IMO, it seems like they are going with the bend but don't break approach. Give it underneath and don't allow balls over the top. They know Romo is a gunslinger, he's going to get impatient eventually and he's going to force it deep. When he does, they want to be ready for it .
Imho alot of that was personnel, the bucs just were not that talented on defense no matter what system they were running, even the tampa two. Denver...Bates was there a year maybe? and they were using guys like Sam Adams and that Jest bust Robinson at DT.
The thing of it is, that is not getting the ball into the hands of your playmakers, sure they can catch passes but they are isolated in the damage they can do with them. It's hard to take a chain moving player and turn them into a big play weapon so the Vikes don't mind Witten handling the ball. BTW, if the Vikes hold Dallas to some low point total, like 10 pts, that will really burnish Frazier's resume and head coaching prospects imho.
That's fine. Bulk Mathis up to 275 and let him play SOLB. He's not an awful player against the run, he's not as bad as Freeney is. How did you end up talking about ILB's? What do they have to do with pass rushers? When do you see a 4-3 MIKE having 8 sacks?
the Giants defense in '86 was one of the all time great defenses. the system needs players to really work. then again thats true for evey system
Yeah thats what I'm refering to is the personnel and IMO the best 4-3 units always had two great big guys in the middle. Bowens and Gardener, Stroud and Henderson, Williams guys we are watching now. The 3-4 is meant to be more deceptive to the quarterback because they don't know who is rushing and who is dropping into coverage.
But would they head upfield as much as OLB's as the do as DE's? <sigh> Because we were discussing trading a 4-3 DT for a ILB in the 3-4 and which one offered the greater passrushing potential...recall that is the genesis of this discussion?
Freeney, yes. Mathis, pretty often. I'm still not following you. I never discussed that, you did. That doesn't make any sense to me.
very true. but you need better protection to go with bigger plays. romo is running around too much back there and thats the ol fault. agree on frazier
If we're trading a 4-3 DT for a 3-4 ILB then we couldn't possibly be trading 4-3 DEs for 3-4OLBs like you have been trying to argue. You can't have it both ways. You're only moving one player off the LOS, not 3.
I'm still trying to figure out how we got to ILB's. I'm not trying to be a pain in the *** to you Padre, you're just not making any sense to me.
here come the cowboys. apparently they listened to you padre and adjusted. the running game is groovin
What do ya mean especially in miami? The No named defense played a 3-4. The top 3 defenses this year play a 3-4 More teams each year switch over to some form of 3-4 (there is a reason for that) Sorry man just tired of hearing the constant slam on the 3-4. Both defenses have their pro's and cons and both of them require the right personal to carry out. Here is a good article on it please take the time to read through it.
ithink padre is saying that in the 3-4 scheme you are substituting a DT for an ILB. He feels that DT is the better player to have
Nick Folk is somewhere laughing his *** off right now. Second excellent drive that has amounted to zero points for Dallas.
What made the Cowboys pick Suisham? He missed a 23 yarder in the Redskins loss to the Saints. He may be better than Folk, but he still sucks.
Darn multi quote function !!! A DT offers better passrush potential than a ILB does in base defense Alen. Which is what we were discussing at the start of all of this, ahh...I remember it like it was ..40 minutes ago: "that 4-3 defense is sure getting a ton pressure on Romo" And the rest...is history...
In a 3-4, you can blitz an extra man and you have four guys after the quarterback again. That leaves three in coverage, just like the 4-3. Still not much different schemes IMO.
The 4-3 defense has been in 7 of 9 super bowls in the 2000's, there is a reason for that, it works and is easier to find players for... A 4-3 team will win the SB this year as well, Vikes and Saints=4-3 Colts 4-3, and imho the Colts are the AFC Champs this year.
Chargers have the Colts number for some reason. Kind of like how New England used to have the Colts number. Will be interesting to see if the Colts can finally beat San Diego in the playoffs
