I like it. Allen is a proven player. Not the catch reception God we all hope for, but he's probably going to be key in the run block game.
-
This is puzzling. They drafted two TE's last season I hope this doesn't stunt their progress. I don't like it.
-
I get it but let’s not worry about the money let’s focus on the team they are building. GIVE them time to show what they are doing before we go off on them please!! -
I like it, and i think he can still be a threat in the red zone. In new england not so much when you got all those receivers and gronk.

I wish I could ask this guy some questions..
What happened??? Is one I’d like to ask, this guy was a smooth gifted receiver with super soft hands and Saviness coming out of college..
I know he had early injuries but this complete change of game is baffling to me. -
Hopefully signing a great blocking TE will actually help the development of Drake and the running game as well as whatever QB we put back there. Of course there's always the hope that vets will help develop the young TEs behind them, but at least he can help an oline that has plagued us for so long.

the best blocking TE according to PFF only made 2m last year and is a FA so allen overpaid for what he does.
allen was the 63rd ranked TE in PFF not worth 3.5m a season. -

Allen is obviously a strong locker room presence. He clearly has familiarity with the system we plan on running. He also has familiarity with the coaches.
He's being paid 7 mil because he's an OG in the locker room, helping convert the holdouts from the previous regime, and helping establish some familiarity. Guys like this are important during transitions this big.Puka-head, Nappy Roots and Dorfdad like this. -
I cant believe people are complaining about this signing lol

You're saying it's a waste for developmental reasons but moves like this ARE developmental, considering the entire team now has to learn and understand a new system and a new culture. If you do that without any veteran familiarity and leadership you're behind the ball.
A lack of understanding regarding how the league works on a human level is not a valid rationale for not liking a signing. -

Even though most people here hated Gase (I wasn't one of them), there's going to inevitably be a large portion of the current roster that didn't want to see Gase fired. There are going to be guys who are mad that they have to learn a new system, and doing so is especially hard for guys that only know one system.
Guys like Allen are the bridge between the new team leadership and the players. Contrary to what we like to believe, there are MANY voices in an NFL locker room, and some of the most important voices belong to players, not coaches. During a regime change, you absolutely need veteran players familiar with the new coaches in order to create the right culture.Puka-head likes this.
