How 'bout that Branden Oliver guy going off on the Jets D today. Added: It's annoying to hear everyone calling him another Darren Sproles. So cliche'. Sproles has never been a north-south runner who can run between the tackles, convert short yardage, and carry the load. Oliver is closer to a younger MJD than Sproles.
Ohhh c'mon you d!ckheads, somebody gimme some props for Oliver. Don't deny me my day in the limelight after sticking my neck out to say he's one of the best backs in the draft when everyone else had him as an afterthought. Cruel you guys are, cruel I tell ya.
I spoke pretty harshly about the dudes attitude predraft..there were some serious signs of punkish behavior.
LOL didn't we already cover this with Oliver? I know I brought him up on your behalf a little while ago. We don't keep having to bring this up every time he runs for a few yards do we?
.... but in all seriousness, I appreciate you brining him up previously. It was preseason though so I knew there was a grain of salt accompanying it, and who am I to sell myself short. Besides, I believe there's a rule where you're entitled to two toots for UDFAs, one for preseason and one for regular. I think there's also a third toot for a Pro Bowl appearance.
Funny because I've spoken to someone who has direct, daily interactions with the guy at the facilities and locker room and she says he's the nicest guy ever. An absolute sweetheart, in her words. Should be noted that club incident happened before the draft and he was cleared of wrongdoing. I've seen him be emotional on the field, and start to break down that way. But evidently he's got excellent character otherwise. Cortland Finnegan looks like an emotional punk on the field all the time, but our sources have been adamant that he's become a team leader already, a true veteran leader.
... or he just became a guy with 7 less games of wear on his tires who's now virtually guaranteed to be healthy come May. I don't think he could've done anything more to help his draft stock by playing the rest of the season after averaging 8.2 ypc the first 5 games. I mean, his play should be at its pinnace at the moment, and scouts and decision makers will have 7 less games to pick apart and search for flaws.
This ain't the 2015 prospects thread! This thread has but one purpose and that's Todd bringing up old sh-t so that he can sprain his shoulder patting himself on the back.
Means nothing..he could still be a punk regardless if he's acts sweet in front of a girl.. Idk man, none of us are privy of really studying him in person, all we have is the tape, the games, and the interviews.. The stuff I saw was on the field, just punkish behavior, I don't like that sh&$ if I'm gonna drop my first round pick on you..
Stunningly ignorant thing to say. You just complained that none of us are able to study him in person and all we have is tape. Well I just offered you exactly what you lament not having: the honest opinion of a PR director for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers who has DIRECT and DAILY interactions with the man. You throw it in the garbage because of your sexist attitude. Nice. Way to be a d-ck.
Alright. Unlocking the thread. So long as we keep this thread on topic with respect to it being a channel for Todd to pat himself on the back about Branden Oliver. (in all seriousness we can discuss the progress of 2014 draftees in here if you like)
Speaking of which Todd if you have NFL Game Rewind then go to the Week 10 matchup between the Jaguars and Cowboys, use the play selector to select the play at 1:04 remaining in the 2nd quarter, Blake Bortles complete pass to Allen Robinson for 7 yards... ...and then send your apologies for criticizing Allen Robinson's hands to me, and I'll pass them along to Allen.
Remember when everyone was like, "Louis Nix is a 1st rounder!" and "Beau Allen is a UDFA!" And remember when I did a bunch of tape watch of both guys playing against the same teams and said I don't know how anyone who knows what they're looking at could look at Louis Nix play against Purdue then look at Beau Allen playing against Purdue and say that Louis Nix is the better player? Then Nix went in the 3rd round and Allen went in the 7th round. Well Beau Allen has carved himself a niche as the main nose tackle for the Philadelphia Eagles...and Louis Nix can't even get on the field. Hasn't played a single snap.
Also remember Cornelius Lucas? The guy I kept claiming could probably play at right tackle but then he went undrafted? He was the guy blocking up Cameron Wake on Detroit's final game-winning drive.
And remember how much I fawned over Jonathan Newsome of Ball State, who ended up going in the 5th round? I believe I said he's got the best inside move I've seen in this draft aside from Jadeveon Clowney, who probably has the best inside move I've ever seen. He's played 200+ snaps for the Colts. Last week against the Giants he had 2 sacks and 2 hurries, 5 stops.
I'll begrudgingly accept Robinson's rare hands catch if you do the same with my boy Beckham Jr's great season [609 yards, 5 TD, 14.9 YPC, and 10.0 yards/target in 7 games] and his catch of the ages. Robinson was having a nice season before unfortunate injury but I would like to see more in the intermediate and downfield passing game before I fully come around, as 37 of his 48 catches were on passes of 10 yards and less, and 232 of his 548 yards came during 4th qtr blowouts. From the games I saw [while having Sunday Ticket Game Mix playing each week], it seemed like the majority of his receptions were on simpler routes/easier catches. His body clearly passes the eyeball test, and his athletic talent is undoubtedly 1st round, but he didn't come off the board until the end of round 2 for what I believe is the same reason I dinged him for and thought would prevent him from being a top 50 pick- an apparent set of non natural hands. I never thought Robinson had stone hands, but at the same time I knew his hands, catch radius, and bad-ball ability were nothing like Sammy's, Odell's, Evans', or Landry's, and for me personally, that trio of traits is what I prioritize. Robinson looks like Jordy Nelson.... except for Jordy's hands, and IMO it's Jordy's rare hands, catch radius, and crazy bad-ball ability that make him such a special player. Victor Cruz without his great hands, huge catch radius, and tremendous bad-ball ability would be a JAG IMO. Unless the receiver displays a similar type of hands ability, I'm deterred from wanting to draft him highly since the majority of his catches wont have much to do with highlight reel jump-balls or crazy YAC potential. Robinson might not have displayed stone hands, but he never displayed any special hands ability other than downfield jump balls IMO.
So ummm... how 'bout that Allen Robinson kid? You see that wonderful hands catch he made against Dallas?
Soooo...RG3. Raging dumpster fire, eh? Who'da thunk it, considering how universally hailed he was coming out of Baylor...
Idiot STILL doesn't know what it means to get down or protect his throwing arm/shoulder. I honestly didn't think he'd so stubbornly get in the way of his own development like this.
It is hilarious because I never did like Manziel I still cannot believe that Cleveland drafted him. I guess for some reason they were not sure about Hoyer who is playing pretty good this year..Maybe Washington and Cleveland will swap RG3 & Manziel with each other..lol
