and that's particularly acceptable when it's against the #3 Defense in the league...but lets hang it on RT...wtf was he thinking letting Denver run all over the place like there was no D on the field?!

"We just needed a good drive at the end"...last time Miami had the ball, RT had a passing TD to Landry (84 yd drive in 1:39)...but don't let that fact get in the way of a good story.

We didn't need to keep them from scoring 39 points, 'cuz that's a good defensive showing!

I'm not hanging anything on RT or the offense. They played well but not well enough to win, simple as that. It happens. What I'm saying is that it's kinda silly for people to say Coyle should have done more to stop the run vs one of the best passing attacks of all time, especially w a patchwork secondary.

Ireland was so obsessed with pass rushing. As a consequence, our D tackles were simply too light in the pants. Trusnik didn't exactly inspire confidence, either.

Paul Soliai was the primary run defender, he was let go bc he didn't fit the system not bc Ireland didn't want him. Imo run defense was the one constant on defense during the time Ireland/Parcella had control of the roster. Philbin's philosophy is more about stopping the pass and passing efficiently. I welcome the change bc it's the right way to go but I'd stop short of blaming Irish for any drop off w respect to run defense.

True dat, but I remember him stating that Ellerbe and Wheeler were acquired specifically for their pass rushing potential. I think he used some obscure stats based on how long it took to get to the qb. Ireland didn't even draft Soliai, plus those were crawl before you walk days when we sold out on the run. I'm just saying he stocked the cupboard with diet coke instead of mug root beer.

After the Jags game I thought it was hilarious to read that a lot of Dolphin fans felt like we were badly out-coached by Gus Bradly, a game we employed pretty much the same defensive game plan as we went with vs the Jets. Now, had Bradly decided to keep running it on every single down we might have lost that game, at the very least he would have forced us to adjust. But he didn't, he wanted his QB to get a little play and ordered him to go right at the teeth of our defense. And in pretty much an instant the game was over. I don't blame Bradly, his top priority should be to get his QB prepared for the next few seasons, but how in the fudge is that him outcoaching us!?!

I credit Rex for not blinking and taking what we were giving as long as we were giving but what that game proves is even when the plan doesn't go as hoped we won't be out of it before we have a chance to adjust.

Its not like the plan is to let them run all over the yard on us. The hope is we can stop the run with our front seven. The hope is while we're doing that our own offense is giving us a nice lead and our own offense forces their offense to abort the ground and pound game before we have to adjust. Against the Jets we couldn't stop them with seven and our offense was putrid, it couldn't have gone any worse for us, but we were still in the game. It came down to the wire and it wasn't pretty but the plan worked.

For me I hope we just keep doing what we've always been doing, and hopefully with Suh and a few other pieces our front 7 will be able to shut down every run game week after week.

I want the good QBs handing the ball off as much as possible and the bad QBs throwing into coverage as much as possible. There are no guarantees but I think this gives us the best chance to win at both ends of the QB spectrum.

This is Suh to a tee...

He allows you to stop the run while playing the pass, he is the most valuable front 7 player from a TEAM standpoint in football.
