Very succinctly ... things change. A lot happens between November and April -- trades, cuts, players declaring for the draft, etc. JT has to know and understand this.

 

Taylor should have signed the extension then and he didn't so stop whining about it now. His ego is bruised because he didn't feel wanted. Sounds like a familiar story from a few years ago.
The guy was a free agent and he signed with the jets so STFU.

It was classless of the organization to demand that JT cut his long time agent out. And it was classless to not let ZT say goodbye to the fans. Football, business decisions I can understand. Treating people without class is not and it reflects badly on the organization.

 

I still don't get why people don't understand its nothing personal, its a business. I'm starting to question the maturity of this forum.

If Jason really wanted to be here, he would've accepted the offer back in November. He turned that down and now he has to live with it.

 

I don't think it was classless at all. They offered the extension directly to JT, he passed it along to his agent, and then negotiations went from there between the agent and Ireland (which obviously ended up with no extension signed). I really don't see any harm in this at all. I also don't blame JT for passing it along to his agent. It just didn't work out.

And there's still the opportunity for Zach to say goodbye with the 1-day contract/retirement. The door's still open for that unless I'm missing something.

 

KP...you defend the FO like no other here. I'm OK with that, but I think you're wrong here. They need to show some class or Free Agents who aren't chasing money will never sign here. (ie Clark or Rolle).

That's not my understanding of how it went. My understanding was that he was only offered the extension if he cut out his agent.

And with ZT, he asked if he could use the press room to say goodbye and was told "no, you're not a Dolphin anymore, get out". There's no excuse for that. Even if, they do 1-day thing later, that was classless.

 

They told him that they didn't want him now by stating that they didn't want to address it until after the draft. How things go in the draft (who picks whom, who trades whom, etc.) has such a drastic impact on the needs of a team. Obviously the team is looking for a replacement and if the draft didn't address that, then they'd get back with JT. So, basically the message is, "We're looking for someone better and if we can't find that player, then we'll get back with you". Sorry, but every player should be getting that message every single year, and especially an aging player like JT.

When your ego is as big as these guys, there's no room for class.... they haven't shown much respect to this organization, it's history or the fans since they got here. They better get us a SB ring....... or they will never hear the end of it.

I hadn't heard that story regarding Zach. But, until he retires officially, I can understand their footing as he was still a player. You just never know what's going to happen down the road.

You see the difference between Williams and Taylor? Williams was offered the contract, he accepted so end of story. Taylor declines the contract and it months later turns into a mess. It is these antics that pisses this regime off as this whole mess was unnecessary - except Taylor made it that way. What could he have done to avoid it? a) accept the contract in November or b) not accept but go to a team other than an AFC East team or c) refuse to air out his dirty laundry in the media. Maybe there was a reason we haven't won anything with players like Taylor - they don't always buy in to the collective good of the team.

IMO it's still classless to treat a guy like ZT like a pariah for no apparent reason. Regardless of what happens in the future, they shouldn't have treated him in such a manner.

No, it would mean that he didn't want to screw over somebody he had a long relationship with. It's classless to as somebody to do that.

For all of the blubbering, Taylor could have been a Dolphin if he had chosen to he declined the offer and signed elsewhere.

 

Taylor's relationship with Wichard. Basically Parcells said cut him out and I'll sign you. It's classless to demand that. And there is no blubbering. JT stated what happened once and left. I certainly haven't said anything about JT leaving. In fact, I said I understood the football decision. I just said the F.O. handled it in a classless manner.

 

And I happen to think it was perfectly handled, Taylor could have quietly resigned with the Dolphins, he chose not to, now we have the whole drama that tends to surround Jason Taylor.

He chose it, he chose to play with the Jets, there really is nothing else left to say on the matter.

 

Not sure what's debatable about that (other than possibly the source reporting it). It's not stated why the offer was eventually pulled, but that could be due to various reasons such as JT didn't like it and wouldn't sign it, the Dolphins no longer wanted to pursue an extension, etc.

 

He has the right to work if the Jets were the only offer his choice is to work there or not work.

And if the Dolphins were willing to sign him, which you have to assume unless you think Parcells' offer was a lie, then why would the only be willing to do so if he screwed over his agent? That's a classless move.

 

I think it's a pretty big leap to read that into what happened. And actually, I think it's a false leap. They were still willing as I've pointed out (negotiations continued with Ireland and his agent).

I also have a hard time believing that JT would be unemployed for next year had he not signed with the Jest.

 

And they just happen to be the host team for HBO's "Hard Knocks" this year.

Because they gave Taylor a choice, one based on trust, if he trusted Parcell's he would have signed on the spot, if not, send it to the agent, Ricky Williams was wise enough to see the situation for what it was, Taylor did not.

They asked Taylor to trust them until after the draft as strategically it would weaken the Jets draft strategy, he refused, once again, to trust them.

That is the basis for my own indifference that they let Taylor walk, he did not buy in, he should be gone to where ever he felt he could get the best deal.

I have no issue here.There is business and there is personal. Business is not choosing to sign someone. Fine. I have no problems with the FO not signing Taylor. Read any of my posts. I have no problem with JT signing somewhere else. Again, it's a business. If you go through all my posts, I defend both sides, they have the right to make business decisions.

It's the petty personal stuff from the FO i have problems with. It's business, not personal, but telling ZT to pack his shiz and leave like a janitor just fired is personal, not business. I've said from the beginning, Parcells is a borderline scumbag/weasel so I don't even find this behavior surprising.

 

That's my issue with this F.O. And it's the same rep that Parcells has always had. He has a history of getting pissy and petty. That's simply not professional.

 

IMO, the FO had valid reason if they wanted to end-around the agent. I get the impression he's an agitator and has already been disavowed by JT for putting words in his mouth favorably comparing the jest fan enthusiasm to the fins' fans. I also suspect that the meeting between Tony and JT was suddenly canceled as a result of more of the agent's BS, lies, threats, etc., so it wouldn't surprise me if in reality JT has his agent to blame for the predicament he found himself in.

 

They busted their tails and were essentially pissed on by the FO. There is a way to let aging vets go with class adn respect. If they didn't want JT, tell him, thank him for his service, and move on. Instead they try to trick him into signing dirt cheap and then when FA hits ask him to wait around until they exhaust every other option. I won't even get into not letting Zach address the south Florida media on the way out. There's a lot to be said for conducting yourself with class in any walk of life. But at this point I don't know why I waste my energy. The 'butthurt from dancing with the stars' crowd made up their minds a long time ago. This just makes it easier for them.
