If the contract isn’t a problem then what’s the problem? Why aren’t teams in a bidding war over Tannehill?
Truth is not that many teams are willing to give up draft picks AND pay him what he is due with the current contract. I think teams are wary of his recent injury history and don’t want to risk bringing him in at that price, even if it is in the bottom half of the league.
Well just have to wait and see though, maybe Washington sends us a low round pick for him.
I guess we’ll finally see what the rest of the league thinks RT’s value is, it was a hotly debated topic on here a while back.
Unlucky 13subscriberI just see the problem as that the league is a game of musical chairs for QBs, and there aren't many seats left open at the moment. Bad timing for the Fins to try and make a trade.

Seriously, aside from the Redskins, there are 0 places where THill is a clear upgrade to a developed QB. None. You could argue a couple of spots, but at best you are looking at lateral moves. Sub THill for Eli? Why? Sub THill for Winston? Bleh. Sub THill for Carr? Meh.
Even though his cap hit isn't as bad as many, the fact that it is combined with a not very good player to start with makes it unpalatable. Teams just aren't lining up to pay a mediocre QB that kind of money and give away any kind of decent draft pick.
His best chance to do something is to get cut, sign for a backup's contract and play behind someone who has an injury history.

It’s a “what have you done for me lately” league.
Past two seasons Tannehill missed 21 games and in the 11 games he did play he went 5-6 with a 64.2% comp, 7.2 Ypa, 92.7 Qb rating.
Most teams are going to look at that, then look at his contract and say “no thanks, I’ll stick with what I have or take a gamble in the draft.”
Deus ex dolphinforum_veteranPatience. Miami does not need the cap space just yet, given all the other vets being cut. The handful of teams that would have interest in Tanny might hope Miami cuts him right away, but they can easily hold him till June if need be and then cut him.
All that time is lost for a new team to get him up to speed, plus they can't count on him actually signing with them or at what cost. Making a trade for a 2020 third rounder (valued as a fourth rounder this year) and you get your QB issue settled early and with plenty of time for the offense to gel.
Tanny could help things along by agreeing to restructure his contract, like taking a $10 million signing bonus and minimal salary. He won't be losing any money compared to being cut, so he might go for it if it gets him to his preferred new team.
I'll say again, Miami just needs to be patient. We don't need the pick to be from this year (it would be nice, but I'd wait a year to get a third rounder versus a fifth this year) and we have the cap space to carry Tanny until June.

I just really hope we don't decide to hold onto him - it's a cord that needs to be severed.

resnorforum_veteranYeah, I don't see this as any sort of referendum on Tannehill. It's simply bad business to give up anything for a player that will be cut, regardless of whether or not the player should or shouldn't be cut.

I agree. If we have no plans for T, then if someone would trade for him and we could get a 6th or 7th, I think we should take it. I guess we'll see.
FinatikmoderatorIf his salary isn't such a big deal at 21st then why not draft a QB and play Tanny this year and pay him. Then cut him next year with no dead money. Or trade him in the middle of the year if someone has an injury and the draftee can step in.
Lots of people will tell you what they think about you and what you shouldn't and should do. Not everyone's thoughts are worth consideration. Don't take criticism from anyone who you wouldn't also go to for advice.

Yeah I think the real "referendum" on Tannehill (from non Dolphins teams) will occur after we cut him, assuming we don't get lucky and trade him before that happens. And when that happens, I think we'll see confirmation teams don't value him that highly.
Something else worth noting: we were told from well over a year ago and also during the early part of the 2018 season by those that had access to "inside" info that there's almost no way Tannehill isn't the starting QB of the Dolphins in 2019 and that people suggesting otherwise just don't know what they're talking about. Just saying.. next time we hear that kind of certainty of opinion, remember Tannehill.
