Did anybody think that Tannehill was going to be worse than a quarterback that has been playing horrible since literally the game after signing his extension and a QB so horrible that announcers have to dig into the ground BELOW the bottom of the barrel to come up with excuses for his play?

I mean, in all honesty, the only thing Tannehill had to do was outplay Henne, who was the incumbent 2nd Best QB of the AFC East. True Story.

I'd prefer his standard to be Luck, RG, and Wilson..

He better work his *** off this summer, I mean advanced training techniques..

improving his overall quickness, strength and balance is critical in this particular players development..

I say that because if he can get himself into better position thru quickness, then that innate accuracy he has will take over, and that accuracy, along with his size, heart, and running ability, gives me hope for his ceiling relative to those three guys.

I'll also say again that Wilson hasn't impressed me much. Their entire offense is run-run-run-run then play action and throw the ball 50 yards down the field. If that isnt open, dump it off and get 5 yards. I don't see Wilson making NFL reads or throws. Not to say he isn't good....he is. I just don't think he's as good as some are making it seem.

Keep in mind Brady won't play forever, but you see Manning and he is coming off of a serious neck injury AND they have the immortal Ryan Mallet waiting to step into a very powerful offense when he does step down.

Only the Bills and Jest are floundering at the Qb position in the near future.

If your saying better weapons will bring Tannehills game up to the level of those three I would disagree vehemently, it will help, but those guys are not coming back to him, he needs to get his overall speed and quickness,in every part of qb'ing, faster..

The training of his body will get him to become a better Qb, faster then any other remedy..

 

hold on fellas if the jets and Bills get stud qb 's next year Tanny will end up dead last in the east . reason is the afc east according to espn will rankthe dolphins last in almost anything that those clowns dream up and that is the way it works in the afc east .


miami better get Tannehill some weapons or his career will follow the same path as Henne. or worse , John Beck .

I am starting to like Tannehill but it wont change the perception of the Miami dolphins because we are the most disliked team in the AFC EAST.

 

While I see a lot of school yard in Wilson's game, I think it's unfair to say he doesn't make reads or make good decisions. I would prefer to have RT though b/c I think he's less limited and has a higher ceiling, but I like Wilson a lot. In fact, I would say it's arguable that RT has the highest upside among Luck, RG3 and Wilson. All three are more polished/more experienced, but in terms of raw talent, I don't know. Luck's experience and better receiving/TE corp has helped him produce some clutch wins, but he has also been more erratic in terms of accuracy. RG3 is the most athletic and a very good passer, but I don't see his frame being as stout as the others. And he has shown a tendency to take to many hits. I wouldn't be surprised if he ends up missing games annually with assorted injuries. I think Wilson has to be moved around more often b/c of his height. I wonder how good he would have been without such an effective running game. Other than polish/experience, I don't see any inherent limitations in RT. I'm not saying he's hands down the best prospect of those four. I just see all four of those as phenomenal, equal but different prospects. IMO the argument could be made for any of them as the best prospect going forward.

Much respect for your opinion, I disagree with it at this time, but it gives me hope because of how good I think you are at evaluation..and just the idea that he could be as good as those guys is exciting...You gotta understand how much i loved all three, Luck, RG, and Wilson, Had them 1 2 3..Would of released Peyton for Luck..would of moved up for RG, and would of taken Russell before Tannehill, so while I'm a bit disappointed that we didnt get either RG or Wilson, analysis like this gives me some solid hope.

I do think that in the arm talent dept, accuracy, velocity, touch, trajectory, I think that his ceiling is the highest there.

What a sweet drop in the bucket to Bush for the TD last week. Tannehill is way more talented than what I thought from his college youtubes. Absolutely gives us a shot in any game...

 

You didn't ask me, but I think a good QB gets better with better players. But he's still good without them. I don't believe players can turn a bad QB into a good one. But a good one into a better happens. Aka, Tom Brady in 2006 when his leading receiver was Reche Caldwell. He was still good. He became all world afterwards. And arguably his best year was with no WRs and two Rookie TE's. Yeah they say what would Brady be without Gronk and Hernandez. What would they be without Brady throwing them the ball? Would they have become that good that fast? I don't think so. I think they are good because of him not vice versa (same with Jimmy Graham and Brees).

Better players enhance a QB's performance. They cannot make him better. A QB makes 20-40 throws a game. An excellent WR bails him out maybe once, or twice a game. It's synergy. But in no way does a bad to mediocre QB turns into a star because of the players around him.

 

I'm not sure that's exactly what's he saying, but I certainly don't agree with the premise if it is indeed that blantantly simplistic.

Your post about you running routes for Brady relative to athletes demonstrates that even you think that's exactly what he's saying, and I just can't imagine it so..

 

I think the '94 team proved that an inordinate amount of "talent" doesn't necessarily lead to anything...

You and me don't play in the NFL. You have to trade within the narrow margins that is NFL talent. If Tom Brady played with the Lingerie bowl receivers, or quadriplegics yes he wouldn't compete many passes. But what does that demonstrate? Are we discussing the realities that is the NFL, or supreme hypotheticals? Tom Brady threw for 3,500 yards and 24 TDs with Reche Caldwell as his leading receiver, with 700 yards. His next leading WR was Troy Brown with a whopping 384 yards. His touchdown and INT %'s are very similar to 2005 when he had a better cast. 2007 was out of this world. 2009 with the same cast he threw for similar numbers to his 2006 team, even though he now had Moss and Welker. His accuracy improved which improved his ypa numbers, but his TD and INT % are still very close.

He was very good with a crap set of receivers. He is now all world, and part of that can be attributed to his own development and not that of his receiving cast, as they've dropped Moss, still have welker but he utilizes the personnel he has. Would Woodhead be worth a 6 pack of beer on another team? Dude has more TD's than our entire team minus Reggie Bush (ok not quite but almost).

You give a crappy QB good weapons guaranteed he will still be crappy. Give a good/great QB weapons then you will see them flourish. But they still have to be good in the first place.

 

Adding talent will incrementally increase his stats. But he needs to improve, and it is folly to believe giving him better weapons will make him a better QB. They've been throwing weapons at Joe Flacco and he's been trending along, in that mediocre to good category, 20+10, 3,500 yards area. They have Boldin, Pitta, Torrey Smith who busted out as a rookie but didn't break out further this year. Ray Rice, etc.

But Flacco keeps plugging along. If Tanny follows the same path as Flacco I'd be very satisfied but at the same time, secretly disappointed. Flacco hasn't bust out of the good QB category. And he has all of the weapons at his disposal. Tanny could very much follow the same path, but we're hoping he bursts through to the next level of QB play. Weapons won't let him do that. Study, practice and determination will.

 

It's always dependent on the QB continuing to develop. Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. It also depends on what is around the QB. That's why even a good evaluation of a player does not guarantee what he will be in a few years. People want to point to one thing as some magic predictor or indicator. That doesn't exist. Reality is that it's a confluence of factors. I find these threads that use one stat and attempt to use that as some definitive prognostication to be laughable.

 

The difference between 76.9 & 80.2? 2 more TDs and 2 less INTs.
