I saw it Saturday and was terribly disappointed. Seemed like it tread very familiar ground without bringing anything new or compelling to the table. And yet the whole world seems to love it. What did I miss?
I never saw it, but my friends who did basically told me to wait. They said it was fine, but nothing special and that it was a movie we've all seen made before.
Spoiler is it about spiders like i guessed when the teaser was huge on the internet? if so, then pass for me.
It's a Spielberg 80's throwback which it was pretty much advertised as from the beginning. Considering there hasn't been much of that style in a long time I enjoyed it.
Yeah it was interesting to see that throwback to the early 80's, a la Jaws and ET. Both of those movies were represented in aspects of Super 8. The cop father trying to keep things under control. The obvious ET references. I think if you were expecting a story to blow you away, you'd be disappointed. If you want action, with some good scares along the way, and a well made move from an editorial / sound / cinematgraphy standpoint, I think you'd be happy.
