The team that wins this years super bowl will win it because they are the better team. Not just the better defense. If it was just the better defense then god help us because that would mean the Jets would win the SB with their 3-4.

It is not a better defense if it does not win the SB...that is the goal isn't it?

At least making it to that game.

    Come on Cowboys!

These playoffs have not been good with the exception of the Packers-Cardinals game. Hopefully Dallas can make a comeback.

But a 3-4 team has won six Super Bowls since 2001.

Not sure I like the elimination of the force out rule. The defense basically gets an extra defender.

To me it seems like the teams that are supposed to win, will win, meaning the ones with no flaws are spanking the less than perfect team across from them.

Come on Padre lets get real here. Winning the Sb is a team effort. If it was simply the best D or the Best O then we would have had several during the Marino era. This is a team game.

Or possibly because twice as many teams use the 4-3, so the odds of a 4-3 team being in the SB are significantly higher.

By the way the 3-4 has been in 7 of the last 9 super bowls too.

I been waiting all year to see a defender carry a receiver out of bounds like 10 yards or so not allowing the receiver to get his feet down :tongue2:

We ran the 3-4 for most of the Marino era.

    Recall the 48-45 game?

That was the superior 3-4, and every year it was "the defense didn't work because Bob Baumhower was injured, next year it will work great!!!"

Err, no it didn't..switched back to the 3-4 in 07...recall how that went?

I've heard that crap for decades and Sparano may run it, that is his call to make.

Its funny the trends seem to go back and forth. when more teams run a 4-3 its much easier to get 3-4 people. when more teams run a 3-4 it then becomes easier to get 4-3 people. so depending on the year the original quote can go either way. Myself I would like to think the FO has a plan and that they are going to stick with it and not switch it mid stream.

Also to note 3-4 teams will also employ hybrid versions of the 4-3 depending on down and distance.

Whichever veteran Qb is playing the best that game, their team will win.

We ran a 3-4 for the Shula Era. It still doesn't dismiss the point I was making. It's a team game and the better team normally wins the SB. Not just the Best defense.

Me too. I want to see the jests totally obliterated and humiliated. No team or coach deserves it more.

Also I am sorry for derailing this thread. Padre ya should just create a 3-4 vs 4-3 thread. It would make for some good debate I'm sure =)

No it wouldn't because the 3-4 is obviously inferior, and costs too much, and takes too many resources.

No, Arnsparger ran the 4-3 and used a Hybrid DE/LB, he was one of the first to run crude zone blitzes, and when we were winning SB's it was the 4-3 baby.

And that is my last digression, suffice it to say I prefer a 4-3 where the DE's "can" also play OLB, but base is 4-3.

    Nice.

Romo's longest play to witten...23 yds.

Funny how the ravens and cowboys both sort of self destructed, the ravens more with drops, cowpokes with missed FG's and bonhead plays.

In his 3 previous playoff games he only was responsible for 1 turnover.

This is obviously a bad game, but I don't think there is a trend of him turning the ball over in the playoffs when he didn't do it at all in half his games.

do you like the Spagnulo schemes he ran in New York and the Jimmy Johnson ones in Philly or do you prefer the Jim Bates type?

It kills me to see the Marlins who can barely put a couple thousand in the stands and who have had baseballs lowest payroll get rewarded with a new stadium while the Dolphins get shunned. :tantrum::tantrum:

Right on two of three, it does cost to much and eats draft picks.

But if you are willing to wait three years for the defense to be perfected, then by all means, it is perfect.

Cripes Romo just got crushed by Kennedy.

I can't put all the blame on Romo. The Vikings line is dominating the Cowboys line.

3/3 so far this weekend (6/7 overall -- ARZ/GB the only entertaining) and I have a feeling the next one will be just as bad.

Hopefully IND / SD & NO / MIN will be worth the suffering of having to watch this garbage.

FWIW I prefer the 4-3 when you have a Duhe or Mecklenberg type who can play up or down and cover as well as rush the passer.

Like the year JT was in the "Tiger" position, to me ti is the best of both worlds, big bodied DT's to take away the inside run and formation flexibility.

Back to the game though, MN is just sucking the life out of the cowpokes, there 4 man line is beating Dallas's oline and no one is making plays for the cowpokies.
